I Lost Some Really Good Friends Today

So, I've been giving the Marty Cinematic Universe some thought and here's what I'm thinking.

First, we will write out the @SkyChief character which isn't really resonating with audiences.

Phase 1 will explore Marty's journey from humble "everyman" who is thrust into a world of global intrigue when it is discovered that he had a secret twin brother, recently deceased, who was the mastermind of a plot to hack voting machines to steal elections. Phase 1 will follow Marty and a host of other characters as they work to untangle the complex plot, bring it into the public light, and in the process begin their own hero's journey culminating in the first Planetary Government with Marty its elected leader.

Phase 2 will utilize a time-skip to move us forward a few years, with mankind having become an interplanetary species under Marty's steady leadership. However, the pressure has strained his relationship with his until-now completely supportive wife, and in this phase we will explore this marriage as it begins to fracture under the weight of an alien invasion. The final movie in Phase 2 will end with Marty's wife betraying him to the aliens and forming a human+alien Galactic Empire with our heroes all on the run.

Phase 3 will culminate in Marty & his friends learning to work together, to fight the empire, while beginning a redemption arc for his wife. The final fight scene will even feature a cameo by the @SkyChief character since audiences love guest appearances.

I'm thinking a 22 movie deal and we're in talks with Chris Pine to play Marty.

I don’t think this thread is working out the way that @SkyChief had planned.

The Marty Multiverse is far more exciting.

Wait … c-c-c-Chris Pine?

I’d like to sign up for employment. You don’t even have to pay me. 😍

Let's do it! In fact, we should change all the character names to avoid a licensing dispute with the OP, so let's rename Marty to Magnus McBigMuscle.

That’s fine, but muscles usually aren’t my thing. I’d rather have someone intelligent, and beautiful.

You know … like Chris Pine.

I lost some very good long-time friends today. 😞

We've known this couple since the 90s - - almost 30 years.

Marty (not his real name) called me this morning. "Welp, can you believe it? . . we voted for Trump." I told him that it was incredible. . . . Literally. These people have been ardent anti-Trumpers since 2016. But I tried to offer some encouragement - I explained why even though Trump is a despicable person, he is by far the best choice for President/Commander-In-Chief. I reassured Marty that Trumps's opponent is a two-faced liar, and the most politically radical presidential candidate in U.S. history. I pointed out that while she might be a highly competent D.A., she is incompetent in an executive position. I pointed out what a failure her work as the Border Czar has been, and how the Biden administration is responsible for the calamitous pullout of Afghanistan when 13 U.S. troops needlessly lost their lives due to incompetence of the Commander-In-Chief. It was total mayhem, and probably one of the most unorganized military blunders in U.S. history.

I also pointed out that Trump is only one with experience as a head-of-state. Anyways I was trying to help him rationalize his (wise) decision to vote for someone whom he loathes, based on doing the right thing. I said that voting for Trump's opponent is a foolish choice - and that he and his wife should be at peace voting for Trump.

That's when Marty lost it. He called me an effing racist, and said that he never wants to speak to me or my wife again. Obviously they did NOT vote for Trump - they actually voted for Trump's incompetent opponent. And he's bitter that I pointed out WHY Trump is a better choice.

I really hope Marty calls to apologize and reconcile. Over the years we've done so many things together, and they are good people - they helped us when we were in trouble, and vice-versa.

For the record, I am not voting for Trump OR Trump's opponent. I'll vote for the LP candidate, like I have since 2000.

Eh. My friends do this all time. They call me up around election day to ruefully tell me about their voting decisions, and I do my level best to reaffirm them. Then they tell me "Sike! I voted for the opposing candidate, loser! I hate you for supporting my feigned choice! Never speak to me again!" And then we never speak again.

This is a totally normal and real thing that happens like, all the time. But I notice that it has been my friends who were Democrats who do it most often. I mean, I don't know, but have you ever thought that voting Dem means you just don't value friendship as much and are just not (dare I say it) a good person? Reasonable minds may differ, of course.

