At least 8 white nationalists are running for federal office (video)

What sound reasons do you have for questioning the validity of statements from the SPLC?

I do not wish to answer for Renae, but for me personally, I do not trust the judgment of the Southern Poverty Law Center for the fact that they labeled Maajid Nawaz, one of the most decent, moderate critics of radical Islam (and himself a British Pakistani Muslim and former Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate) an anti-Muslim extremist. This characterization was utterly nonsensical. The man runs a counter-extremism think tank aimed at stopping young Muslims from joining radical groups and empowering Muslims across the world (mainly in South Asia) to counter extremism in their countries. They only took him off their list when he threatened legal action against them.

I do not give blanket credence to everything the Southern Poverty Law Center puts out. They have essentially become a left-wing John Birch Society. But instead of smearing people who steps slightly outside of their Overton Window a communist or communist sympathizer, they dub them "extremists," if not outright racists when they shoot from the hip.

Now as for these white supremacists who are running, I would wish to know: Have any of them ever run before? Because I remember Arthur Jones, who is a Nazi, ran perennially as the GOP candidate and won because the GOP did not put forward any other people in a Democrat-run district and has lost regularly. But the media only paid attention to him after Donald Trump had entered office as though Trump was somehow responsible for this piece of garbage taking the nomination (because technically anyone can call themselves a Republican or Democrat and run as one even if the party decries or disavows them). In other words, are these new candidates who have never run before? Or is the SPLC just raising a stink over a bunch a racist losers who have run continuously and failed to achieve national office, but are only given attention because Donald Trump magically empowered candidates who were just as awful back before Donald Trump emerged onto the political scene?

Just walk away Renae is my advice.

I posted a good article that lays out how the SPLC went from being a decent group to extremist, if that's not enough for some people, that's on them.

You got a source that doesn't rely on that group?

Yea, its hard to trust a group dedicated to fighting Nazis and White Supremacists -- isn't that the same group that successfully, yet unfairly brought down the largest Klan chapter years ago? Yea, that organization has a history of smearing white nationalists.

I gave you a few names some candidates to google. Have you done any research into them yet?

It's hard to trust a group that has gone from being a useful resource to being partisan hacks.

Idk... maybe the fact that it's insanely biased and has an agenda?

Nope, Just because someone registers as a Republican don't mean ****. Now if say you had a Neo-Nazi backing RNC high profile member, that would be something. Someone that hung out with radical racists and denounced our nations laws (hint hint there is someone very like this, but he's a democrat) I might get excited.

So when Reagan said trust but verify -- you decided not to really do the verify part huh

At least 8 white nationalists running for federal office

MSNBC’s Morgan Radford spoke with white nationalists who are running for federal office this year on the Republican ticket. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, at least eight white nationalists are running, more than ever before.

Tiki torch sales will be booming come November. American Nazi Party, Holocaust deniers, Trump fans. One big happy party.

i want them running just as much as i want the green party and communists running candidates

Can we keep them ALL off the ballots?

Really, pulling out the Reagan card?
Again, I don't really care what the SPLC has to say anymore, they've shown themselves to be hyper partisans along the lines of Media Matters
And unless one of these candidates get's backing from the RNC and get position, who cares, anyone can call themselves a republican, look at Olympia Snow or Susan Collins...

Are 8 white nationalists running for office as republicans or not?

Why do you think they feel they have a better chance running as a republican and not a democrat?

Something tells me if 8 white nationalists were running as Democrats -- conservatives wouldn't be so dismissive of it

At least it would give them something to cling onto besides Robert Byrd.

Oh yeah, never ever ever ever ever ever ever question the SPLC. It's just so wrong to do so.

More dodge and spin. Please tell us whether they are white nationalists or not, show your work, be a hero disprove the SPLC instead of just defaming them.

Do you care to post a link that proves them wrong? They document hate groups: https://www.splcenter.org/ Is there something wrong with keeping track of the right wing goose steppers in this country?

yea, the SPLC are entirely political. If you classify pepe the frog as a white nationalist symbol then, you know...I'm not at all obliged to go by their definition. I'm sure there are white nationalists running, but forgive me if I don't think they are at all a threat.

The messenger isn't the fault here. It is the message: white nationalist pro-Nazi Holocaust deniers are running for federal offices, likely emboldened by Trump's equivocal reaction to Charlottesville & a lot more.

Will you vote for them?.......Still better than Democrat?.....Right

No. I would just stay home. Only an antisemite is worse than a democrat, and the democrats house antisemites.

It's not the first time that racist bigots have joined the Republican party. The only difference is that these nationalists are being transparent about their values.

Hopefully they don't have enough of a voting base to make it very far.

While we may disagree with your reason for not trusting the SPLC, I do respect your position and appreciate you taking the time and making the effort to share it.

Until your post I had never heard of Maajid Nawaz. I did read a few links and articles about Nawaz and about the SPLC's position regarding him. I need to read a bit more.

At this point I am not certain what to make of Nawaz. Certainly the world could benefit from the wise and brave words of former practitioners of the fundamentalist sects of all religions, be they Muslim, Buddhist, Christian, Judaism, whatever. Many of those same detractors place themselves at risk by being outspoken.

The track record of the SPLC is admirable. I am not likely to distrust them if/when they gore one of my ox's. More often than not the SPLC has been correct in the positions it has taken. With the rise of tribalism, religious fundamentalism, extreme political partisanship, and due to our increasingly flawed democracy, we very much need organizations such as the SPLC.

I would add that more than I can every remember there is a dire need for civil discourse in America. We don't have to agree but we could damn sure benefit from explaining the reasons for our individual beliefs so that we might learn more about each other if not learn more from each other.

As with many here, I'm sick and tired of constant "gotcha" posts. We learn nothing from them.

Thank you again for taking the time and making the effort to explain your reasoning for distrusting the SPLC. I have learned something as a result.

SPLC documents groups they hate. Namely right wing goose steppers as you put it.

Now are these serious candidates with any actual chance of winning the district they are running in? Or are these throw away or crack pot candidates in a district that is so blue that the GOP doesn't bother actually running any serious candidate because it would be a huge waste of money to run a real candidate in that district? Like that guy in Illinois that has about the same chance of winning as I do getting my dick sucked tonight by Mila Kunis or some other hot Hollywood actress?

Nearly there. They document groups WHO hate, such as goose-steppers and many other varieties of rightwing fascist scum.
