Democrat urges unions to 'get a little bloody when necessary'
By Michael O'Brien - 02/23/11 07:57 AM ET

Sometimes it’s necessary to get out on the streets and “get a little bloody,” a Massachusetts Democrat said Tuesday in reference to labor battles in Wisconsin.

Rep. Michael Capuano (D-Mass.) fired up a group of union members in Boston with a speech urging them to work down in the trenches to fend off limits to workers’ rights like those proposed in Wisconsin.

“I’m proud to be here with people who understand that it’s more than just sending an email to get you going,” Capuano said, according to the Statehouse News. “Every once and awhile you need to get out on the streets and get a little bloody when necessary.”

Video Update on the Democrat Who Said,

I saw the video on Fox News this morning. He has since apologized. It's still not as bad as using crosshairs on a blue/red election map. (snicker)

NationalJournal.com - Capuano Apologizes for Encouraging Union Supporters to Get 'Bloody' - Thursday, February 24, 2011

His apology is useless... He made that call for violence in front of a live audience, which is the same place he should have retracted it.

He meant exactly what he said... You know it... I know it... EVERYONE, whether they admit it or not, knows it too.

How are this bozos comments any different than the Repub who mentioned '2nd amendment solutions' or however she phrased it?

I await the deafening wall of silence from the liberals here on this one.

Do you really believe that was a call for violence? He was talking about what had already been done, which was non-violent. Sometimes folks work to hard to make something it isn't. And yes, both sides do that.

Do you live in an alternative universe or something? You have just demonstrated the inherent dishonesty that goes hand in hand with the liberal agenda my friend, by twisting the mans words, and completely ignoring that the man himself apologized for his call for violence...

My God you people are dishonest.

Speaking of dishonesty, as best I can tell, that's not exactly what he did. From your link:

“I strongly believe in standing up for worker rights and my passion for preserving those rights may have gotten the best of me yesterday in an unscripted speech,” he said in a statement. “I wish I had used different language to express my passion and I regret my choice of words.”

He did not say he was sorry he called for violence. No where does he ever say he called for violence. And listening to him, you really have to work at it to see what he said as a call for violence.

What's violent about that? LMMFAO

Yeah, protest, be involved as opposed to sitting at home. Remember, he's congradulating them on what they've already done. But keeping working at ignoring the context and making believe. :coffeepap

Spin it all you like... It's what we expect from you...

But it doesn't change the FACT that what he said was a public advocation for protesters to engage in violent confrontations. That's what it was and you damned well know it.

Factually, he did not say that. That's is you spinning, trying to make it something not said.

Funny, that's exactly what Sarah Palin means when she tells the tea party "Don't retreat, reload"

Video Update on the Democrat Who Said,
This is beyond stupid, sure he might have chosen the wrong words, but he sure wasn't asking for violence. It obviously was his way of saying "don't back down" or "stick with it" it was a metaphor. It seems like you, Glenn Beck, Newsbusters and probably many more on the right are grasping for strays and coming up empty handed.

Yesterday, the prank "David Koch" suggested to Gov. Walker about sending in trouble makers into Madison and the Gov. said they had considered it. Do you have any comments about that???? :2wave:

Video Update on the Democrat Who Said,

When someone says its time to get our hands dirty, do you think they are literally talking about dirt? Its just a strongly worded statement but I think its a bit too far to think he meant people should literally get bloody. Why? Because I don't think anyone, including you, would agree that someone trying to push a certain political policy thinks than literally bloodying the opposition is the best way to do it.

I don't believe I've ever argued she actually wanted violence. I don't believe anyone actually does. Well, maybe Beck. He's a little out there. ;)

Its the same thing, people who think she literally meant to shoot opposition need a partisan readjustment.

I could not agree with you more. It's unfortunate that "the other side" (and we're all part of "the other side" at one time or another) can't resist gotcha' moments. The one thing that would turn the public completely and utterly against the union stance would be their instigating violence. They know that. We all know that. So does what's'isname.

So the crosshairs don't count because it's a metaphor but this is definitely to be taken literally because...

...

um...

Well as soon as they invent a time machine, I'm sure he will get right on it.

Until then, every conservative who made a stupid remark and didn't immediately think to recant it must be equally as guilty.

I think he was using common metaphor and allusions routinely used throughout our society.

Sadly its the same type that many on the left ignorantly tried to suggest were "calls for violence" or "violent rhetoric" during the whole Arizona thing.

It was stupid by them to do it then, it was stupid for anyone on the right to be honestly doing it now. It is I think worth while to point out the irony however of the uproar about "Violent rhetoric" and taking it literally a few weeks ago and the rationalization of this as being "not an honest serious call for violence".

Of course some of us where pointing out that it was indeed stupid to blame political rhetoric for the Arizona shooting. Don't go forgetting that. Some people use anything for political ammunition, but that is hardly partisan as both sides have people who do it. We should, as you did, condemn any one who does it...but don't forget that those who do it are really the minority.

Come on people... I mean, get real.

It's not like he said "If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun," or anything, right? I mean, what politician in their right mind would say something that violent, right?

Even if these are relatively common sayings, these is a real problem with using this kind of rhetoric in an attempt to "fire" people up.

A lot of people are ****ing idiots. And some of those ****ing idiots are also ****ing crazy.

When you "fire" up a crazy ****ing idiot using violence-laden metaphors, they have the potential of doing some crazy, idiotic and violent.

Not only that, but it degrades the level of discourse in the country. It's unnecesary emotionally-charged bull**** that doesn't do anything truly productive. It's a sign that we are well and truly ****ed if we don't get our heads out of our asses.

But there's generally no outrage about it. But God forbid a politician says the above sentence in public. It has curse words in it.
