nicknames are not the same as gender based pronouns. My parents weren't worried about "supporting" me except financially.
They are on the same level. It is still a benign choice that doesn't truly affect anyone else except the person asking for that, and not in any sort of way that causes harm. You keep attempting to make excuses for why this similar to something you experienced, when it isn't.

you have no idea how it effects children long term. I'm not involved enough to generate stats. but the regret for being a transsexual is deep and life altering. I refer to various interviews with trans who are regretful or reversing it.
Nick names arent pronoun. pronouns carry gender ID as us old folks are always old. But i reserve that distinction for speaking to adults (primarily at work) who deserve that business courtesy. I am not beholden when speaking to a boy saying his name is Sue (Johnny Cash)
One has to incorporate positive personality traits. To build self esteem

Yes we do. When they are free to change their name and/or pronouns as they want, there is no reason to believe there would be any negative outcome. You don't get to simply claim something will cause harm without evidence.
The law is the only thing making this political. The teacher is just showing respect for the student.
If any poster repeats that name, the Administration might come in and deport that poster. And shave their head on national TV.

I just thought about how with my two sons, one we have been using a common nickname for him since birth, with his dad using a less common nickname as well. The other, his dad is the only one in the family who uses a common nickname for him rather than his full first name (generally because I'm not comfortable calling him by my dad's name). He'll answer to either his full first name or his nickname. But I found out while volunteering at his school a few times that some of his teachers and classmates call him by his initials. I think its because he introduces himself to everyone using his first and last name. I'm fine with that and see it as one of the few things he can choose for himself, agree to for himself without needing our approval. He shouldn't need our permission for something like that at all. Just like the other son shouldn't need our permission to go by some other name, including if he wanted to his preferred online handle.
It should be up to the kid first, unless it would be harmful, like clearly someone trying to tease a kid and they don't see it. Then you should discuss it. But if a kid wants something else that their parents don't want them called, the kid's decision, particularly a teen's should take precedent.
