Cats refuse to connect and are extraordinarily annoying when you want them to leave you alone. Dogs have more respect than that. They also have far more social skills.
So I've noticed a casual link in my life between "dog people" being conservative, and "cat people" being liberal. I thought I'd put it up for a vote.
I'm sorry if there isn't something that describes you - I'm just trying to keep it relatively simple to prove or disprove my basic premise.
I'm a cat person, and a liberal. I like dogs well enough, I just prefer cats for myself.

Your description of cats is nothing at all like my experiences. I think the problem is with you.
They aren't if you respect them. My cat cuddles me when I'm upset, and has actually tried to attack an intruder into my home. She's tiny (7 pounds full-grown) so obviously she didn't get very far, but it's the thought that counts.
Maybe you just don't understand cats.

I never had a cat alone, that is, without a dog also in the house. I wonder if the more extroverted nature of dogs makes the cats less sociable.
No, I've had experiences with several cats. They are all the same. No social skills, annoying, not connectable. And I'm not hearing anything different from those who like cats. Independent is just "catspeak" for no social skills.
No, I understand cats. And with that understanding, I don't like them.
Mostly conservative. I like both. Personally I prefer cats, though I acknowlege that dogs are actually more useful.
Not true. They also make for some excellent target practice. The only thing cats are good for are ground up and put in dog food.
Interesting. So far there doesn't seem to be any correlation between liberalism and preference for dogs or cats, but a strong correlation between conservatism and preferring dogs.
But it's not a big enough sample size to judge yet. More votes!
When I had surgery on my neck, my cat spent the next week constantly in reach, usually curled up next to me in bed, purring. She knew I was hurting and did her part to try and make me feel better. This is normal behavior for a cat. Independent means if you have to go away for the day, the cat tolerates it and does not spaz out like a dog does.

Little bastards can run like hell if you just get close with the first shot. Makes succeeding shots more of a challenge.
