Nathan Phillips vet status in question

Then there was a time before that where people were openly hostile against them, and those who served. They grew up and found a home of the left. I've even seen it a little bit now, when I was at my last duty station in California, so it's not like there are clean hands on any side for this. I have to admit that at least it's generally not something that happens with the majority of either side, so that's good.

With all due respect, it isn't the left who said they don't like POWs. That was the President, who represents the right, and the right had absolutely no objection to what he said.

There’s a difference between what is thought to be relevant and what is relevant.

Says who? You?

Every thread on this site, based on the original lie had "Vietnam veteran" in the thread title. I bet you weren't saying it's irrelevant, then.

Ok, in real simple terms, perception and reality are not the same. Just because someone thinks/feels a certain way about something does not make it so.

You're only saying it's irrelevant to control the damage done by the faked story and the lies from the Left.

I have no interest in assisting anyone with damage control. I’ve posted enough in this forum to make 3 things clear: I disagree with most of what Trump says/does, I bear no allegiance to any party, and I deal in facts (and informed opinions).

You forgot the 'lie about your position' part and x 3

Several people who went AWOL did so time and again. It wasn't uncommon.

Secondly - if you say so, about his lying. I have seen a lot of people erroneously say that he was a Vietnam vet, when he was actually Vietnam era. That's what I heard Phillips say. Vietnam times vet. But if he said he was actually in country, that would be wrong.

That being said, I love how everybody is quick to lambaste this old man for this, when it has nothing to do with what happened. Take the whole veteran thing out of the equation, and it was still wrong what happened. But then, instead of it happening to a veteran, it happened to an elderly Native American man. Doesn't negate the fact that it still happened, and all this character assassination about Phillips is certainly the end-goal, to get that MAGAt kid out of the spotlight.

They never do. That's part of the problem. There is no "that's enough - that's it" with these people. They just keep excusing him. Everything he does, everything he says - it's OK, no matter how bad it is.

Personally (and I feel bad for this because he didn't do anything) I want the MAGA kid in the spotlight. All the hours of video proving how viciously wronged he was just MIGHT make a difference next time the psychos want to threaten a kid for behaving like a measured adult. I have to hope for the best, but people who post stuff like yours make me worried.

Additionally, the reason Mr. Stolen Valor is in the spotlight is because he begged for it. He went shopping his story around to every media outlet before the first time the video was shared. Nevermind the physical violence threatened against the kid or that the school had to shut down to protect an entire student body. He had lies to tell, dammit! He talked about fearing for his safety. How the beast had to be talked down. How the kid blocked his way and stared him down.

Luckily, he didn't let this campaign of falsehoods interrupt his group from forcing a church to lock down a couple days later. That might have been a real tragedy.

He could say that their daughters are sluts and they'd cheer him for his honesty and ingenuity. It's so disgusting to see how he owns people.

The funniest (and saddest) part of your screed is where you consider the MAGA kid a "measured adult." Yeah. He sure looked like a measured adult.

Or like he did with Ted Cruz. He called his wife ugly and accused his father of having something to do with the JFK assassination. Now Cruz is sniffing his ass just like a dog in heat.

Disgusting.

Cruz looked absolutely pathetic. A weasel of a man.

He's another case in point. No matter what Trump does, the suckers bat their eyes at him and think he's wonderful.

It's because they want something from him. Either that or they are afraid of him.

I don't mean lying about being a vet. I agree he is a vet. He lied about what his position was in the service.

I don't feel that kid did anything wrong, so I guess I'm on that side of the fence on this issue.

Like a new member (bongsaway) said in another thread, that's why they make chocolate and vanilla.

I loved that.

And thanks for debating like a normal person, and not like some of the people here who go nuts, hyperventilate, start flailing their arms and ****. It's nice debating with you. I don't usually agree with much of what you say, but you say it in a way that makes for reasonable debate. :)

The only time I heard the term Recon Ranger was in cadence calls...

Same. And even then, it was mostly said with more than a tinge of satire.

Marines just do not have the same mindset as the Army. No collection of tabs and patches, devotion is to the Corps, not to the unit you happen to be in. Where as the Army has the "Army Song", you also have Branch songs ("Quartermaster March, Air Defense Artillery March, Signal Corps March, etc), unit songs, branch insignia pins, unit crests, unit patches. The Corps neither has nor wants any of that.

A lot of our cadences made fun of the "Army Way", in their obsession over branch and specific units. Yes, we had our own "Unit Song" that we did during Battalion PT and at the end of long ruck marches ("We are, we are Two-Two!", sung to the music of "We Will Rock You"), but it was purely motivational and in no way official.

He served if he never set foot out of the country.

You don't have to go to war to serve.

And none of us have said you do. This was the point I was trying to pound into another here, that her father served, if he went overseas or not. Therefore her statement that he "never served" was bogus.

But this guy made claims that he did, and that he did things he did not do. That is entirely different.

My husband was an MP during Vietnam. Do you know how many soldiers went AWOL during Vietnam?

Lots of them. I guess they are all "scummy soldiers" now.

