Imagine being a cop.....and NOT knowing if a cell phone is a gun or not.

That is pretty cool and I would be lying if I said I didn't want one. Apparently it still appears to be a gun in an X-ray so I don't think it should be illegal.

Not inherently good or bad, comes down to the person using it.

Then we will have more dead people. And the Officer will be fully justified.

Good idea? - Great idea..
Dangerous idea? - It's a gun, it's supposed to be dangerous, that's the point..
I want one? - No not really, it's a girly thing IMO.. $395 for a 2 shot pop gun? Nope..
Should be completely illegal? - :doh

Terrible idea. The ATF shouldn't allow this to be produced.
The ATF shouldn't even exist. And frankly, it's a gun, people need to get over themselves. It is a small caliber two shooter, it's a modern Derringer, nothing to see here.

It's a gun designed to look like an innocuous item. It's introduction into circulation will serve to make police more weary, and it will give an advantage to criminals. Can you see any legitimate need of this that couldn't be satisfied by a normal handgun?

Big ****ing whoop. There are plenty of concealed weapons that do exactly that. No one cares about how scared you are of it, I can conceal and unleash a Derringer faster than that because of the mechanism alone.

How many witnesses to incidents will die from pulling out their cellphone to film what's going on, and drawing fire because it's assumed to be a gun?

This enters that gray zone. On one hand you can say that the cellphone gun is designed to keep it hidden which is exactly what the small derringer is designed for.

But with episodes of someone getting shot because they were holding a realistic looking toy gun it is not hard to foresee some difficult problems for law enforcement.

Since we do have small pistols and holsters for carrying them concealed I really don't see any need for this product. It is as about useful as a ceramic pistol for society.

From what I have seen of the firearm one has to first produce it and then open it up, that many steps will ultimately negate it's defensive and offensive effectiveness. In a gunfight every millisecond counts. Now, as to police being concerned, I would suggest they study the device and learn how it is used, those steps would be crucial to understanding whether the device in hand is a phone or concealed firearm.

Besides, in a high adrenaline situation when police tell you to drop the contents of your hands, you should do so regardless.
