How to Cut Child Poverty in Half.

If you consider what I've said about the super wealthy to be an attack, what you've said about the poor (over 80% of the human population) is inexcusable. Calling them failures and then calling it a proper response is laughable as if one can describe the problem of poverty with one adjective. Pathetic.
It was more or less a joke-stop being so sensitive.
ok, how do they get wealthy? They certainly don't accomplish this all on their own.
Really? That is a very simplistic answer-also something a radio personality would probably say. To simply label people failures does not provide a good argument for your position, but it does make you sound elitist, simplistic, and rather ignorant. Poverty cannot be described accurately by reason of a logical fallacy.
You're right about that much. In fact is, the entire global system needs to be changed-something that will never happen. The poor will always be with us.
ut this-this is inexcusable.
Poverty Facts and Stats
How do the rich get rich. Well..two possibilities apparently. They steal from poor people (please show me how this is happening)...OR

They work hard. Or their parents work hard. Either way. I busted my ass so my kids didnt experience what I did. I intentionally started them off with an advantage over their peers. They will create those same opportunities for their children. In three generations we will have gone from a situation where since our family came here from Denmark in 1887 I was the first person to so much as graduate high school, to where it is expected as a norm for our children and their children to graduate with advanced degrees.

I didnt steal a penny from 'the poor.' Neither did my wife. We busted our ass for 30 years to undo a pretty ugly yesterday.

The poor will always be with us because they lie in the dirt and accept it-not because some rich person is putting them there. Thats just an incredibly asenine position to take. You dont have to tell me about 'the poor'. I work with them every day. Some put on their big boy and big girl pants and change their lives. Some roll over and die...one day at a time.

The poor will always be poor because we will always live in a society where we have stratified standards of living. . . we always have -there are very few cultures where everyone is seen as an equal on the same social level.

No matter how well off everyone becomes - the poor will always be the people who have the least, work the lesser jobs - and so on.

Oh you can not come up with anything verifying your statement, go figure:roll:

I don't need to-i see these people constantly. are you denying that that educated people delay having children compared to the uneducated?

Still nothing of substance to support your position, 4th generation welfare families. I sure hope you don't practice law like this.

(BTW I didn't use an average of 20 years.)

Right you are. My maternal grandfather started working at age 11. He went to college part time paying for it by working a couple jobs. He was blessed by a high IQ and was a mechanical genius. Though his parents never went to college he put my late uncle through williams (he died his junior year in an accident) and my mother through the best women's college in the USA

my paternal grandfather was a top graduate at Yale and was a war hero in WWI. He married into a well respected family that was established by a civil war hero who married into a wealthy businessman's family. While my paternal grandfather's family wasn't poor it was by no means wealthy. His status as a Yale Phi Beta Kappa and earning the DSC Purple Heart (twice) Silver star and bronze star was what helped him.

and both sets of grandparents saved for their children who then saved for my brothers and I. Just as I do for my son. But the envious claim I or my ancestors someone cheated THEM of their wealth and they are poor because of people such as me

You seem to be upset. is it your lot in life you blame on me that bugs you? Do you deny that there are people who have lived for generations on the government dole?

What type of 'educated' are we discussing? In 1912 it was very uncommon for a teenager (16 - 18 years of age) to attend and graduate highschool. The number of students who attend and graduate highschool - and even continue onto college in their early adult years - is steadily increasing. The opposite (not graduating highschool or going onto college) is becoming more uncommon.

With various types of support given (grants, scholarships, loans, etc) and changes in certain values and views it's becoming more common for people to become educated - child having status or not - period.

To top that off - it's yet becoming more common for an uneducated single parent to attend college after having kids in order to improve the family life (as is the case for me)

Upset? LOL, can you support your claims about 4th generation families or not?

we have tons of 3rd and 4th generation families that have known nothing but the public dole.

yeah personal knowledge. Right out of law school one of my assignments was as a prosecutor for one of the medium sized cities in our county.

And how do we go about verifying that information since that what was being asked for?

Why do you almost always resort to your personal history that cannot be verified or examined and stay far away from any verifiable information from independent sources that can be verified? This is at least the fifth or sixth time that you have done this and its always to get out of a tight corner that you find yourself in when you cannot support your claims.

Was this in btwn your climbing Mt. Everest and Queen of Egypt gigs?

Agreed, that is what the founders wanted

The framers created a system by which the could spend all they wanted, for any reason, including using Federal funds to placate to special interest and to bribe constituents. That wonderful power derives from the "General Welfare Clause", which both parties are guilty of abusing.

Well said. People who are born into privilege rarely "fail" since success is easier for them to obtain. How do many of the super wealthy steal from the poor? There are countless examples, but I'll post a well made documentary:

(if anyone does actually watch these, they will require about an hour of your time, but they're broken up into 10 minute videos)

Currently, 1 out of 10 children die in Bolivia before the age of five because of a lack of clean drinking water. Water was privatized in 1997.

