There's been multiple definitions of racism, so I'll present a specific one for this poll. Racism is basically disliking other people because of their race, choosing specifically to associate or not to associate with people because of their race, or assuming negative things about someone because of their race. Do not confuse racism and social status.
It seems whenever I see some story involving racial slurs or white attacking blacks or blacks attacking whites, there's always a simple pattern. If it's a white person insulting blacks or beating up blacks, its always "hate speech" or "hate crime" or "racial attack." When it's blacks or minorities attacking whites its, "accused of racial remarks" or "possible hate crime" or "possible racial attack".
Question one: Does the media cut minorities more slack on racial issues?
Question two: Are whites more racist than minorities?
At this time, I would say black racism towards whites is slightly worse.Rather impossible question to answer.
A better question would be
Which is worse for American society as a whole
White racism towards blacks or Black racism towards whites
At this time, I would say black racism towards whites is slightly worse.
My reasoning is, white racism towards blacks is much more well known as a factor, and thus most people dismiss anyone who exhibits it.
Black racism towards whites, however, is less recognized, for various reasons, and thus is more likely in my mind to cause issues.
But my reasoning could be flawed.
Rather impossible question to answer.
A better question would be
Which is worse for American society as a whole
White racism towards blacks or Black racism towards whites
I was viewing it from a more “popular knowledge/public eye” angle.I would say so
I would measure it by impact on society.
If 30% of the Adult black population was racist and 20% of the adult white population was racist, the number of racist whites would outnumber the number of black racists. Overall the number of times blacks would be the subject of a racist incident would be higher then the number of white who would be subject to racist incidents.
For example
Assuming each racist would not hire the target of their racism, the number of blacks that would be prevented from obtaining a job would be quite a bit higher then the number of whites prevented from getting a job.
Hell, yeah. It's bred into us, and takes a lot of fight to get that demon out of us.
I agree
Racism is a natural thing.
It is part of being a pack animal, to see others of your pack as being more important then those outside of it.
What changes over time is who you view as being part of your pack.
Damn! You read my mind sometime. You elk hunt, there, Tammerlain?
i don't think so, i get looked down upon by blacks every tuesday, that may be because they're Sudanese and about 6' 24", but they still look down on me
Only on Tuesday?
Rather impossible question to answer.
A better question would be
Which is worse for American society as a whole
White racism towards blacks or Black racism towards whites
They're 8 feet tall?!? :shock:i don't think so, i get looked down upon by blacks every tuesday, that may be because they're Sudanese and about 6' 24", but they still look down on me
Black people are more likely to be racist toward whites because it's more accepted and sometimes even encouraged by mainstream culture.
