I don't think they want to 'stick it to him'. They want him gone because they think he's hurting the country.
A good lot of Trump's voters however really did want to stick it to someone, depending who they are: to the establishment, to Washington, to the dems, Europe, to women, minorities and yes, his predecessor. Some were even liberal Bernies supporters who wanted to stick it to Clinton. The rest were republicans who had nobody else to vote for. But it was mostly about 'sticking it' to the 'libtards'. That's their schtick.
But the people who voted against Trump in this election and who will vote against him in the next one are looking most of all for relief, for protection, not catharsis. For that reason they'll be able to find better candidates than a wannabe rabble-rouser.
And just look at the talk. The only people talking about an Avenatti run (except the egotist himself) are Republicans, or rather hardcore Trump supporters. They want him to run because in the fantasy football version of politics they play he'd be a beatable opponent. They're probably right. Trump could beat Avenatti because not enough people would get behind Avenatti - which is exactly why he wouldn't survive the primaries let alone go up against Trump.
Actual news sources as well as pundits and op-eds though, they're talking about O'Rourke, Booker, Harris and Sanders again; populists, technocrats, experienced politicians, not Avenatti.
The guy doesn't have a shot.