The poorest people pay more for many essential services than the rich. Should people really have to pay for water?

Many of these water companies were created by bankers.

The World Bank has forced many third world countries into privatizing their water supply. Countries and corporations are taking control of the world's water supply at the expense of billions of poor people.

$400 billion of global business made by corporations out of the water industry every year. Corporations have built dams that have diverted water away from eco systems and poor villages so that they can increase their profit margins. And world wide, millions of people are displaced because of these dams.

The World Bank provides most of the funding for dams built around the world, and this bank is immuned to being held accountable for its actions in these third world countries. Meanwhile, in many places, it is actually illegal for people to collect rain water.

Im still waiting for the examples of the rich stealing from the poor to become wealthy.

Does life suck for some people? Sure...it does. You arent going to fix that...even if you are a rich movie star (let) that swoops in and occasionally snatches up one of their little kidlinks and saves them.

Nestle Corporation takes billions of gallons of ground water in Minnesota for its bottled water sells while the common people watch helplessly as their wells and streams dry up. Nestle is being sued in several states where streams, wells, and ground water are being depleted and even creating sink holes in some areas. In addition, Nestle pays almost nothing into the communities it steals from. And then when people signed petitions against the corporation, they were intimidated by private investigators.

These corporations are destroying communities all over the world in its search for more profit.

People seriously need to wake up and acknowledge what is happening around the world. This current system is unsustainable, and events will continue to worsen as these atrocities are ignored.

And Vance, you have to actually watch the videos in order to comment on them.

So to be clear...when you say people are stealing from the poor you only mean in impoverished countries...right?

Do abuses occur? Sure. Are there dishonest people? You bet. Are there countries (heck...continents) where the majority of people live an absolutely sucky existence? Ceded. Now...

...welcome to the developed world. 1st and 2nd world countries. Sorry if I dont too twisted about Bamfoo India....not a whole lot of relevance in my life. Cant fix it and its not my job, and they resent the hell out of us when we do. There are many relief and church organizations that are providing basic services for these folks. I donate to the,...about all I can do. Like I told Patch Adams several years ago...I dont have to travel to Cambodia to see misery and to affect change...I go right downtown.

When you want to discuss say...the US, or Canada, or England, France, Germany, places where they dont live in grass huts...lets talk.

No. If you had watched the videos, you would have seen many examples of how individuals are affected by the actions of several corporations and even the World Bank.
I understand that the documentary is long, but please take the time to watch it. I think even you would find it well supported. There are countless examples and even commentary from the impoverished themselves telling their stories. There is also the point of view from the corporation's side as they were also given the chance to defend themselves against these accusations.

I see where you're going with this, and it's an age old tactic. Your basic premise here is, and please correct me if I'm wrong: "that's life/**** happens. . ." I'm sorry, but that's just not good enough to justify the raping of the natural world, and the pillaging of innocent people worldwide so that a small minority of the human race can make vast sums of profit at the expense of the majority who remain powerless to fix their situations. Just watch the videos. It shows many of these inflicted people attempting to better their situations using peaceful tactics. And then watch how it accomplishes virtually nothing at all. Can a few hundred villagers in a third world country really fight a multi billion dollar conglomerate like Coca-Cola? Sadly, no-they cannot.

Yes, it's not your problem, so why should you care? Apparently, plenty of other people take your view on life which is why these horrible events continue to take place. But one day, it will be in your backyard and then you wont be able to ignore these problems. There is a water shortage, in case you didn't know.

[Start this video at 2:05 if you're interested, and you'll get the point of this clip from this famous movie, The Third Man.

well anyhow, if you bother to watch the documentary, you'll see several examples of how the wealthy exploit the middle class and the poor right here in the US.

Raising the minimum wage another 3 dollars! What a stupid idea.

Let me tell you where I am going. The simple fact is that most-the great majority- people get wealthy because they bust their ass to succeed. The claim that I or anyone else 'steals' from the poor is silly. Please demonstrate. Im not going to debate with a video. Talk to me about specifics. The ultimate reality is that when people do not go to school, when they do not plan for their future, whenh they do not take advantage of existing programs, they fail. Thats on them...and no one else.

And yes...I do. He is a wondeful, caring, very bitter man (lets not overstate things...I met him several times...we corresponded infrequently). I respect what he does...bless his heart. I respect what the Gesundheit Institute does. I think he is a bit misguided. He decries capitalism and the systems which FUND his efforts in non-capitalist nations...and he exploits captialist resources without shame or denial). I respect what the church support groups, the United Way (which I contribute to as well) and the Peace Corps all do.
