I have to wonder if many who support the gop stop to think what they are supporting could end up making america into a version of russia today?

why would we need to.... you all start them continuously! LOL

It's the Left who need to stop and think about how they're making America into their image of Russia -- repressive, thought-policed, no freedom of expression and freedom to speak your mind, a state-run society, and no freedom to bear arms

I think you missed the last thirty years, vis a vis Russia.
In 1991 I was in my third year working for a Russian language TV program originating out of West Hollywood, serving the Soviet diaspora in LA County.
The Soviet Union had just fallen and a good many Russians were looking forward to the end of communism and the emergence of capitalism...I think the average Soviet gave that about "ten minutes" and
then began complaining that their lives hadn't been instantly transformed.
Russians in West Hollywood meanwhile, were sharing their experience with folks back home who wouldn't listen.

I've never advocated for repression, thought-policing, or limits on freedom of expression or some state run society and I am a gun owner.
And a lifelong Democrat.
I think you decided long ago that we're all some monolith, which means that you don't pay any attention to anything we say because you're too busy listening to your manufactured cardboard cutout
facsimile that lives in your head. That's the height of intolerance and I can prove it because I am betting your response will either be whataboutisms, straw men or accusing me of being a communist, which is what you do at least three times a day here.

I am not politically correct. I grew up on Mad Magazine, The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers (and all the other "underground" comics) National Lampoon, George Carlin, Lenny Bruce, Bill Hicks
and muscle cars. I was in a blues band up in Minneapolis and I chased women the whole time. I'm a dirty old man today. I don't even think I can explain what "woke" is but I imagine the version of it in my heyday was just teen angst residing in people who weren't angry teens anymore and my antedote is just being kind, courteous and open to learning new things.
And I bet that represents the overwhelming majority of Democrats...and maybe even a few moderate conservatives.
I do not tolerate intolerant people but beyond that, if someone is kind and courteous to me, I try to be the same in return.

If not, they get my middle finger salute.
Is that "woke", too?

Those who support the GOP have already made up their minds they want a strong Putin style leader.

All they have to do is learn a little Russian and they can have it to their heart's content...over IN Russia.

Haha! Someone thinks racism is no big deal in this country. That's hilarious!

I bet you think climate change is no big deal either. And Covid is just like the common cold, right?
Nice strawman arguments. Let me know when you have anything substantive to bring to the discussion. Until then, do please skip over my posts.

We could add billion dollar industries like FIFA, NHL, NFL, MLB, NBA, etc etc etc had covid shut downs, lost billions not having fans in attendance. Musicians shutting down tours. Countries all over the world took measures. Yeah, the entire world was in on the hoax

What laws have Democrats introduced that do this? Because we see plenty of Republican state legislatures passing laws criminalizing teaching and library books, putting politicians in charge of elections, denying women the right to control their own bodies. A large number of Republican congressional leaders were willing to overturn an election and throw out tens of millions of votes.

Republicans have made the Supreme Court into something you would expect to see in Russia. It has an ideological position that has been unchanged for 50 years and may continue with it for another 40, but more extreme. It has become, as an institution, the antithesis of a liberal democracy. Republican leaders see the Democrats as an existential threat to this country. This is also the antithesis of a liberal democracy. They would support a corrupt demagogue rather than see even a moderate democrat win.

They are essentially controlled by one man to whom everyone is expected to show fealty.

They are very much like a Putin Party.

Republican congressional leaders allowed the president to attempt to extort a foreign country for political gain and incite a violent insurrection (using a "technicality"). Some of them even helped him overturn a fair election. This is something one would expect to see in Russia.

Making it illegal to teach outside of legislated parameters.
Give me an example of "teaching outside of legislated parameters" which you would legitimately still call teaching

Would that be an example of teaching you don't want criminalized?

Which, if any of your complaints have happened? You're on here speaking your mind, are you not? Who is repressing your thoughts, the republicans who are telling your kids what books they can and can't read by the state run government you are bitching about? Nobody is taking your arms but I have to admit I've heard it from the right every single presidential election I can remember, 'they' are coming for your guns and I started voting in '72 and I'm almost seventy. Still have your guns?

As expected, Republicans didn't deal with the issues of this post. One tried to use humor to cover up the truth.

Republicans expect to win control of Congress in the November mid-terms.

Here's an example, "one of a handful."

I didn't see him say anything about race, climate change nor COVID, which leads inevitably to the conclusion that you have terminal TDS. That's sad.

You guys are such drama victims. All if this bitching and protesting about wearing a mask. It makes me wonder if america was attacked by rockets and missiles and the government told us all to seek shelter would people stand out in the open bitching about losing their rights? You think the government actually collects all of our data? Welcome to 2022. Any person of reason would balk at wearing a mask and getting vaccinated during a pandemic, no?

You still have not answered the question, give an example or two please. Those talking points is a rather vague response.

It's important when starting threads to understand hyperbole.

One could say the exact same thing about Democrats. People do in fact and it's equally as worthless when they do it

Whataboutism Man is in the house!

Zoom. The point flew right past you.

Administration determines it's time to drop the mask requirements because the COVID pandemic risk to the public has waned.
At the same time they order the extension of emergency COVID pandemic government powers.
Why is that?

Do please expend some thought energy onto this question, which was the point, please, before responding further, please.

Because they want to create a totalitarian government, right? Dictate what teachers can teach? Dictate what they can have in school libraries? Compel party membership to hold fealty to one man? Control a branch if government through generations? Throw away tens of millions of ballots? Is that what they're headed toward?

Your defense of white nationalism is noted.