Yes, Marty has a loving wife, and female children and female grandchildren.

What is Marty protecting? I would never ever harm any member of his family - - they are (were) dear friends.
Women are having a hard time because of the abortion bans. They're suffering from injuries and even death. So now women are afraid, and Marty might feel protective. I'm it's a topic in their household often. The only thing that trumps friendship is family. That's all I can think of for his abrupt response.

I don't talk politics with friends, unless their politics are similar to mine, and even then only for a few seconds before I change the subject. I talk politics with the Wife and the Poodle. The Poodle is deaf and pretty noncommittal... :ROFLMAO:

Same. I am surrounded by conservatives so I just avoid politics, or make neutral comments

Don't mix politics with: 1) investing, 2) friendships, and 3) family relationships. Learn the art of agreeing to disagree. Be sensitive to the cost of being right.

Legitimately sorry to hear when anyone let's something like politics ruin friendships.

But this is where you guys are at.

Into folks run out of excuses not to be the first to blink, this will be just one of the consequences you guys have to live with. Hopefully America will come to the conclusion that it's just not worth it.

Hey, that’s the price of saving democracy. Either you vote Democrat or you’re kicked off the island. That’s the only way democracy can possibly work.

Neither major party plays it in the level. It’s not like Dems are any less likely to sell their influence to high bidders.

There isn’t an equivalency in certain areas though. Not going to see too many White Nationalists attending Democrat Rallies. Seen my share of them at Trump rallies though.

The only way electorally to stop Trump is to vote for Harris.

Voting Third Party means the voter is perfectly okay with Trump again as President and Commander in Chief if he should win. And as in instances of the law, ignorance is no excuse. Knowledge of Trump makes it worse however.

Third Party candidates appear once every four years on a Tuesday in November then disappear from the wreckage they leave the rest of us with. Third Party voters are, as Harris says of Trump, unserious about their vote that results in serious consequences. Americans are struggling through those serious consequences now because of unserious voters / citizens.

Any third party candidate is the opponent to both major parties. An option to vote against both Trump and Harris besides staying home stating to heck with it.

A vote for anyone else says Trump is just fine and dandy for the voter.

This election is unique in that it is between Liberal Democracy vs. Fascist Dictatorship. This is impossible to miss for a person who pays attention.

Trump-MAGAs have a main strategy of exploiting democracy to destroy democracy.

J6 and the EV certification is the ultimate to date in the cynical strategy.

Now however EV certification as adapted beyond J6 is in the offing, having been expanded into the vote count and certification by certain states and counties.

MAGAs are cynical in this way given a main MAGA strategy is to exploit democracy to destroy democracy. John Kerry's 1A remarks really set MAGAs off exploiting democracy to destroy democracy. This is what MAGAs do since 2015.

This coming from the party that is running a presidential candidate that didn't receive a single vote in the primaries, rigged the 2016 primaries against Sanders and can't wrap their heads around the concept of federalism.

MAGA Boilerplate.

Which in this instance means your post fails to address my post you are supposedly replying to.

My post said that for as long as there have been MAGAs you guys have schemed to exploit democracy to destroy democracy. Free speech, the Supreme MAGA Court and Trump's immunity, J6 and now J6 in the states and counties.

And my reply was, in a nice way, stating that not only are you wrong but that you are completely ignoring all the ways that the Democrats and NeverTrumpers have completely turned on democracy merely because Trump got elected through a democratic process and you NEVER want that to happen again. You use the term, "democracy", but have no concept of how it applies to the US form of government.

Dont hear much complaining from our side, do ya? There was nothing illegal or even inappropriate in process. The Republicans challenged nothing.

So why are you complaining?

The Republicans, as a rule, don't get a say in how the Democrats appoint their candidates. If the DNC were to just select a slate of candidates and forego primaries altogether the GOP don't get much say in that other than to point out that such methods aren't exactly democratic.
