Yeah... that's disgusting.

I don't think it should be banned but it's gross as **** and we should look down upon it.
But again, the poll is a failure because it doesn't relay all options, like mine, that yes, it's gross but it shouldn't be banned.

There is no way there's "love" there, maybe love of some kind... she loves his money, he loves her... physique... but not real love. It'll never last.

I think if one of both is underage, yes. When they're both mature, no. In the case which you've linked i'd ban it, though I must say she looks far from 16 y/o.

Alas, he probably has a bunch of money.

I think there should be no restrictions on the marriage decisions of legal adults. That being said, 16 is not a legal adult and this guy belongs in prison.

I assume it's legal wherever they are.

And I assume they are both sane and consenting.

So I have little problem with it and it is none of my business.

Yes, she is a little young to be getting married but I have known a lot of 16-17 year old's that were more street wise and tough then most 30 year olds...so it depends on the person.
And she does not look like an innocent babe in the woods.

Yeah it's creepy...but if they both get what they want from it, it's okay by me.

Besides, with a U.S. divorce rate near 40% (or higher)...who are most people to talk about who should marry who.

BTW...if the guy thinks he looks cool having a 16 year old for a wife, he is delusional. When will all men learn that if the looks/age difference is too great, it just looks stupid.
If she was early thirties and hot, that might look okay. But 16? Come on man...everyone knows she is either an idiot or in it for the money.
And every time you have sex, she is thinking of her last young, attractive boy/girlfriend.

Where did you read that her parents didn't give permission?

Should marriages between people where the age gap is 20+ years be banned because you find it icky?

Case in point:

Courtney Stodden, age 16 married a guy ages 51.

EDIT: Oh Hum..I guess she did admit she got implants.

Isn't the story of her being 16 years old a bit out of date?

3 years later (I just checked) they have had a split, she's dated other guys and decided she wants to be back with him.

Hard to make a moral decision when someone is legally classed as an adult when they decide to marry someone any age older than them.

Been tradition all over the world including the US for centuries. It is only recently (last 100 years) that it has become "ikky". Girls getting married at age 12-13 was not uncommon 200 years ago and they were used as currency when married off to wealthy families or older men.

If a set of parents with a 9 year old daughter wanted to marry her off to a 55 year old should that just be legal?

There needs to be a line drawn somewhere and as far as I know it's 18 in most places.

She looks pretty old for 16.

It is still rather common in a lot of countries.

That it is, based on centuries of tradition.. where people did not live long.

I remember a great line from "A million ways to die in the west" where the lead female character played by Charlize Theorn tells about how she married one of the main baddies in the movie. She married him at age 12 but he waited to bed her till she was 13..She also said she did it because she did not want to be an old maid at age 15 or something like that. Now this is just a movie (and a pretty funny one as well,... the laxative scene is hilarious.), but based on actual facts and history.

Hey I keep getting older but the girls age stays the same. No harm in that.

No. Nothing should be banned simply because it is "icky". Was that not the basis for wanting to ban SSM and interracial marriage? When setting the legal age of consent I would favor age 18 (for being an adult) but not because it is "icky" but because it is consistent with voting and military service. For some reason folks seem to want multiple age limits for defining when one is an adult for purposes of voting, drinking, driving, signing a legal contract and getting a tattoo.

It's all about control, just like a lot of things in life.

Think about it.

Yes but it's because women were -- and still are -- second class citizens.
