More hysteria..."BIGGEST STORM EVER!"

Re: More hysteria..."BIGGEST STORM EVER!"

You didn't even try. That chart doesn't go back 50 years, you are moving the goalposts there.

There is more construction, but that's only part of the story, and not the important part.

I'm basing that on observations at Nags Head, among other coastal areas. Many of those early Nags Head cottages are still there.

There is more construction. A lot more construction. And the construction is way more valuable. More valuable infrastructure placed in harms way means more damage when storms hit.

Again, only part of the story.

You are trying to close your eyes and wish this away.

It's here to stay, and it's going to get a lot worse.

Re: More hysteria..."BIGGEST STORM EVER!"

The increase in the chart is over the last 20 years. While what you said is true, it's one part of the story, and not the largest or most important part.

There is more rain and more storm surge, and they account for the majority of the damage. Scientists expect that trend to continue, which means the costs will keep rising.

The chart lists the storms in ascending order of cost. Chronologically, it should look like this...

Biggest, worst, costliest...same difference.

Actually, no, but good try. And it might still be the costliest. I lived on Wrightsville Beach and then Wilmington for 5 years and there's a LOT of fancy, newly constructed high dollar real estate just a few feet above sea level all through that area, much of it built on drained wetlands, where they're predicted to get up to 10 foot storm surges, plus the rain and wind. We'll see. I have a lot of friends hoping they'll have a house to come back to when the threat recedes.

Re: More hysteria..."BIGGEST STORM EVER!"

The cost of a hurricane is entirely dependent upon it's intensity and where it makes landfall. Since the population along the coasts is ever increasing, the amount of monetary damage done by a hurricane will increase as well.

That is the point all the 'doom and gloom' predictors seem to overlook. Hurricanes, tornadoes, etc. are not becoming any more frequent or any more severe than they historically have ever been so far as competent science can determine. But when they first started recording these things in the 19th Century, the global population was roughly 1.2 billion. In 1900 it had grown to roughly 1.6 billion. 1950 - 2.55 billion. And by 2000 the world's population had exploded to well past 6.5 billion and we are at 7.6 billion now. Since a LOT of that growth was in coastal areas, that gives hurricanes a lot more targets so there is much more damage and it is much more costly. And we now have satellite imaging and more weather monitoring equipment all over the globe so storms that might have pretty well gone unnoticed 40 years ago are quite obvious now.

If the trend continues there will be more than 9 billion souls on Earth in another 25 years. There won't be a lot of habitable remote areas left so almost all extreme weather events are going to negatively effect a lot of people. And those who catagorize it all in political terms will be blaming it on global warming/climate change when that will have little to nothing to do with it.

Re: More hysteria..."BIGGEST STORM EVER!"

Of course you arenxt going to embarress yourself further. I get that.

You can quote from them if you like, I just don't like playing the role of research assistance to prove YOUR point. Sorry.

The amount of energy going into the Gulf will continue to increase, the seas will continue to rise. You don't need a supercomputer to see the result, just turn on the news.

And so it continues...the raw hysteria about an occurrence which is anything but unique. "President Trump is complicit!"...lol

Are you people going to continue to believe this man made global climate change narrative after yet again being so wrong?

Isn't the "warmer ocean temperatures" supposed to strengthen a storm? What is the excuse this time?

The eye wall is breaking down and it is weakening. Did Trump do that, too?

I gave you the information. It's up to you to inform yourself, or remain ignorant. I can only show you the water. I can't make you drink it. Don't declare victory, the admit you didn't even read the material.

How do you explain going ten years with no hurricans making landfall?

So far, the predictions of the news, and for that matter those concerned scientists using super computers, have not always worked out. Va Beach is still there, The ice bergs and glaciers have not melted, oceans are mostly the same level as pre 2000. We still manage to survive on the air available.

Whatever!

Problem is I don't care about the claim because I know what the, experts, the National Hurricane Center, predicted, quoted them, and it was NOT that the storm would come ashore at a cat 5. If some idiot writing click bait misrepresented the threat, OK, you win a point! Congrats on your victory!

On another forum the liberals are going crazy because Trump said this storm was gonna be very wet!

You sure they were going crazy? Because afaik, liberals are laughing at Trump for saying the storm was going to be "very wet." LOL, just call Trump "Sherlock". He does manage to say the stupidest things, and make the USA a laughing stock around the world.

Yep that’s what they were putting you elected President down for and dang if my local news said this is gonna be a large rain maker, maybe Trump should say sunny and 80 degrees out no need to evacuate, what do liberals want their some of the dumbest individuals on earth!

Don't hurt yourself moveing that goalpost.

Re: More hysteria..."BIGGEST STORM EVER!"

Don't hurt yourself moveing that goalpost.

Again, congrats on your victory. Take a win where you can, right? You've asserted but not shown beyond a wall of bare links that at least one outlet somewhere in the vast internet predicted Florence would come ashore as a Cat 5 hurricane. That's a big deal for you! You should be proud!

In the meantime a bunch of old friends in Wilmington are worried about losing their house to the winds, storm surge and/or torrential rain that will cause massive flooding in some parts of that area. I don't think those affected give a flying **** about your point, other than hoping it comes ashore as a nothing, and if it does they'll not be whining about some article missing the severity. Worst case they and their families are safe because they got out of the storm's way. That's a GREAT outcome.

You said nobody said anything an increase to cat 5. I proved you wrong.

More hysteria..."BIGGEST STORM EVER!"

Pretty much EVERYBODY was predicting a possibly Cat 5 storm as little as two days ago. Some of us actually follow all the news other than that put out by the TDS people:

https://globalnews.ca/news/4440070/hurricane-florence-category-5-6-storm/

There’s always a possibility of a storm strengthening.

Why is this being portrayed as a big librul plot?

Oddly... your odd news link says that SOME people think it MIGHT have a chance to be a category 5, and then devotes the vast majority of the article to speculating what a cat 5 hurricane would do. You apparently think that writing lots of words on a cat 5 means that EVERYBODY KNEW it was going to be a cat 5.

You’re definitely one of the suckers the weather channel preys on.

Back in the 70s, Darpa and oil company research both found climate change. That finding hasn't changed, but it has been supported.

Luck.

More energy in, more energy out, what part of that is too complicated for you.

But, when a storm makes landfall, it's global warming/the apocalypse? :lamo

But it has. The dire predictions of the '70's have mostly not come to pass. In particular of those like that Nobel winner Algore.

Few people question climate change. Major climate change has happened at least 6 times we know of. What's in dispute is how serious it is and exactly what causes it. Then what, if anything, mankind can or should do about it.

Re: More hysteria..."BIGGEST STORM EVER!"

I just asked for a link or links demonstrating your point. I got:

:failpail:

As to what someone somewhere might have said on Monday, I don't really care. I know what the National Hurricane does NOT do which is predict the strength of a hurricane at landfall several days out, so I know the experts weren't predicting a landfall of Cat 5.

Dude you couldnt google a phrase...what could you possibly do with links if you cant even google. Im not your mom, Im not here to help you learn things, Im here to demonstrate you cant as I just did. You literally could not google a simple phrase. If you did, you would have found numerous links. Thats what members of political forums do in order to be efficient. Jesus man. Thats lazier than facebookers.
