Canada National Dental Care Program

I don't know much how legislations are passed.
When is the supposed target date for the program to become available?
It gets voted in the House, rubber stamped by the Senate, signed by the GG. We're talking a few weeks and we're good to go.

I'll believe it when I see it.
Will it be mandatory for all dentists?
I asked because while talking to someone working in a dental office a couple of months back - I mentioned dental benefits - and she said they don't accept government benefits of any kind.
I asked why. She said, the government gives so little that they can't just afford to do it.

Sure, they can announce all the benefits they offer.
But, what good would be those benefits if they're not honored.

I am a senior, I already get my meds covered (less the deductable), and I get free eye exams once a year, so why not dental?

Gotta love our Socialist paradise!!!
It's easy to provide those things when you don't need to invest in a military because you know you have the world's superpower to mooch off.

Trudeau just announced a plan to introduce a national dental care plan. This would start with coverage for people under 18, people with disabilities and seniors.

Thoughts?
How is dental coverage in Canada currently, private insurance?

Hopefully Canada can avoid what's occured in the UK with NHS dental.

Getting on a dentist list is damn near impossible in the UK, most dentist claim there NHS quota is full. I suspect it's the cap on treatments set by the NHS versus what private dental insurance will pay out.

Pethaos one of our UK posters could shed some light.

Uh oh

Yes it's a similiar situation in the UK.

It all comes down to money, like most things in life.

Why are all your rebuttals SO defensive? Could it be because you envy what we have? Or is it simply small-mindedness?

Pointing out that Canada is freeloading off the USA isn't being defensive. It is stating a fact.

"freeloading". Uhuh. Not to worry, we already know your style. Always dripping with snark. Hey, each their own. Canadians typically laugh at easily triggered Americans who get all defensive when something is noted where Canadians have something Americans don't. Like a sense of humor.

It must be embarrassing to know your country's government is a leech. Sponging off the charity of their benevolent neighbor. That must be tough on you.

There you have it folks, more snark. Really impressive debating skills this guy has :ROFLMAO:

Psst, I got better things to do, so you can have the last word, make it juicy ;)

With this program people are given the funds directly and spend it on whatever dental services they want. Dentists continue to be independent.

How is dental coverage in Canada currently, private insurance?
Private insurance if you've got it through employer or private insurance provider. The poor are covered by social services.

I'll believe it when I see it.

The money goes directly to people who qualify. They pay the dentist.

Oh.....so it's not universal. And, the money goes directly to the people.

I've just come back from the dentist. I asked about the government plan that might come. She said, it doesn't work with private dentist (like this dentist).
She explained that it will be dental clinics by the government who will be doing them (never heard of them). You know what dental clinics are?
I thought they're all the same!

Oh.....so it's not universal.
That was obvious in Post 1.

Your dentist is an idiot. There are no 'dental clinics by the government' in Canada and none are planned.

No, it's not obvious!
Your OP says...............national dental care plan.

What your post imply is that it would be universal for those groups mentioned!
I was told at the dental office that some wouldn't qualify (just like subsidy).

National does not equal universal.

Stop talking to your dentist and read the actual Act.

Read the act.

I'm looking at the summary. Nothing mentions SENIORS. Or, people with disabilities.
It's only for children.

SUMMARY

Part 1 enacts the Dental Benefit Act, which provides for the establishment of an application-based interim dental benefit. The benefit provides interim direct financial support for parents for dental care services received by their children under 12 years of age in the period starting in October 2022 and ending in June 2024.

Part 2 enacts the Rental Housing Benefit Act, which provides for the establishment of a one-time rental housing benefit for eligible persons who have paid rent in 2022 for their principal residence and who apply for the benefit.

Finally, Part 3 makes related amendments to the Income Tax Act, the Excise Tax Act and the Excise Act, 2001.

Where is the part that says.............................seniors?
That's what I hear on tv. No one had mentioned seniors.

Sometime ago, there was mention of seniors - but I don't think it's in this particular package that they're going to pass.
Singh had made this into his December red-line (so......he must've trimmed it down...................... to make it easier for Trudeau to act upon)! :ROFLMAO:

Forget seniors! Forget disabled! Just do the children. Please. I'm not ready for an election! I need to support you, Justin!

Depends on Province

Alberta is primarily private. Only in rare instances does the government cover it. My father died on the job, Workers Compensation paid for my dental care until I was 18 or out of school which ever happened last.

Companies provide dental as part of their benefits across Canada, the quality of which varies. Ontario has some dental coverage as I understand it. No idea of the quality

Cause those Afghans were going to invade, or the Iraqis right

We'd rather have healthcare than a large military. You should give it a try.

Freeloaders.

The US protects us from evil space aliens, Afghani and Iraqi invasions.

Why without the US Canada would have been invaded by the largest Muslim navy back in 2004. OSB had it all planned. His navy was in the Hindu Kush mountains, just waiting to set sail

We're pretty good at risk assessment.

Chances of the Afghan Navy overrunning our country: 0%
Chances we'll need healthcare during our lifetimes: 100%

So where should we spend our tax dollars? I'm stumped.
