(Ottumwa, Iowa) President Obama....
"This law that just passed in Arizona, which I think is a poorly conceived law. You can try to make it really tough on people who look like illegal immigrants. You can imagine if you are a Hispanic American in Arizona and your great-great grandfather may have been there even before Arizona was a state? If you didn't have your papers and you took your kids out for ice cream, you could be harassed."

Is it just me or does this man have a real problem with policemen? It says in the AZ law that they CANNOT just ask for someone's proof of citizenship just because of how they look.

Why is he lying? Is he just stupid or does he think we're stupid?

He doesn't think "we're" stupid, he just knows many of those that voted for him are easily... fooled. The law merely backstops the Federal Law, and gives the police legal authority and cover to ask certain questions in the course of their duties.

Sadly, too many people don't stop to think, they just react based on what they are told to react too. The Obama Regime cannot operate honestly, their supporters care not about the truth.

The law states that ethnic appearance cannot be the only factor in making a lawful contact. However, it will be a factor, which the President pointed out, which is true. So I guess that makes you the dishonest one here. ;)

That is not to say that I disagree with the law, just pointing out reality. Also, how can you be a libertarian, and support giving state and local governments this kind of authority? I am cool with it, because I think this requires so drastic measures, but how could someone that "lean's libertarian" be so cool with giving the government not just an inch, but a mile.

Is this true about the law?

The law, which proponents and critics alike said was the broadest and strictest immigration measure in generations, would make the failure to carry immigration documents a crime and give the police broad power to detain anyone suspected of being in the country illegally. Opponents have called it an open invitation for harassment and discrimination against Hispanics regardless of their citizenship status.

He's implying that it IS the only factor. He is telling Hispanics to not go out for frickin' ice cream with their kids because the cops would harass them. Good God!

I think he seriously has a problem with the police. I wonder where that stems from...

If it is a factor, how will we know it wasn't the factor that led to stopping someone?

Stop twisting his/her words. The clear implication is that race or ethnicity is the ONLY factor, when the law obviously states that it is NOT the ONLY factor, hence, your messiah is lying. Just admit it. Why is it so hard for you to admit that, maybe, just maybe, Barack Obama is capable of being dishonest?

How do we know if it's ever the factor in stopping someone for anything? That's not the point. The law says they CANNOT do that. Obama is a liar, just like when he stupidly said that doctors cut off people's feet just to get extra money.

I doubt he believes he is lying. Humans have a great propensity for denial.

This is one issue where Obama's “mood music” will no longer pacify the majority of American citizens.

I'll see if I can find the stats, but I would bet than a good portion of the cops in AZ aren't white. If it's a brown-skinned cop who stops someone and asks for proof of legal status, would it still be perceived as racial profiling? I have my doubts.

edit: It's also my understanding that cops will not be able to stop anyone solely to check legal status, but must have other indications that those required to show proof of legal status were doing something suspected of being unlawful.

Yeah...that's what they say. But I wouldn't trust them in the least. As for Obama being a liar. Duh. He's a Chicago politician, you didn't expect something different did you?

The skin color of the police officer doesn't mean he wasn't profiling. And do you know how easy it is to invent other reason? It's done daily now.

Especially given the fact that they can be sued for not enforcing the law to some ambiguous standard that random citizens get to decide. All it will take is one officer driving past a home depot and ignoring a group of day laborers because he's busy doing something else. Some "concerned citizens" will file a suit and now the pressure is on.

Use your head. How else are policemen going to "suspect" an immigrant is illegal. Obviously, this bill promotes (whatever its language says) the use of racial profiling. It is a blatant breach of the 4th Amendment (freedom from unreasonable search), and completely reminds me of the Third Reich 1940's.
Gestapo: You don't have blue eyes and blond hair. Deport him to Aushwitz. Please. This law is an embarrassment to our country

I say create roadblocks for 'safety checks' just like the DUI checkpoints. Then get each ILLEGAL and punt them across the border.

Yeah! Lets just commit mass genocide and kill them all! They deserve it cuz they took ouur jobbss!!!

Seriously? Punt them across the border? Lets take the first step and stop our hatred. Are you going to tell your grandkids, when they ask how you felt about illegal immigration, that you favored "punting them across the border?"

Unfounded. And WTF are you talking about man!?!?? VERRRRRY foolish comments.

Its not hatred at them personally. Its the pure arrogance of breaking OUR laws and stealing OUR tax dollars.

I deny that accusation.

The Arizona law mirrors the U.S. Law so my question to anyone here what is it about the word "illegal" that you do not understand? Someone in this country illegally has broken the law and it is the responsibility of law enforcement to protect and defend the citizens. There is absolutely nothing about this law that is unconstitutional or illegal unless of course you liberals want to define illegal by your own terms and enforce only the laws you deem legal.

If you look hispanic in Arizona, it can be suspected that you are there illegally.

I wonder if the immigrants will dye their hair blonde in response.

I notice you completely avoided answering Southern Democrat's question, so I'll quote it for you again:

"but how could someone that "lean's libertarian" be so cool with giving the government not just an inch, but a mile?"

Your contributions make you sound much more like a trad conservative than a libertarian. Is there something you're not telling us?
