I am a grammar and spelling nazi. I admit it. Well, I guess I'm not that bad because I usually don't point it out, but it certainly bothers me when I see it.

It depends on how bad it is. The confusion some people seem to have over the proper use of "you're" and "your" gets sort of annoying, as does the countless instances of the misuse of the words "they're," "their," and "there." I wouldn't say that either mistake really get's me particularly upset though.

I honestly think my biggest pet peeve is the flagrant abuse of the "..." expression by certain posters. I occasionally use it in a stylistic sense, but some people seem to think it's a catch-all replacement for proper punctuation in general.

i.e.

"I went to the store today...

...This crazy dude was at the counter...

I was like... whoa... that's weird..."

After reading about four lines of that, I'll usually just tune that particular poster out entirely.

It doesn't bother me when other people do it on DP, but I don't do it myself. Drives me, personally, crazy. I've edited a thread because I've mis-used or structured a sentence wrong. Mis-spelling? Fuggetaboutit. (That's Italian.)

It personally annoys me at times. I'm usually just skim reading posts on here, and won't catch the small grammar mistakes and just a few of those little grammar/spelling mistakes can my interpretation of a post wildly inaccurate.

"All of THE sudden" instead of "All of a sudden" makes my teeth itch.

And for some reason, much to my chagrin, i have begun writing "their" for "there" and vice versa.

I know better, but don't even realize i'm doing it.

I think "nazi" is supposed to be capitalized LOL

I don't mind it mostly--we all make mistakes--but when someone is going out of their way to try to demean someone else feigning intellectual superiority in a post with errors, I do get a good chuckle. (not saying you BTW)

Some people are idiots. Some people make typos.

A good grammar Nazi distinguishes between the two and limits their reaction to the former.

It bothers me alot. I don't usually say anything about it, because usually in an argument, when you start correcting someone's spelling or grammar, you've lost the debate. That being said, it bothers me alot. I belong to a small group on Facebook that is an "online yard sales" thing, and I can't count the number of people who post "FOR SELL." :| I hate that.

Poor grammar doesn't bother me (but it does tell me a lot about a poster's level of intelligence and education).

But giant walls of text that aren't broken up into smaller, logical paragraphs irritate the living **** out of me.

It can be a bit annoying if overdone, but I don’t hold forum posts to the same level I would hold formal writing.

That said, I really wish people would stop writing “I could care less” when they actually mean “I couldn’t care less”.

Sometimes, and it's really difficult not to correct people too. It probably has to do with my job though. I tend to be more relaxed when here myself and try not to worry about things like sentence structure and grammar. Spelling is something that I just HAVE to get right though.

I notice it, but only find it mildly annoying, and usually makes me assume that the writer is young.

I usually don't read those. Honestly, I just don't bother.

Something else that bothers me and the offender shall remain nameless - usually the first sentence of the post is bolded red, then other parts of the post are bolded black, and also excessive smilies. Another poster used to put their entire post in pink. Bothers me. Honestly, I usually don't read them.

Ah yes. I actually would like to thank the poster who bolds his first sentence in red; it's like a bright red warning sign that says "Scroll down now". It's very thoughtful of him, really.

Check this out:

That was from my local NBC affiliate before the election.

That literally made me laugh out loud. My daughter looked at me like I was crazy.

In his defense, it's a software issue.

Usually when somebody is young, they have the tendancy to write like "i got 2 go 2 werk. C U l8r?" I hate that.

When I first started on this stuff bandwidth and down load times were a serious consideration. My first modem was 14.4k and we did rn and nn news groups plus a bbs. We condensed everything we could.

Doesn't bother me because 9 times out of 10 I am watching something or talking to the wife, most of the time it is just a typo

What do you mean?

There was a discussion about it (in a place which shall not be mentioned), a few months ago. Someone was making fun of him about it, and he explained what was causing it. It had something to do with some software on the computer he uses to post here.

I am not bothered by the typos at all. Who has time to check and double check? - it's not like any information will go missing...

I AM bothered, though, by the frivolous use of the word 'Nazi'. I am a Pole. Any further questions?
