Internet Shock: Couple Lets You Vote on Whether They Get an Abortion | The Blaze

Despite interviewing the couple, Gawker is still skeptical. It lays out three possibilities:

1. It’s is an idiotic prank. Pete and Alisha are intent on becoming famous any way they can, and they’ve hit on an outrageous way to get media coverage. But if this all was a prank, wouldn’t they have gotten the word out before now? They’ve been blogging since September.

2. This is a pro-life stunt. Pete said he’s a non-practicing Catholic, while Alisha is a Methodist. Although the Arnolds describe themselves as political independents with Libertarian leanings, Alisha likes Glenn Beck on Facebook, and a Google search turns up an old pro-Bush comment Pete made on CNN. (Pete said he voted for Bush in 2000, but not in 2004.) Could this site be a confused parable to illustrate the peril of putting an unborn baby’s life in the hands of voters?

3. It’s true. Pete and Alisha are actually going to choose to have an abortion based on an Internet poll.

Whichever it is, it's DISGUSTING. :2mad:

Why? Is it worse than them just aborting anyways if they did after an interweb poll? Wound't you seek advice if going through an abortion? (yes, even beyond counselors, etc. I realise it's not professional help)

I don't understand the point of what they're doing. It's perfectly obvious they don't want to have an abortion.

What a pair of weirdoes. I feel sorry for their future kid.

That's actually a good point. I still find this kinda creepy, though. If I were facing a difficult decision like this, I think I would seek out opinions from those I trusted and respected, rather than anonymous opinions.

If this is true, then I think it's irresponsible of them to leave a decision like this up to an internet vote. That being said, it's their decision, and if they choose to make the decision based on this, then that's their right.

I'm betting it's some sort of publicity stunt or prank though.

What do you tell the kid if the poll says don't abort? How can you trust a parent that thought about killing you?

I agree, it is a good point. We also have to factor in how absorbed many people are by the internet and global virtual world of the internet, blogs, myspace, twitter, craigslist, debate sites, etc. It isn't real, but it is... Even I have listened to the opinions of certain "friends" here at DP, though I don't know what they look like nor their real names. I am reasonable and take it all with a grain of salt, but I am almost 40 and I see so many young people just addicted to their phones and myspace and facebook. They can't go for ten minutes wtihout having to check their phone. My point is that to these people, perhaps this is a legitimate idea. I seriously bet that others have asked advice on wikianswers and chat sites from people that they don't know, this one is just a little more extreme because it is a poll.

I voted that they should have an abortion. These people should not be reproducing.

Agreed. It says they have had three pregnancies that ended in miscarriage so it makes no sense. If they wind up having a child, imagine when that child is old enough to 'discover' the stunt their dumbass parents came up with.

Too bad people don't have to have a license to have children. Just proves any dumbass can conceive and birth a child... but not everyone is cut out to be a parent.

Sick.

I do find this ridiculous, but I think it's funny so many pro-life people are outraged by this. They get to do exactly what they want: decide what people they don't even know do with a private medical decision that won't affect them.

Couple never intended to have an abortion. I live in Minneapolis, and I give our local independent paper the City Pages a lot of credit for their work on this issue. Here's the City Pages blog about it if you want to read it.

This is very Andrew Breitbart. There are many young conservatives who pull these stunts to "raise awareness" of their issues. I think they really need to reconsider whether or not the ends justify the means, and if they really are right about the issue, why do they need to resort to such absurd means to make their point? This man constantly condemns people who choose to have an abortion, and do you really think that he's the sort of person who should be judging people? Obviously not.

1. I "like" plenty of socialists and communists on FB just to debate with them. "/

2. Conservatives are typically against abortion.

3. If this is a pro-life stunt, it's a damned stupid one.

4. Even then, I suspect liberals would defend such actions. If they were liberals then no problem; regardless, they still do things liberals are for. Liberals are for abortion, so they undoubtedly would have no problem if someone hinged their abortion on a vote. Regardless, it is all nonsense.

I doubt many would. I think that they have the right to base their decision on an internet vote if they want to, but I think that actually doing so is extremely stupid. I support abortion being legal, but I don't think people should get them for trivial reasons.

I'm a liberal. I don't really appreciate us being lumped together as if we're not individuals. I can only speak for myself: If this were real, I would say these people are idiots. You make important decisions for yourself. We don't know what these strangers would be like as parents or how prepared they are to raise a child, so what are we supposed to contribute to this decision? You don't ask people you don't know for their opinions on personal important matters, and you don't dick around delaying something as time-sensitive as an abortion to wait for the results.

The site is a hoax. A pro-lifer started it.

In any case, if it's not a hoax, I am pro-choice, and that does not mean I am pro-abortion.

However, I voted for them to abort, based on the logic that anyone so stupid as to put their child's life up to a public referendum is not worthy of having children.
