Democratic Sen. Alex Padilla is forcefully removed from Noem’s news conference and handcuffed

I’m not aware of any video documenting the entirety of the incident being released, so all I can comment is what has been posted in this thread.

Padilla quickly identified himself before being physically removed from the room. Noem said she didn’t know who Padilla is, which is odd, considering the fact that he’s the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, and Border Safety, and she made no effort to stop his being removed, instead pretending like she didn’t see/hear him.

Granted, Padilla should’ve waited until Noem opened the floor to questions, instead of making an ass of himself by abruptly confronting Noem in front of a crowd of reporters.

Had Noem instructed her security detail to immediately release Padilla, before being removed from the room, and asked him to be courteous and wait until she finished speaking and opened the floor to questions (like some politicians have done), she would have come away looking like the adult, but she didn’t.

I amended my statement. He does not say who he is until after he begins physically resisting.

The missing piece from video I've seen is the time between Padilla moving from his seat and the time the Secret Service/FBI moved to block his approach. The complete conference published at post #269 pans at a little less than five minutes from Noem to show the confrontation already under way.

Immediately prior to Padilla standing up and interrupting Noem, Noem said: “We are not going away. We are staying here to liberate the city from the socialists and the burdensome leadership that this governor and that this mayor have placed on this country and what they have tried to insert into the city." She was describing a coup against California and Los Angeles. And this is being said within the context of Trump violating the law by invoking 12406 when a rebellion does not exist.

Padilla was not in the wrong. Noem was. Trump was.

It's not the first time a dumbass MAGA person has quoted from the BB thinking it's real. That tells you just how hyperbolic the "news" sites they frequent are - they can't tell the difference. OAN, Gateway Pundit, Instapundit, Twitchy, Doug Ross, Daily Caller are just the tip of a huge right wing media ecosphere that dominates AM and FM talk radio, TV and the internet. It's hard to break out of that forest to breathe fresh air.

The head of ICE said the same thing... Trump was voted in on Dealing with Illegal Immigration and that is what he is doing. They aren't going anywhere and if anything, it will get worse for Illegal Immigrants. Los Angeles and California are run by idiots. I lived there and it has only gotten worse.

That's not how our government works in the U.S. It's not for Noem or Trump to decide who governs L.A. or California.
 
I was just thinking, if it was a mistake and they did not recognize him as a Senator, what Noem and the Trump administration could do is simply apologize to him. That seems reasonable, doesn't it? But they won't do it, will they?

Not a word from Padilla about it during his press statement immediately following the incident. And it seems that only Padilla is allowed to interrupt press conferences to ask questions. Transcript from C-SPAN:

Irrelevant. He is already targeted as a threat and the LEO's are to remove threats and find out what is going on. He is already being physically removed and he is physically resisting as he says, "sir, sir" and somebody says "hands up" AND THEN he says he is a Senator.

Apologize for what? If you or I had done what he did people would be applauding LEO's for removing a disruptive person. He is just a person. Senators are not better people. We all have rights and we can all be held accountable for crossing lines.

Correct. But arresting politicians that break the law is ho the government works.

Why do you defend a system that protects illegal immigration, tax fraud, illegal hiring practices, etc?

And when Padilla did identify him, Noem should’ve directed those LEO’s to release Padilla instead of pretending like she didn’t see/hear him.

Padilla made an ass of himself, and Noem failed to do what she should’ve done.

Maybe she did. Privately. During the meeting facilitated by the Secret Service/FBI who wrestled him out of the room. Wouldn't we like to know what they said to each other.

But I'm glad you asked the question because in replying to your post at #882 I did not respond to:

I didn't respond because the only part of the comment I disagree with is your use of the word "coup." Civil authority still governs the state and the city. The courts are still up and functioning. The military is protecting federal property and ICE agents as they perform their statutory duties. Any person they might detain is turned over to local or federal law enforcement and not held for a military tribunal.

The federalization of the National Guard and the deployment of active duty forces is a statutory and constitutional dispute now on appeal. (To be heard this Tuesday.)

Are the state and city governments able to enforce the law and maintain order? Did the governor request federal assistance as required by statute? The appeals process and decision may well be the most significant result arising from this mess.
