Ray Epps, working his way up the OathKeepers ladder while constantly reporting to the FBI so that they could monitor "extremist activity". What better way for the FBI to keep tabs on extremists, or those that might attract extremists, than to engage an organization that was likely to draw them like flies? Even better, what if some of those extremists got it in their heads to do something a little nuts? That could be a big, headline grabbing bust for the FBI and big headlines usually mean big promotions. We learned that from the war on drugs. Heck, you might even want to drop a few "suggestions" to the more suggestible hangarounds to speed up the "big bust" process.

The Dems expected to win the argument and they didn't want a riot either.

On January 2, Mike Lee already had made numerous phone calls and he knew none of the state legislatures were willing to change their EC delegates.

The Dems knew too. It was clear to the Dems which strategies were available to the Rs to legally contest , and Ds had a counter argument for each.

If the Republicans were going to send the slates back to the state legislatures, they knew that was a dead end.

If they were going to vote by state caucuses, Mike Pence had already refused to participate. The Dems knew that too.

Either way, the Dems didn't need a riot any more than the Republicans . I remember you told me before, but why would the Dems plan something that would ruin the success they expected?
