See context matters here.. Why are there so few Jews in Spain? Because Christian Supremacists kicked them out (or killed them) in 1492. Where did most go? Syria. Why are they not there anymore.. because they immigrated in the early part of the 20th century to especially New York. Why? Poverty and discrimination by the new owners of the area.. France and the UK... and the Suez canal. Took a lot of business out of the more traditional routes and Jews were mostly merchants, so many moved to where business was.
But why are there no more Jews in Syria?