Do they get a patch for that?

A lot of them do. I knew guys that did, and still continued to serve and got out after 4 years as an E-3 or E-4 and an Honorable Discharge.

This guy was a repeat offender, who was kicked out at the rank of E-1 Private. The same rank a guy enters the military at. Without an Honorable Discharge. Because he did it over and over and over again.

That is what makes him a "Scummy Marine". Repeat pattern of offenses, kicked out at the same rank he entered after 4 years.

Don't get mad that the right wing is now spreading their own fake news, and I am pretty sure Don Shipley's trolling actually broke the law...

https://newsmaven.io/indiancountryt...lips-military-records-p3Gs--zUpUiwJPURPIlzxg/

And how did he break the law? He got the exact same records you, or I, or anybody could get. It's known as the Freedom of Information Act. It is perfectly legal, and done all the time. Why are you saying he broke the law?

https://thisainthell.us/blog/?page_id=39605

Now how about you tell us exactly how he broke the law. What did he do that is illegal?

Back at ya! :)

I believe this is the official response, and Don Shipley most likely broke the law when he published Phillip's DD-214

Ahhh, here we go.

The funny thing is, it is not illegal to show a DD-214. So long as it is a redacted copy which does not show PII, or confidential information. Like Social Security Numbers and other things (which are redacted by the National Archives before they are released).

And here is what I find most funny about your claim. He did not even show his DD-214!

What he showed was a copy of his NA Form 13164, and then the page of his SRB that showed his duty postings. That information is not even on the DD-214. Then he showed his service brief, which showed his date of entry and leaving, his last rank in service, awards given, and the character of his discharge. This is not even an "official military form", it is an outline of his final status. And it is made up purely as part of a FOIA release.

No, he did not break the law. Want the same thing from me, simply provide them my name, approximate birthdate and branch of service and you can get the exact same thing for me. Then you can post it in here, or make a YouTube video and publish it to the world. Nothing illegal about that at all, it is all freely available public information.

This is a DD-214:

This is a NA Form 13164:

Brett-Watson-FOIA-AA.jpg

Notice, this form itself is made up by the National Archives for public release. Yet somehow you think it is illegal to show this?

Then the other page he showed in detail. That by the way is taken directly from his ERB, and looks like this:

William-Gallagher-FOIA-Assignments-1.jpg

BTW, this is also part of the records dump that you get if you request military records from the National Archive.

So please tell us how the law was broken.

Could it be he was a Vietnam ERA veteran and the media blew it all out of proportion?

I would accept that, but for the fact that they have been reporting this for around a decade, and he never once corrected them.

But funny how once his actual records became public all of the reports suddenly got "clarified". One or two articles I could accept, but every article and news report I have seen pretty much all call him a "Vietnam Vet", and apparently he never felt the need to correct them on this.

In fact, here is exactly what Chief Don showed everybody in his video:

nathan-phillips-nathaniel-richard-stanard.jpg

And gee, what does that say at the very top?

Oh my oh me oh my. "INFORMATION RELEASABLE UNDER THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT"! In great big bold capitol letters!

Oh yes, he broke the law by releasing information obtained from the Federal Government for public release.

Which BTW has been a huge contention among those of us who track Stolen Valor for years. We get sick of people parading themselves around as "War Heroes", Navy SEALS, and the like, and people in the media never even bother to fact check them before they publish their stories. When all they have to do as part of their research is to request from the National Archives a copy of their records to see if they are real or not.

And guess what? If they never served, there is even a form they have in that instance:

Clifford-Gregory-FOIA-AA-Navy-1.jpg

The above was for an individual who had pent years claiming to be a SEAL, but was busted when it was shown he had never even served.

Just because no one spat on you doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Are you a Vietnam vet, or a Vietnam era vet?

I'm a Nam era vet, but I just say I'm a veteran so as not to be confused with a Nam combat veteran. I did live off base in Okinawa with a Vietnamese woman, so, saw a little action there.;) But back to the spitting allegations, I have known MANY, Nam combat vets and Nam era vets, including myself. The subject came up a few times, and my buddies said the same thing I did. we've always heard the stories, but never knew anybody it happened to, and neither have they. I've searched archived news stories about returning vets, never found a "cinfirmed spitting". I'm not saying it's absolutely no way it happened, I just think it 's like an urban legend.:peace

That is the little diddy I was talking about too.
We all sang it and I was a squid.

One of by best buddies was a squid. He was a corpsman and played RB on our football team in Okinawa. AKA The rock.

Rotating out of Somalia on emergency leave I teamed up with an Army Major so we could get our collection of lost souls back home. We chatted about all the identifiers on the army uniform. I had to ask... "Do your guys tend to forget which unit they are in?" The major just looked at me and couldn't think of a things to say. He had a great comeback for everything but that.

They are the originals. They did that to those returning from Vietnam. They grew up to become leaders of the left. They still haven't gone completely away. There are still those on the left that hate everyone affiliated with the military. Hell, I've seen lefties cheering for dead Soldiers and Law Enforcement Officers.
