(CNN) Special counsel Robert Mueller has released a January 2017 memo detailing the FBI's interview that month with Michael Flynn -- a moment that led to a high-profile criminal case against the former Trump national security adviser.

In the interview described in the memo, Flynn lied about his contact during the presidential transition in 2016 with then-Russian ambassador to the United States, Sergey Kislyak. At times, Flynn offered the FBI agents more benign descriptions of what he and Kislyak had said about Russian policy.
====================================
Link to memo found at bottom of story.

For a former 3-star general & former head of the Defense Intelligence Agency, Flynn acted like a novice on his first day on the job. i have a feeling that this was deliberate for some hidden reason. He must have known that the FBI has always bugged the Russians' phones, so why throw himself under the bus by lying to the FBI? Unless Flynn is part of a larger, still hidden scheme to defraud the United States.

Do Flynn's almost comic actions make any real sense to you? It's like something out of a mystery novel plot line. And the memo shows how Flynn lied a number of times to the FBI.

George Washington University Law Professor Jonathan Turley weighs in on a federal judge ordering the Mueller team to surrender documents surrounding the questioning of former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

Turley called the case against Flynn a "canned hunt" and investigators effectively "put him in a cage and shot him" by bringing him up on charges of lying during an interview brought about under unorthodox means, according to FOX News.

Interesting coming from a respected law professor.

I wonder if that other FBI Agent will ever be asked to speak about this...under oath, of course. If it happens, I'm sure...like Stzrok, Comey, etc...he won't be able to remember a goddamned thing.

Flynn seems to be a central figure in the Mueller investigation.

It's been pointed out that Flynn didn't give anyone but a ****load of people up. We saw his business partners get indicted today. So that means either A) Mueller just believes everything he says and is hungry with power or B) Mueller has evidence that proves Flynn was doing illegal things forcing him to make the deal.

Mueller has likely information that places Flynn at every single narrative in Trussia collusion from the emails to kidnappings and more. Remember Cohen got three years in jail. Flynn gets none. So that means A) he gave up extremely credible evidence or B) Mueller is a terrible prosecutor who sucks at making deals.

I can see how both of these two narratives at this point in time can be true depending on where your loyalties lie. Fear not though, we still have quite a ways to go for the whole story to be laid out.

Have you seen all the stuff Flynn was directly involved with in the Turkey dealings? His former partner was just indicted. Flynn was just as involved...
So Flynn was lying many times in many ways about Russia, but also was guilty in the Turkey dealings. Trump knew he was under investigation...and compromised by Russia...why did he still put/keep him on as National Security Advisor?

No, Flyn is dirty in many colorful ways...trying to characterize him as the victim here...shame on you.
The only real question is what did he give up...other than his former partner in the Turkey deal...Mueller said info core to the Russia investigation. How good was this making it so the recommended a zero jail sentence...when clearly they could have bitten him with many more charges...obstruction..multiple counts of lying, acting as a foreign agent, his son who helped in some capacity....

Being sure that a guy is dirty is no excuse for injustice, and if the people who run the system are so scared that they will not get the dirty guy that they go around justice then they should take this as their clue that the Justice system is as broken as I claim it is....and fix it.

Let's wait for the report before we get that specific.

It certainly looks like Trump is "Nixon for Dummies", but thus far the proven criminals are only those who plead guilty. The others are waiting to be proven guilty. And him? Well....he's the endgame one way or the other. Let's be better than the defenders.

What injustice? Trump as POTUS?
The incredibly generous plea deal Flynn got?

If you dont know that America is headed South then you are not paying attention, and/or you dont know what matters.

This is what education is for.

An undeserved favors: speaking deliberately vaguely does not convey the mystery and air of hidden authority that it is intended to convey.

There's a whole lot wrong with the justice system, but that mainly comes down to foolish but self-important judges appointed for the political results of their decisions, the fact that juries are made up of ordinary people, the fact that ordinary peopled are generally quite stupid, and the fact that the poorer the defendant the greater the likelihood of impropriety. Unless he's lying out of all ten corners of his ass, Trump can afford several armies of lawyers. He isn't going to get railroaded in front of a jury.

