Can the left and right even converse at this point?

I have a lot of conservatives friends. We used to discuss politics all the time, through Bush, through Obama, but no more. Virtually all of them have unfriended me on Facebook. They are well educated and in the upper class.They act very angrily when we have had discussions. We agree on virtually every issue. Its pointing out that Trump contradicts their own beliefs that makes them mad. They watch Fox News and read the Epoch Times. In truth mostly, they're just intellectually lazy and Trump gives them a buzz.

Yet, back in the day, they did not support Wallace, Trump’s main predecessor. Had he been a Republican, it might have been different.

I did recently have a conversation with a coworker who 100% agrees that our healthcare system is fundamentally broken and we should have a system more like Canada's. He also thinks we should have essentially UBI until COVID has a vaccine rolling out and widely available because "people are struggling and it's not their fault at all."

He has voted straight ticket Republican for decades because he "doesn't support a welfare state like liberals."

I stopped talking politics with that person.

Despite this avowed accommodation, he attacked Russian state-funded media outlet RT for successfully serving as “an antidote to the American English hegemony over the world media system,” and bemoaned how the “cartel” of Western corporate media outlets no longer “have hegemony like they used to.”

Trump has not divided this country. Thats just you repeating what you heard someone else say without engaging your own brain. It wasnt Trump that labeled people who disagreed with him politically as deplorables, racists, fascists, traitors, cultists and idiots. That was the left dividing the country like no one has done before.

For four years democrats have done everything in their power to destroy this administration.. Biden isn't going to fix that. The media was 99% compliciant in the attack on Trump. Big media and democrats deserve nothing from the republicans.

The vast majority of these Repugs support Trump's coup attempt to overturn the election results. They are traitors. They are not Americans. They are enemies of this country. I want nothing to do with them.

The part I like least about most of them is that they lack the traditional qualities that make up strong, independent individuals--resilient, free thinking, generous, brave, resourceful.

They lack character.

Most of these people enjoy whining about being victims. It's just distasteful, especially in light of how entitled they are.
