I think i met a homophobe on Saturday

Because i went out to a restaurant on Saturday night and was about to eat dinner, but met this homophobe in the parking lot and he said "how can you turn from girls to guys?" which made me very offended and he said stuff like "don't you know what this says about you, what you are doing?"

And he started trying to attack me, but thankfully i got out of the way.

I never turned from girls to guys.

I'm bisexual, why can't some understand that?

Does a homophobe chose to be a homophobe? Nature or nurture?

When have I uttered those words?
Never claimed that you did, and apologies if it seemed that way. I was pointing out that the same logic of what you said about fear, in your case in relation s to why you carry, also applies to the terms homophobia and such as far as what is the motivation such people.

repulsion of homosexual activity: nature
repulsion of homosexual people: nurture

I was like "Wait... wut? Why for you call me out like that??? :( "
Okay thank you for the clarification.

Could you show some evidence of attacks against heterosexuals, as opposed to attacks on heterosexuals who attack homosexuals?
To what end? That wasn't my point. Neither group attacking the other necessarily constitutes a "phobia."

In fact, a more accurate term for that might be "homo-orge" or "hetero-orge" - orge being the Greek for anger.

So every time you use the words "homophobe" or "homophobia" or "transphobe" or "transphobia" - you do so pejoratively and disparagingly; but not at all accurately.

Ach, ye know better that that lass. We've both been on here long enough to know I stand with you on most topics.

I'm very sorry that this happened to you. I've had similar experiences (not violent, though) and let me tell you, they sometimes leave me shaking with sheer rage. I hate that we live in a world where we have to anticipate being accosted by random people for prejudiced reasons.

I'm glad he didn't manage to harm you, though.

No, it doesn't make it "acceptable" to me.

I merely pointed out the obvious, that labeling people who disagree with homosexuality as "homophobes" is not accurate; moreover, the label is intentionally pejorative, intended to insult and intimidate, not accurately label. And, for what it's worth, my wife and I are routinely on the receiving end of such insults and intimidation because of our beliefs about such behavior.
Oh no, the poor homophobes! :/

And yes, homophobia is an accurate term. People that share your same viewpoints have 'great aversion' to homosexuality, hence the term homophobia.

You know what's far more intimidating? Having to worry about my ability to get married being taken away because a bunch of people in my state legislature don't like gay marriage. You know what's far more intimidating? Having to constantly worry about holding my fiancée's hand or even kissing her on the cheek, because that might set some lunatic off on a tirade, and lead to violence. Spare me of your complaints about "intimidation".

You had a similar experience where someone just magically knew you were gay and proceeded to threaten you or something?

I've been in places holding my same-sex partners hand and people didn't know I was gay. "Wait you're gay, is that where you're holding that dude's hand?".

Why would you need to get married? GOD designed marriage...

Most of the people I know don't care. But then I'm in Vancouver Canada, home of the first "Gay Pride" parade in Canada. Perhaps when you live among people, nest door, same building, same stores it simply becomes totally irrelevant.

I am sober 34 years and try to practice stoicism. While half the world sees a glass half full, the other sees it half empty, a stoic sees a glass...everything after that is opinion, which is most often fraudulent.

I think we need to back off a lot of this. This year's Pride parade included BLM...who vetoed a request to allow gay policemen walk with them in uniform.

THAT'S the shit we need to step on right now!

We are nothing in nowhere if we are simply nursing grudges.

yeah it's kind of the same everywhere else here in the US.

well pride has been taken over not by bln but by corporations. Incorporations just love BLM for some reason I can't quite figure out why

The LGBT has eliminated g and B and most of the l. BLM was actually formed out of the LGBT.

Some really translates to why corporations have involved themselves. Wondering if it's to make up for discrimination in the workforce.

I don't think there's any real way to stop it the way to stop it is to get to corporations out of it. And they're only in it because of Twitter and social media. That's why they're out of touch they're only hearing from the select few of people.

