So here's the deal: I want to grow a beard. For as long as I can remember, my dad has worn a beard (my mother has never seen him without one in the 35+ years she's known him). My younger brother has worn a beard for years. My uncle has worn a beard nearly as long as my dad has. However, my wife hates facial hair, and, since I'm ***** whipped, I cannot grow one.

I'm just curious what people's opinions are here regarding men with facial hair.

I'm a sucker for a goatee and/or 5'o clock shadows and general "scruffiness". hehe

Full beards really just depend on the guy, though. On some guys they look good, on others they do not. Also depends on how full and how well kept it is.

Examples of celebs who look bad with their beards, or just the style of beard is bad:

Examples of nice looking ones:

And even though I think he looks better without a FULL beard, this isn't bad either:

Brad Pitt would do okay if he'd just trim it up a bit. Keanu Reeves has no business growing a beard, though. It looks like his face has the mange.

Viggo Mortensen looks awesome in a beard.

That depends on how you *look* with facial hair.
There's a variety of styles and ways to maintain it, trim it - some look good and some don't.

I personally like beards, but only if they are kept neatly trimmed. Men that can put their beard hair into a ponytail, grosses me out. Like others have said, it depends on the person and how their facial hair comes in and their face shape. Some men just never achieve that even-coverage and others are blessed with even growth patterns.

Regardless, good luck with whatever you decide to do. :)

On a more serious note. My wife loves the way I look with a beard but hates the way it feels during foreplay. Mutton chops would be the best of both worlds, but they look stupid.

Three day stubble with the neck shaved up to the jaw line looks good to me. I don't like big bushy beards though.

Beards are sweet, but only if the person wearing them was born prior to 1960

I'm slowly getting that, I have one gray hair in my goatee.
It looks cool, contrasted with the black.
That guy's beard looks a whole lot like my dad's, except my dad's is trimmed closer. He's been doing the salt-n-pepper thing for a while. I think it's a good look.

I've never been a beard fan, but when i was in Alaska in July, the boyfriend didn't shave for about 10 days. I kind of liked it. But I don't like the gnarly dave grohl style beards.

I can grow a wicked goatee, my wife likes it as long as I keep it shaped up.
Without facial hair, she says I look like a kid.
Thats so weird, because goats have beards.

I love a clean face.. But if one must have hair on the face? Goatee is way to go.

I've always wore a beard or gotee. The only time I shaved was in the military. Now if I screw it up or can't make it to the shop I'll shave and start over. I don't like any of those examples.

This is how I wear my beard.

See.. Maybe I need to re-think my dislike of beards cause that is hot. I do not consider that a beard. It is a trim/fade to the face to me.

I wore a vandyke for years, then i shaved it off with the exception of the stash.
