Re: Mitt Romney announcing VP selection tomorrow (Saturday), 9 ET

Ryan hasn't ever gone through and delineated the specific reductions in complexity that make the nominal rate cuts revenue neutral, and so your claim that Ryan's "own" computations show such is false.

Except that he outlined how much would be spent on tax cuts and how much would be cut in spending. Guess which number almost covers the other?

If by "reasonable shape" you mean "balanced", then I agree? How about it?

Ryan plan causes deficit to go up for years before under many unrealistic assumptions (similar to Obama's plan) cause a decrease in the deficit. It's hilarious to watch Ryan bash Obama's budget and then take the same assumptions for his plan. Iraq spending for one.

That is incorrect - what it does is switch everyone on Medicare to a Part D structure, and then cap the growth in benefits to Inflation+1%, which is the same cap imposed under the ACA, while shifting resources from higher-income seniors to lower-income seniors.

So you're saying that switching to a modified structure which ends the entry of new patients to the existing program which results in less benefits results in the same program for everyone?

Do you want to try that again or keep that final answer?

Sort of - it's a bit like talking to a wall. A particularly arrogant wall who thinks that insulting people is the same thing as logically demonstrating a point.

You mean like the person who kept posting a study which explicitly ignored the impact of all non-fiscal policy factors and keeps posting it despite being shown why it's stupid?

:)

Because people tend to suspect others of what they themselves are guilty of?

Huh. Interesting. Therefore you are what you keep calling me. Small person syndrome eh? Did you get picked on in highschool? Is that why you keep accusing me of that?

Fantastic. Show where.

You do realize I get to actually call you a proven liar no once I start posting links?

Re: Mitt Romney announcing VP selection tomorrow (Saturday), 9 ET

Cute. I'm getting called a hack from the left and the right. Guess that proves I'm in the middle.

Oh look. Another person ignorant on the Greece situtation.

Let's gover the basics since you clearly don't get it.

1) Greece pushed its banks to lend to increase industries and backed their lending
2) Greece has a wholesale culture of tax evasion
3) Greece did spend far more than it should have per capita

Now, we do not have #2 for the most part. While we do mis about $500 billion to $300 billion per year, people are generally honest.
Our lending problems stem from home ownership. But the problem we face now is lack of lending rather than too much. We are still in a partial liquidity crunch even after QEs.
As for the spending issue, austerity by itself, does not work as evident by Europe. Cutting spending now, without an increase in domestic will lead to demand cliff. No one here has ever argued how a demand cliff is good for the economy. While we need to cut SOME spending, Ryan plan cutting will destroy our economy.

Hardly. I just realize that I'm smarter than many of you and most of you aren't used to dealing with someone who knows that.
I am not impressed by midgets who feel they need to express their self-evaluation of their own intellect. I am even less impress with them when they pretend to have insight into a country of which I am a citizen and lived in most of the period of time when one socialist government to the next squandered whatever limited resources they had and have left their progeny bankrupt. I am afraid that that's where Obama's headed, especially in his second term. People like Thatcher, Reagan and Ryan are exactly the elixir for such shortsightedness.

Re: Mitt Romney announcing VP selection tomorrow (Saturday), 9 ET

Yayyy Paul Ryan. Well gotta appeal to conservatives somehow..

Re: Mitt Romney announcing VP selection tomorrow (Saturday), 9 ET

If Romney goes with Pawlenty or Portman, it suggests his advisors believe the campaign is tracking well. If he goes with Ryan or Rubio then it seems the campaign thinks they need a "game-changer" or hail-mary (2008 all over again).

I guess we will get to know soon if the campaign thinks they are dealing from a position of strength or a position of desperation.

If this is true maybe we can now start talking about issues instead of conspiracies and who paid taxes.

Re: Mitt Romney announcing VP selection tomorrow (Saturday), 9 ET

The reason the Palen-Biden debate sucked is because Uncle Joe couldn't let loose the fury. And the bar had been set so low for Sarah.

This promises to be the best VP debate ever. Best as in entertaining watching Joe wipe the floor with this little ****.

You talk about the most powerful and accomplished men in the country as if they were your equal.

Hopefully this will bring the economy, the budget (:lamo), spending, entitlements, etc into the picture and the drivel will fall to the wayside.

Re: It's official - Paul Ryan is Romney's pick for VP

Well it looks like the libtard members of the forum are active this morning. Trying to put a negative spin on a great pick for VP.

Ryan is smart, conservative, and tough. He understands what it will take to return our economy to sanity.

The left wing lies about his plan will be debunked and the libs will be running for the hills. He will completely destroy plugs biden in a debate, it will be fun to watch.

Now Romney has a balanced ticket and can begin the attack on Obama's failures, his lack of experience, his far left ideology, and his questionable background.

Sorry, lefties, obozo will be a one term president. your false messiah has only a few weeks left in the whitehouse.

Its over, President Romney---get used to it.

I guess the difference is that I see Biden as a parasite who has sucked on the public tit all of his adult life and is still a moron
I don't worship politicians as being worthwhile unless they really are

he's a gaping asshole and a clown who signifies what is wrong with American politics

that a guy with as little talent or intellect can get to where he got is a sad statement about America.

but then again, to those who see government as the ultimate good, I can see how some Love a moron like Biden

post all the left wing video lies that you can find, Hazel. the truth is that Ryan is a great pick and will help romney defeat your kenyan messiah in november.

Re: It's official - Paul Ryan is Romney's pick for VP

I think Romney panicked. The original plan seemed to be a rollout next week of a Portman-esque canidate. This would a few slow news days of post Olympic coverage to hype the veepstakes, a rollout week, pre-convention week, convention, and then the home stretch.

Unfortunatly, his campaign has been one disaster after another since early July. Those slow news days would have been dominated with speculation about the Reid source that has transitioned from if to whom, the latest country Romney has insulted (Japan), and analysis of his campaigns partial etch-a-sketch embrace of Romneycare. With his poll numbers softening, and the base demanding Ryan, Romney capitulated.

This isn't going to end well. There's a reason that wonky people don't make good politicians; a lot of times the right policy answer is entirely the wrong political one. Romney's not going to be able (nor will he want to) hide Ryan from the media. That means that Ryan, a policy wonk who's last real race was in 1998 and who has house seat by 30 points ever since, is going to have to stay on message without explaining too much. He may have been able to do it with a primary worth of experience, but now? with every word under a microscope? How is Romney going to look beside Ryan? Is Ryan going to accept Romney's plan (whatever that is), or will it be the other way around?

There's a reson that Romney didn't run against any real challengers this year. Given all of the messaging issues the Obama administration has had over the last 3 years, it's easy to forget how good they are in a campaign.

And as a side note, the GOP should pressure Romney to release his taxes a few days before the convention. If there's anything embarrasing, the convention bump will mitigate it. If there's anything disqualifying, they can move Ryan into the #1 slot.

The thing is, I'm not sure that he needed to. Given Obama's general likeablility and the advantages inherent to an incumbant, Romney's only real avenue for success was to capitalize on a negative economy. If the economy isn't negative enough, Romney doesn't win.

Yup. Get ready for the mother of all Republicans-want-to-kill-old-people-and-autistic-kids campaigns.

For those of you who thought 2004 was dirty? We ain't seen nothin' yet.

Republicans will stab babies in their eyes, and pull spoons full of food out of little school children's mouths. Old people will go to death camps, and have to eat dog food.
