“‘There but for the grace of God go I,’ we say to ourselves, and so we contribute to programs like Medicare and Social Security, which guarantee us health care and a measure of basic income after a lifetime of hard work; unemployment insurance, which protects us against unexpected job loss; and Medicaid, which provides care for millions of seniors in nursing homes, poor children, and those with disabilities,” Obama said. “We are a better country because of these commitments. I’ll go further – we would not be a great country without those commitments.”[/I]
Do you agree that we wouldn't be a great country without SS, Medicare and Medicaid?
You couldn't win in the first thread you made about this subject so you made a second?
Your interpretation of his words as I said before ARE JUST THAT.
The evil liberal socialist Kenyan Tyrant hates America and only thinks its a great nation when it gives things away.
Total. Utter. And. complete. Bull****.
Every single time a president speaks, the opposition grasps for straws. This straw is pretty flimsy.

I'm asking if you agree with Obama's words. No interpretation here. The rest of your post is ridiculous.
Define great.
I think a country can be judged, just like a person, by how "he treats the least of us." I would hate to live in a country that didn't care enough for its poor or its seniors to provide them with the basic necessities of life.
If you don't want to contribute to the thread, don't. Stop this immaturity, lib.
just letting you know reposting this is BORING..........
Well he's exactly right. I don't know how any American wouldn't agree with it 100%. Even cavemen cared for their sick. Being useless to the tribe didn't mean sure death.

Yes, I agree with Obama on the specific social programs he mentions. I think those are basic necessities in a civilized country.

I agree with President Obama and I think the majority of Americans agree with him as well.
This whole dust up is typical of the far right wing. They tried this bull**** with Michelle Obama when Barack announced his candidacy for president, and he kicked their ass good.. It didn' work then and it won't work now.
"For the first time in my adult lifetime, I'm really proud of my country, and not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change."
If Social Security and Medicare were solely focused on caring for those who can't care for themselves, you might have a point. But today they are universal old age pension and healthcare programs that are unsustainable.
Few people object to a basic safety net that cares for those who are truly unable to provide for themselves. But there is a big difference between that and what we presently have.
You mean, when she said this?
She deserved heat for that. That was the first time as an adult she was proud of her country? Wow.
Go ahead PB... spin it so it doesn't 'really' mean that.
She was born in 1964 - meaning adulthood around 1984. What amazing things happened in the United States between 1984 and 2008?
