"It's the economy stupid."

That was the rallying cry of the Tea Party when they brought about a swing in independent voters and gave the GOP control of the House and a tighter minority in the Senate during the mid term election and control of state legislatures all across the land.

Now as I watch unemployment hovering around 9% and the uncompromising GOP standing firm against raising the debt ceiling and pushing the country towards potential default and economic catastrophe, I have to wonder how they have fixed the economy so far. How exactly has attacking the unions and laying off thousands of government employees benefited the economy to date? How has the hardline position against raising taxes during a historical period of low taxes, benefited job creation? Where are the results? The GOP has succeeded in keeping taxes low and pushing the Democrats to make spending cuts. Where are the benefits?

Where's the benefits for the conservative Republican low tax era? The worst job growth over a decade since the end of WWII? A declining middle class? Remind me again what's Einstein's definition of ‘insanity.’

How has the Democrat Party fixed fracked the economy?

Dems still control the WH and Senate. Can't lay it all at the feet of the GOP.

Granted, both parties deserve a ****load of blame, because over the past 60 years both have acted with fiscal irresponsibility. However, the budgets of the most recent administration have gone beyond the pale, racking up over 1 Trillion in debt annually... that has to stop. I don't care who stops it, but it has to stop before it ruins us all.

It took 30 years to break the economy to the point we have broken it. It is inherently unfair to expect any one to fix it in 6 months, or even 2 years. All these pie in the sky, easy fix solutions are all doomed to fail. It's going to be hard, and it's going to be slow. Whether any one in the government contributes to actually fixing the economy remains to be seen, and we probably won't even know until they are long out of government.

This Congress hasn't passed a budget yet. The economy is still very much Obama's, Pelosi's and Reid's. Let's try this again next year.

Indeed and stopping the run away spending is the first step.

How has the Democrat Party fixed fracked the economy?.

You mean with or without a near constant filibuster threat from the republicans.. Making it so a super majority is required to pass anything..

Who was it that demanded the extension of the tax cuts for the rich?? Who was it that demanded those extensions in order to pass unemployment benefits?? Is it fixing the economy to demand that the rich get tax cuts or those that lost their jobs due to the republican economy get no benefits??

Care to rephrase your questions?? When there is a time that demacrats can work with a republican party that is actually willing to negotiate and not put this nation in the crapper in the process.. Then and only then will you have ability to question the democrats..

Where is our public option?? Where is all the stimulus that we wanted?? Where is the spending on infrustructure.. Ask the republicans.. They are the only ones that are killing the economy..

Wrong again.. This is the same economy left by Bush.. You republicans have blocked the dems attempts to fix it.. Why haven't the tax cuts for the rich expired?? We dems wanted them to.. But they were extended.. So do call this Obama's, Pelosi's, and Reid's economy.. The $320 billion we lose due to those tax cuts is all republican.. Chasing your tails when it comes the medicare and Social security is all republicans.. You do know that SS and Medicare are paid with a seperate income tax?? So They not really part of the budget.. Yet for some reason you all are blaming them for the debt and deficit.. How bout the $320 billion due to the tax cuts and the over $500 billion a year to defense??

Oh you mean the needless subsidies and the tax credits to billionares and companies?? That spending?? $320 billion a year on tax cuts that should now be over?? Bush gave those tax cuts cause there was a surplus.. Well.. The surplus is gone.. When can we take the tax cuts back??

Both parties are responsible for the economy. Neither side has done anything to fix it. Yesterday everyone pointed fingers at Bush today everyone points fingers at Obama. It's both sides and if they continue to bicker over eveery little thing nothing will be accomplished and well it will continue to get worse.

If that's true, then the dems have been very ineffective.

Tax cuts and spending are two different things. One side isn't interested in taking in more money and one isn't interested in whether or not it's there to spend.

What exactly is going to change? What brilliant ideas have you seen from the GOP that have eluded the rest of us?

They've put through a lot of helpful bills so far, like the one to repeal Obamacare which would add hundreds of billions to the deficit. Good work GOP.

Removing or Reducing the Parasite..........will always help the Host Organism.

How has the hardline position against raising taxes during a historical period of low taxes, benefited job creation?

Do you somehow believe that governemnt stealing MORE MONEY from Employers and Consumers would help job creation?

Where are the results? The GOP has succeeded in keeping taxes low and pushing the Democrats to make spending cuts. Where are the benefits?

