Scores of Twitter users have flooded the social networking site announcing their plans to go on looting sprees once Hurricane Sandy makes landfall, as the New York National Guard announced it would put troops on duty in Long Island to prevent such activity.

Homeowners should be prepared for the parasites.

Cops should give one warning and then shoot.

Why waste a bullet on a warning?

Agreed.

You shoot the first one that tries some **** and then hang his dead ass from a tree with a sign "looters will end up like this guy"....Plain and simple

Stuff is invariably more valuable than a life.

When it's my stuff and your life, absolutely.

Seriously, it isn't the stuff that's important-- it's the principle that I will not allow anyone to steal from me. That's worth my life; the life of the person trying to steal from me pales in comparison.

One of my favorite southern yard signs is "nothing in here is worth dying for" with a nice handgun to stress the point.

Looters are a serious problem during times of unrest such as horrendous weather, or civil insurrection. Most looters just want to steal property but others will engage in violent behavior such as murder, rape, arson, or other serious crimes which is why most states triple the penalties during a time of crisis under looting laws. The main reason to deter looters from your property is always that you can't know what the limit of their intent is or how far they will go to accomplish it, the second reason is that because it's your property which should be understood is not up for intrusion.

Some friends of mine lived an hour from the coast, and some years ago a terrible hurricane tore through the region. It was a horrific mess... all power lines down, all roads covered in fallen trees at a rate of ten per mile, all water sources unreliable... and it took weeks to really begin to put things right.

Well my friends had a generator, stored food, and water purification gear to last them until normal services and distribution were restored.

There was a lot of looting going on in affected areas. The generator noise attracted some would-be thieves while my friend was away from the house... and his Missus ran the thieves off with her 9mm Glock.

Good thing too. They NEEDED the genset and supplies they had to weather the crisis... and who knows what they might have decided to do to the lady of the house had she been unarmed.

It isn't simply a matter of the Polite Burglar knocking on the door and saying "Good evening, old chap... I was planning on nicking your telly, figured you wouldn't mind since it isn't really a necessity after all. Be a good chap and help me lug it out the door, would you? I'll be off in a minute and you can get back to your afternoon tea..."

No. Thieves often steal things people NEED, things they can't afford to lose... and there are more than a few that will happily add a bit of rape or worse to the evening's outing if they can.

Scumbags need to be shot dead, preferably in job lots.

for those anti gun clowns who support magazine limit laws, remember that looters tend to come in large groups.

my stuff is more valuable to me than the lives of those who have proven they don't care about the rights of others. and someone willing to rob and loot might also want to rape and murder. anytime you can legally shoot scumbags I think you should because society is better off without them

Rather be a victim I guess. To each his/her own.

its not fun to shoot someone but if you have the legal grounds to do so, its the least distasteful alternative. I have and I know of what I am talking about.

I just do not understand putting you or your family at risk without protecting yourself or them from a home invader. I knew a young man who was an NFL star who was at home asleep when home invaders, thinking he was not home, broke in and shot him after panicing because he surprized them trying to defend his family. He died as a result.

For those who would rather risk dying by being a victim than defending yourself I say you made your choice and expect the worst.

If someone breaks in during the day, I guess we can assume they merely want to steal. If someone breaks in at night I only assume the want to rape or murder and that is what I will respond to. In other words I will try to kill them as quickly as possible or put them in a situation where my wife or son will take them out. we train every year doing house clearing drills with top SWAT operatives and we each have a responsibility of the dogs start going nuts in the dead of night

Good plan; you can't take your safety or security for granted and you also can't depend on the police to protect you. Unfortunately they always show up after the crime has been committed.

I have seen this somewhere but can't remember where:" A .45 is a lot easier to carry than a police officer."

The last time we had a hurricane with power loss I had the playing cards center table doing blackjack drills, the battery powered radio to the left, and the pistol to the right. We were running generator but only to keep a few fans running and keep food from spoiling, every time I heard a dog bark I was checking out the neighborhood. Can't be too careful during emergencies.

Been there done that with hurricanes in Florida. That's one reason I moved to Texas. One Can't be too careful period. Be safe and enjoy our American 2nd Ammendment freedom!

Texas is dependent on how far inland too though. From Corpus Christie to around Ft. Worth can get some pretty nasty stuff too.

Stuff is invariably more valuable than a life.

The parasites ought to learn that.
Sometimes they have to learn the hard way and set an example for their parasite brethren; by sacrificing themselves.

I remember a press report from Florida during the civil rights riots of the sixties. A homeowner was worried about the crowd out front and called 911 to ask if it was okay to shoot them if they came to the door. The answer was yes, but make sure they fall inside the house. That story stood out as an example of unusually helpful advice.

It's not about the property, it's about the act of moral turpitude, and the prevention thereof. Looting is a disgusting act that takes advantage of those who have already been beaten down by this circumstance. They have no consideration for the well being of others, and instead of helping one another overcome a shared tragedy, they choose to profit by victimizing their brothers. The stockade would be a far more fitting punishment for looters, but we aren't allowed to do that anymore.
