Moscow Skyscraper Talks Continued Through ‘the Day I Won,’ Trump Is Said to Acknowledge

WASHINGTON — President Trump was involved in discussions to build a skyscraper in Moscow throughout the entire 2016 presidential campaign, his personal lawyer said on Sunday, a longer and more significant role for Mr. Trump than he had previously acknowledged.

The comments by his lawyer Rudolph W. Giuliani indicated that Mr. Trump’s efforts to complete a business deal in Russia waned only after Americans cast ballots in the presidential election.

The new timetable means that Mr. Trump was seeking a deal at the time he was calling for an end to economic sanctions against Russia imposed by the Obama administration. He was seeking a deal when he gave interviews questioning the legitimacy of NATO, a favorite talking point of President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia. And he was seeking a deal when, in July 2016, he called on Russia to release hacked Democratic emails that Mr. Putin’s government was rumored at the time to have stolen.

If you don't wish to, or can't, read the Times article -- Discussions on Trump Tower in Moscow were ‘active’ throughout 2016 election

Oh my....You mean that a businessman that builds hotels and resorts internationally was trying to build a hotel internationally until he won the Presidency? The horror!

Using the prospect of having the office of the Presidency for the sole purpose to further one’s own financial ambitions used to be considered a bad thing in this country.

So, if someone is running for President of the United States they are supposed to end all business they are doing before they win said office? That seems stupid....

There is no truth from Trump and his administration, all distortions and misleading.

Trump ask Russia if they found Hillary's deleted emails to release them, not the DNC's.

These NYT's opinion writers can't seem to get their facts right. Reckon what else they got wrong or failed omitted ??

Trump was willing to expose himself to Russian counterintelligence [kompromat] for a $300 million profit.

He knew this duplicity wouldn't play well with America writ large, so Team Trump tried to hide this transactional facet of The Donald.

Similar with the harlots and Trumps adultery, these ugly things had to be hidden from Americans before election day.

Yes. They are wanting to become the President of the United States. The leader of the Free World. The most powerful person on the planet.

Using the pursuit of that position to solely pursue one’s own business interests used to be considered a bad thing.

Maybe one day it will be that again. Hopefully soon.

Trump wasn't negotiating to "BUILD" a hotel. He was negotiating "NAME" rights to call it a Trump hotel. Nuance, don't ya' know?

The horror is him lying about it to the American people.

But then, you already knew that when you wrote your post.

So, what you are saying, is that if anyone considers even running for president, they have to give up their current business to do so...And if they don't win, what then?

FACT: During his entire presidential campaign, Trump was actively pursuing building a tower in Moscow while publicly claiming he had absolutely no business in Russia.

And the Russians knew it.

Ok...that's part of what he does...is that illegal?

What? You mean a politician said something that wasn't 100% true to you? Shocking!

Was it illegal for his company to pursue building a hotel in Moscow?

I would say that by the time someone isnthe presumptive nominee with a good chance of becoming the President, that yes, ceasing business associations... especially with foreign governments and foreign banks under sanction of the government you are wanting to lead is the very least of what we should expect from a Presidential candidate. No one is forced to seek the office of the President. It is their choice to do so.

If it isn’t a bad thing... why did they try to hide it?

It might be illegal to negotiate with banks that were under US sanctions.

What proof do you have that he even knew about where in this process his company actually was? Giuliani laid it out pretty good yesterday on two different liberal Sunday shows...There was NO deal. All they had was some flimsy letter of intention to try and do business by building a hotel in Moscow...That is NOT a deal, or doing business in any form...

And even if they had finalized plans to start building, how is that illegal? And from what I understand is that Cohen was in charge of this attempt to do the hotel in Moscow...You'd have to show that when he made that statement he actually had some involvement beyond what has been reported...

So, what you are saying, is that if anyone considers even running for president, they have to give up their current business to do so...And if they don't win, what then?

No one said this. Many American presidents have had business interests.

Your problem (and Trumps problem) is having his willingness to be security-compromised for a profit revealed.

There is no excuse for that, and no parallel of secretly cavorting with the enemy in American history.

It's pretty clear that the Buzzfeed story was true and that's precisely why they're sticking by their story and not retracting it. Perhaps it wasn't 'accurate' as the FBI states, but nevertheless true. It connects the dots between the FBI investigating Paul Manafort and the basis for opening a counterintelligence investigation of Trump/Cohen.

The FBI isn't going to rely on the word of Michael Cohen as evidence, that's for certain. What they will use are documents, phone records, emails and perhaps even audio recordings from Cohen. It will be substantial and irrefutable evidence. Giuliani acknowledged Trump Tower Moscow talks were ongoing during the campaign and even up to election day. Does anyone else in the universe believe for a nanosecond that those discussions with Moscow ended on Nov. 8, 2016? I can just imagine Michael Cohen on the telephone with is Russian counterpart on November 7th, "okay then, thanks a lot. We can't talk to you anymore after tomorrow, bye"

Giuliani first claimed that the Moscow Tower discussions ended in January 2016, then that changed to June 2016. Now he's claiming that talks went on well into October and possibly November 2016 right up to election day. The significance of the timeline changing only means it's important enough to Trump and his lawyers to keep changing it. What's the reason for that? I believe it's because they know that the FBI has proof-positive of precisely what that timeline is and they're trying to do damage control in advance of Mueller's release of his findings.

"One of the only things that Giuliani has been consistently good at is getting out ahead of bad facts before they surface in the press or in pleadings. When there is bad news coming, Giuliani blurts it out, the public gawks, and the shock is absorbed in advance." - Joyce Vance

You realize this isn't just a little white lie? This is the american president looking a foreign adversary in the face and saying "I'd really like to build a hotel, I'll use your banks for the loans, this could be really good for both of us wink wink nudge nudge" while looking the american people in the face and outright denying that he has any dealings in Russia what so ever, even attacking the FBI, DOJ and the media for daring to accuse him of having dealings in Russia. You need to take a step back and honest to god take a look at this.

Cohen kept records of exchanges and taped telephone calls. You remember the FBI raided his office and residence?

Mueller also has all the emails and texts of Felix Sater, Cohen's Trump Tower partner working in Moscow.

I don't think he did....I think that sitting at the head of a hotel/resort empire like Trump did, he doesn't specifically know ALL of the stages in process of every project...That's why leaders of large companies like this delegate....

But, I want to go back to the standard you were promoting earlier, and now seem to be shifting away from that...We want accomplished people to run for President right? In this election we wanted an accomplished businessman to take the office to get this country growing again...How would you expect to attract anyone to this office if it were a requirement to destroy their careers to do such...?

Plus, you didn't answer the question about legality to build a hotel in Russia....Do you think that is illegal?

That's where your wrong. Cohen and Trump exchanged information often regarding the Trump Tower progress. Mueller has these communications.

All the while he's working with the Russians (and offering Putin a penthouse in TT Moscow) Trump is lying directly to the American people.....

"No dealings whatsoever with Russia."