It any rate, police are allowed to lie to suspects. They're allowed to trick them. They have a habit of causing recording equipment to "malfunction" then remembering a completely different version of an interview than the suspect remembers. They do all sorts of things. But that happens to your mundane defendant. Your black person who made "furtive movements" when a cop approached, took out a bag of drugs, and threw it at the cop's feet (if you believe the lies many judges accept).

There are myriad problems with the criminal court system. Trump is not suffering from them.

Flynn is not a mundane guy, yet look at how he was treated....all because of Trump, the guy the system is out to destroy by any means necessary.....which is injustice.

The so-called justice system is squandering much of the last of its credibility on this political mission to take out Trump.

THis is not just wrong, this is rank incompetence and immorality, which the FAILED INTELLIGENTSIA! are legendary for.

Has anyone noticed the sentence in the first paragraph that says.

After being identified the identities of the interviewing agents and the nature of the interview, Flynn provided the following information:.....

Flynn was told he didn't need a lawyer. Clearly he wasn't told he was the target of a perjury trap. The agents already knew the answered because they had the phone conversations with the Russian Ambassador. They were just there to see if Flynn would lie to them. They did not Mirandize Flynn. So they did not identify the nature of the interview. They are lying on the 302 and there are three versions of the 302 and they tried to not give the original 302 to the judge. That is why the judge issued another order today demanding they give him the first 302. I doubt he will take the attempt at hiding the original 302 lightly tomorrow in court. Something stinks. Also Rosenstein would not make the second agent available to congress. If the agents lied on a portion of the 302 can we trust heir truthfulness on any of the 302.

For the Thread:

No glory in James Comey getting away with his abuse of FBI power
BY
JONATHAN TURLEY

“I probably wouldn’t have … gotten away with it.” Those words this week from former FBI Director James Comey could well be chiseled in marble as his epitaph. He was explaining another violation of bureau policy during his tenure days after meeting behind closed doors with House members.

What was shocking was not that Comey violated protocols or policies again but the reaction of the audience to his admission. In describing how he set up a critical meeting with Michael Flynn, former national security adviser to President Trump, the audience was audibly thrilled by his cleverness in keeping Flynn unrepresented by legal counsel and unaware of the true nature of the meeting.
.
.
.
What was Comey’s justification? Because he could. He refers to the “process” of other administrations. That process, however, was still in place and did not change. Moreover, he noted that he thought he could get away with it because this was “early” in the administration. That is not principle. It is opportunism. He was supposed to work through the Justice Department and not simply follow the rules only if he might be caught breaking them.

https://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/police-questioning-miranda-warnings-29930.html

Many people believe that if they are arrested and not "read their rights," they can escape punishment. Not true. But if the police fail to read a suspect his or her*Miranda*rights, the prosecutor can't use for most purposes anything the suspect says as evidence against the suspect at trial.*

And yet, here we are, with Flynn getting no time, his partner and a dozen others in prison or heading in that direction. You sure your silly argument works in the real world and anything gained in Flynn's testimony will be thrown out?

Quick, run tell Flynn's expensive lawyers, with cheap interns, what they didn't learn from their 1st year law school books.

1. Given that this most recently released 302 was dated 2 days AFTER Flynn resigned...

2. Given that 302 was certified 3 WEEKS after the interview...

3. Given that one day prior to the 302 being certified Stzrok and Page were texting about whether McCabe (remember him? the guy who maneuvered Flynn in to the meeting without a lawyer) had approved the wording of the 302...

4. Given that the hand-written notes of the interview...written by Agent Pientka...and the agent himself...have never been seen...

5. Given that the DOJ/FBI, to this date, refuse to allow Pientka to testify before Congress...

Yes...I am wondering exactly that.

I always roll on the floor laughing when somebody says "perjury trap"; that ranks right up there with someone telling the truth being a "rat". Lying to a federal agent is a felony. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

Hmmm...they wouldn't have been able to put him in that cage if it wasn't of his own making--the "cage" in question was that what he lied to the FBI about would have been (and should have been) roundly condemned by American citizens. As for interviewing him under false pretenses, that's something that law enforcement officers do all the time to murderers, arsonists, kidnappers, rapists, and thieves, as well as potential hostile witnesses who did not themselves commit a crime. Hardly anyone complains about it in those circumstances. Why should it be any different here?