I think you do this to make it into one around and claims of racism and homophobia.

I am amused by such judgments. Talking about conflicts, the use of violence if in a particular case there is a gay (or whoever he calls himself there) and a heterosexual person... then they talk about it with such anticipation and excitement, as if violence happens exclusively in such cases.
Alas, violence is everywhere. And heterosexual people attack each other no less, and most likely more often. When I was young, I had to fight weekly and I was often beaten, only it has nothing to do with homosexuality and the world doesn't worry about it.
There are human rights, period. When people start talking about rights based on race, ethnicity, and who and how likes to fight in bed under the blanket, these are already attempts to knock out privileges for themselves. There is violence and we need to fight it without elevating certain people to the status of special victims, and everyone else to ordinary and irrelevant. First of all, there should be the value of untouchability of any person.
And yes, I'm a homophobe, today is Thursday, I'm from Russia, now I'm in Perm at a military base after a business trip... for all my antipathies to certain human views, decisions and lifestyle, it is important for me that all this is not a reason for the use of violence.

Awe man that bums me.

At one time I volunteered for Pride, writing promos, invitations etc. As it happens along with having a lot of gay friends I two transgendered friends, one very close who does some volunteering here.

I'll talk the them this week end, but I doubt corporate Canada has taken over anything and why? Pride accepts no corporate donations, they have 'straights' on their board who are, we shall say, socialist friendly (Like most Canadian small business.

Here it has become the event of summer! Like 4-20 (the annual Cannabis Parade, celebration). This year they had fireworks & I was given the ****ing coolest shirt in the world, blue with a rainbow & my name embroidered on it.

These people are my friends.

it did for me too. I remember that first year I came out. I went to the pride parade and it was fun but it's kind of impromptu it wasn't like a citywide event it was just this insular community of my fellow gay people. But I want to see about 2015 that's when it turned into a month long celebration and you had to pay to park you had to pay for admission you had to do all this goofy little things that just made it not the pride parade anymore.

corporations have already taken over a pride.

well that's good I'm glad you enjoyed it here it's not what it used to be

1. Why did a stranger verbally attack you? Do you think that your appearance gives off gay vibes?

2. That's the problem: A lot of people nowadays do not stay in their lane. He had no right to speak to you like that.

3. I wish you the best of luck and the greatest happiness in this short and sad phenomenon called "life."

4. I assume that the following will not offend you. (I am sure that you are a very confident person.) I was looking at a rerun of "Friends" when the character who is a goofy singer said something like: "People who call themselves bisexual are only kidding themselves." (P.S. Today a line like that would never be allowed.)

Have a nice weekend!
Perhaps you should watch that again. The line goes "Then there are bisexuals, but some say they're just kidding themselves". She did not say it as a fact that she was expressing, as you show it here, and there is a difference. I know Friends pretty much by heart and know that episode is the one where she (Phoebe) was asked to sing to children and the parents complained that it was inappropriate that she was basically singing about real world truths.

Now yes, there were definitely some lines in Friends that were inappropriate (when it came to homosexuality), and that could even be considered one, but there is still a difference in meaning between what was said and what you posted. Additionally, it would be a product of the time.

Because it implies that bi-sexuality does not exist.

That line got a big laugh at the time (the series ran from 2004 -2014).

Today the sexuality zeitgeist is different.
You need to check again on your dates. Friends ran from 1994-2004, a whole decade off. Clinton was still President for much of the run, including having had at least one joke about Hillary being "the President" at that time.

Thank you for the correction.

I will play the old man's card (I am 85) and ask to be excused.

It is shown for hours here in Los Angeles and still cracks me up.

On a sour note, some people connected with the show have recently apologized for the show not having been "diverse" enough. For those years (1994 - 2004 !!!), it was plenty diverse. It was obviously trying to be diverse. And it was!

I think there is a problem sometimes with some people trying to go too far with the political correctness but don't feel that it is nearly the level others claim it to be.
