God rest ye merry hypocrites

Don't care what the penis is made out of, I ain't eatin' it. In fact, I even refuse to smoke the finest doobage out of this!

I used to have a vulva-shaped pipe made of the same material. Was quite the conversation starter.

You know, my better nature is nagging me, and I feel obligated to point out that the OP hasn't been in this thread since about page 4.

And, all teasing aside, the tangled histories of these symbols takes NOTHING from their value to those who ascribe meaning to them.

Flaja, you can have your crucifixion symbol, and the pagans can have their yule tree, and I can keep a pink tree because I like having a pink sparkly in my living room (no, I'm not joking about my tree being pink).

We each can take away what we want from these traditions.

Now, back to chocolate penises.

I'm eagerly anticipating Flaja's return where she discovered that her holy thread has turned into a discussion of Jesus's nether-regions.

Well, we know he's been at DP today...

Yeah, I think that was about the time of his last post.

(btw, is flaja male or female? If female, I've been reading flaja's posts with entirely the wrong mental inflection.)

flaja claims to be a male... is all I'm sayin. ;)

Actually it most likely would hurt.

Unsolicited proselytizing only helps foster a culture of contempt, regardless of what belief system is being proselytized.

So the real story of Christmas breeds contempt. How far we have sunk.

The real story? Oh come on the story of Christmas is an amalgamation of so many different myths there is no central delineation of the story.

What, precisely is the "real" story of Christmas? It's been 2,000 years, and the accounts differ. Eyewitnesses on the ground are sketchy if not non-existent. The story about the stars and the tax by Caesar aren't substantiated by non-biblical sources. The real story of Christmas is like a game of telephone at this point.

Most of us are culturally literate enough that we've already encountered the "why we should be saved" argument, as well as the mythology behind Christmas.

In my own case, I was raised Catholic. As I grew up, I found that I had many problems with that religion's basic tenets and common practices, and that the whole idea of a personified god did not stand up to logical examination. I moved on.

Your experience with religion was evidently different. And that's just fine. I'm totally willing to let you go about your life with your beliefs.

I and other agnostics and atheists would like the same respect.

I'm bothered that this thread is improperly punctuated. It should read:

God rest ye merry, hypocrites.

Well, on your terms, I suppose it can't be explained because of the lack of telephones back then.

I find it odd that there are a lot of atheists and agnostics on the religion forum.;)
