Reading material he had about white supremacy commented that "Hitler had a point".

Well, from how the article is written he seemed to have conspiracy theorist literature, which in the states is tied up with groups like the militias and christian identity movement. So the fact that such material would also be included in it would be of little surprise.


It's like if I am in egypt and delve into local conspiracy literature I would also be exposed to material about Israeli spy-vultures and the coptic plots to overthrow the state. That doesn't mean i am actively researching it or that it forms the core elements of my world view

Maybe he was a gun right supporter. He may have liked chocolate ice cream too. Absolutely nothing collaborates that either of these traits had absolutely anything to do with the act, though.

Antisemitism (IE. 9/11 was a inside job and Hitler had a point) are trademarks of radical jihadists along with white supremacists. Hell, I remember Ahmadinejad giving that speech a few years back about looking into the jews and 9/11. Of course he may have been a white supremacist in addition to a radical jihadist. They're not exactly distinct from each other.

I realize the OP is obviously trying to make a ridiculous point by comparing mainstream right wing thought with white supremacy, but it seems reckless of the BBC to do similar. None of the literature the article mentions are given any serious consideration by a vast majority of the right-wing.

I wouldn't say that this discredits his infatuation with radical Islam. It just complements it. It sounds like he was just an extreme person who was into extreme and even contradictory ideologies. That isn't surprising for someone who - from reports I've read - may have been developing a mental illness. Even further, from what I've read the right-wing literature he had included conspiracy theories that he apparently believed. It's possible that he just wanted to read more on that and didn't care about the other stuff.

In any case, I wouldn't jump to conclusions about him being a right winger or anything. Had he been found with OWS documents, all the dumb hack conservatives would have concluded that he was a liberal and that would've have been just as a stupid.

Extremist is generally the way to term these people. I always like when 9/11 truther stuff gets thrown out there as an example in these cases as people scream "SEE, THIS PROVES HE'S FROM THE SIDE THAT I'M NOT ON"...of course ignoring that there was a contingent of your extreme left and your extreme libertarian right that both got in on that movement. A lot of times political issues or ideologies are more of a circle then a straight line, with the extreme ends of both finding more common ground with each other than either finds with the middle.
