Here's a hypothetical: if Bush were to come out of hiding and announce his support for re-opening the gov't and raising the debt ceiling, would that have any effect?
Or do Dems and Repubs equally loathe him and it wouldn't make a difference?

Why would GWB do anything to save Obama's ass, the guy who's blamed every one of his multitudinous failures on Bush?

Because Bush gets it. For all their differences, former Presidents understand the pressures of the office like no one else can. Compare his public comments on Obama to Cheney's or Rumsfeld's. He's been downright sympathetic.
I imagine him being a startling persona to interrupt this impasse because he's kind of a common enemy to each side. By pointing out how dumb this situation is and how it never happened to him might jolt some ideologues.

I respect GWB a lot, as a President and as a man. I can't think of one "impass" Bush had with congress in his 8 years that didn't get solved either by Bush finding a way or Bush withdrawing the initiative. That's what leaders do, they lead.

I find it entertaining that you think it would "save Obama's ass".
The GOP made a huge mistake and is paying the price. Will pay dearly in 13 months.
If the GOP fails to find a way to crawl out of their failed extortion tactics, it will only benefit Obama and Democrats.
I think even if the GOP does crawl out, they have already doomed themselves.
It would be useless. The tea party faction are True Believers who only put stock in those who march with them and embrace their whack job zealotry. .

You haven't seen Obama's numbers. Have you?

Bush couldn't even spell impasse.
It's funny as hell to see Libbos make these criticisms of the Tea Party.