Your grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren's money has yet to be spent........although Obama still has a year and a half to go.....

Republicans deserve no medals........but Stopping the Obama agenda.....perhaps the best thing for the economy........is one of the few things Republicans deserve credit for......

So you are against all taxation? Calling it STEALING is over the top hyperbole and a gross distortion of your role as a citizen. And speaking of you as a free citizen who can live anywhere you chose to....Why do you continue to then play the victim and walk down the same alley knowing you are getting mugged or stolen from every day?

actually it appears as if obamacare is going to be an endless pit from which money is sucked down

If that's true, then the dems have been very ineffective.

They have been very ineffective.

However, if Republicans were so great at the economy in the first place, Obama never would have gotten elected. So many people seem to miss that.

Lets look at some facts here..

When the GOP "revolution" first started (as claimed by the GOP), in 1980 when Reagan took office the nominal deficit was 73.8 billion dollars and the national debt was 907 billion. Remember these are nominal figures not adjusted for inflation... that would be too painful to look at.

Over the next 12 years till the first Democratic president since Reagan, there was a deficit every year and with the exception of 1981 and 1982, the deficit in nominal dollars was over 150+ billion each year. The debt in the same period went from the 907 billion to about 4 trillion. Yes in most if not all those years it was a democratic congress but who is it exactly that submits the budget and signs? Who has veto right over it (if he had the balls)? And this is the GOP hero...Mr deficit, Mr tax raiser, Mr expansion of the public sector... not exactly "conservative" values is it..

Okay then a Democratic president took over with a 4 trillion dollar debt and a nominal 290 billion deficit. By the time he left office 8 years later it was a 236 billion surplus and out of his 8 years the deficit declined each year and ending in a surplus the last 3. Yes half of those years it was a Republican controlled congress, but the biggest chunk of decline in the deficit had already been done by that time... 290 to 107 billion. Sadly the surpluses in the end could not help the debt rising from 4 trillion to 5.4 trillion but still no where near Reagan's 300% rise over 8 years.

Then Bush Jr. takes over.. and the 236 billion surplus goes poof in under 2 years, and goes into a massive nominal deficit, larger than what even Reagan accomplished.. all under a super majority in American politics... House and Senate and White House under GOP control for the first 4 years. The debt went from 5.4 trillion to 11 trillion by the time Bush left office... almost 200% rise over 8 years, with 4 of those years with GOP congress.... One would have thought that because they are the GOP, have full control of the political spectrum, then they would have cut cut cut and balanced the budget!... oh no... they did the opposite... bugger.

And the Obama takes over, with a 1.4 trillion dollar deficit... and of course the GOP blames the Democrats for that..... and now with GOP control of the House, the GOP of course blames the Democrats for not fixing the economy, despite the GOP being the party of NO.

In other words.. the GOP = a bunch of hypocrites.

So you are against all taxation?

No.....

Calling it STEALING is over the top hyperbole and a gross distortion of your role as a citizen.

Yes of course......"paying taxes is patriotic".....and having government seize the fruits of your labor before you can buy food, provide shelter, or provide for your family is what freedom is all about isnt it?

The role of a citizen defined by liberals...... is where the Governemnt eats first......and the Citizen second.....if at all.

And speaking of you as a free citizen who can live anywhere you chose to....Why do you continue to then play the victim and walk down the same alley knowing you are getting mugged or stolen from every day?

Yes I can live anywhere I want to in the United Plantation States of America.........

........but the overreaching hand of the Federal government knows no boundaries or limits.........

Lets look at some facts here..

....aside from your "fact" that presidents are all powerful all controlling Gawds.......

Did the role and control of Congress have anything to do with our debt?

Specifically, did the role and control of The House of Representatives, where all spending originates.........have anything to do with our debts and deficits?

I agree. Let us start with Wall Street.

........but the overreaching hand of the Federal government knows no boundaries or limits.........

The GOP says limited government and then resides over massive expansion in government. Get real.

You do love your over the top hyperbole. Do you know of any cases in current USA where the tax rate is so terrible that it prevents people from putting food on the table or providing shelter for a family?

That last bit about who eats first ....... does that even make sense to you because its like a combination of Bizarro World and the Twilight Zone being annexed by Wonderland to me? It just makes no sense on any level at all. can you explain it.... real slow .... and without the hyperbole please?

Yep. Lots of places where it prevents someone from expanding their business and hiring 1 to 4 more people. How about those people's families, they count?
