I think they were fighting after Zimmerman chased him down then tackled the kid; the kid fought back (rightly so) and then as Zimmerman starts to lose that fight, he pulls his handgun and shots the kid in the chest. I am interested to hear the details after April 10th.

28 year old pudgy Zimmerman ran down 17 year old football player Martin? Yes, that makes sense. In what I see as lynch mob mentality.

Yes, a real hero. He harasses people just walking through the neighborhood, and in this case chases a minor, fights with him, and shots a kid armed with just candy. Maybe Zimmerman was diabetic and he felt threatened by the candy.

I think you are right about all that. I carried a weapon just today (Glock 26), and I think Zimmerman was totally in the wrong (based on info I have so far).

people have no idea how accurate they are. I have shot in glock competitions with the 26 and beaten the entire field of 60 or so shooters-most of whom are shooting the full sized 17 or 22's and some using the target grade 34 and 35 models.

Amazing how this is still being debated.
Zimmerman is well protected in a enclosed vehicle that could accelerate faster than any human runner plus he is armed with a pistol.
Martin is protected only by his clothing and a bag of Skittles.

This kid didn't have a chance.
Zimmerman will get to play Barney Fife again in prison, only this time he won't have a gun. This guy if sent to prison is going to have some major buttkicking waiting him.

That is what has been reported.
The accuracy of said reports - I have no idea?
But that is my understanding.
It also appears as though Zimmerman shot Martin when he himself was was on the ground on his back.
This would be consistent with a witness's 911 call that one man was laying on-top of another, as well as other evidence.

Zimmerman only said Martin was "a guy." At 0.30 - the police ask his race. Martin says I he thinks he's black. Says Martin is coming towards him, hand in his waist band, has something in his hand, then Martin running away...

Zimmerman didn't even identify Martin by race until asked, and then at first he was not certain. Doesn't sound like stalking African-Americans to me.

BTW, did it really end that abuptive - or has the tailend been cut off??? I don't hear a bye or a hangup.

this whole incident makes me sad, and makes the fears of black youth seem....real and understandable.

what does a black mother or father tell their teenage son about this?

honestly, this is what its come to. a black kid wearing a hooded sweatshirt in a suburban neighborhood, can be suspected of being a criminal, and end up getting shot & killed by a possibly bigoted but definitely over-zealous & aggressive wanna-be cop.

he told them he was pursuing Martin, and the police told him "we don't need you to do that".

yes, they should have reinforced this. but they didn't, and now a nice boy is dead.

I bet the cops worry about their responsibility in this case.

Few things are apparent. However, again, the girlfriend recounting what Martin was saying matters greatly. According to her, that phone call continued until the violence (but not gunshot) occurred. Martin never mentioned a gun.

I will agree if a 17 year old male football player rushed you, hitting you in the gback of the head knocking you down, then kicked you in the head while trying to get that gun that fell out of your purse, you could point the gun at him and use deadly force to protect yourself.

But, again, the girlfriends' statement contradicts that Zimmerman had pointed a gun at Martin.

You keep making that claim just as much as you keep refusing to corroborate it. Where did you get your information that Martin was kicking Zimmerman in the head?

I have a Glock 19 also. Both are Gen 4's and they both just came back from Glock recently. The ejectors were replaced on them (apparently a problem with Gen 4's). They have redesigned ejectors that they will replace for free. I found that out on a Glock forum. Great guns though.

Anyway, back to this thread: Zimmerman is giving other gun owners a bad name in some people's eyes. I really hope he does some serious jail time for 2nd degree murder. There is no reason for what he did.

Did that not stop shortly after the operator told him that hey didn't need him to do that at 1:59?

The kid was not running away screaming for help.
Has there been a witness who has identified who was screaming for help?
It has been reported that Zimmerman was screaming, or yelling for help though, and that he didn't know why no one responded.

Tell me if you will; How does one get shot in the chest running away?

According to the police report issued, the only exact statement Zimmerman said was "I was yelling for someone to help me, but no one would help me" in quotes.

Yet for pages of this thread and even reported in the media, it was declared to be Martin shouting for help, just like it claimed over and over that Martin was running away - falsely.

There has been SOO much wrong, selective and disinformation, that an actual discussion of what actually happened or as least as is known is all but impossible.

I DO recall my being ridiculed on this thread for questioning the "truism" of Martin running away and Martin shouting for help - as just two examples.

the double springs were problematic and were replaced. also armorers were not told of certain subtle trigger changes meaning when armorers tried to lighten the trigger pull on Gen 4 17s or 19's they would jam up.

I believe he is going to be found guilty of something-perhaps manslaughter
