Price, the only African-American on the commisioner's court, was offended because a speaker named Jeff Turner called him "the Chief Mullah [moo-lah] of Dallas County."
Price said the term "mullah" is close to "moolie" -- a slur that has its roots in a slang that was used against Italian immigrants and was later used by the same to defame or discredit African Americans.

The ruckus on Tuesday morning went like this:

“Why are all the speakers white? Ain’t nobody else? Anyway, let’s go,” he said.

The audience began yelling at Price and he shot back.

“All of you are white. Go to hell,” he said.

One person shouted that Price should be ashamed of himself.

I’m not ashamed. Go to hell,”

Commissioner Price Tells Citizens to

All I have to say is that both sides went over the top. I'm not sure what the mullah reference was meant to be. I'm just wondering out loud, but was the citizen trying to call him muslim or making a reference to some sort of curroption envolving money? I can't see how this had anything to do with Italians, and I've definately never heard it in reference to blacks...not to say it hasn't been used that way, just that it has escaped me.

 WTF!

Commissioner Price has aroused local controversy through his efforts to challenge what he perceives as the status quo of Dallas city politics. Among many other notable instances, Price received national media attention when he took offense at the use of the term "black hole" by a fellow commissioner.[3] His words were lampooned repeatedly by the media and radio talk show hosts including Rush Limbaugh [4] Price again made headlines when he launched a profanity laced tirade at a December 2009 Dallas County Commissioner's Court meeting over the ongoing investigation of impropriety among Dallas Constables. Price repeatedly pounded on the desk in front of him and responded to a call from County Judge Jim Foster for order by declaring that Foster should "Make me come to order!" [5]
A school in a village in Kenya was named after Price.[6]
John Wiley Price has been charged with the following over the last 25 years; Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, Assault, Criminal Mischief, Criminal Trespassing, Terroristic Threat, Aggravated Assault-Serious Bodily Injury, and Sexual Assault(which was dismissed by the Judge). I note the word "charged", not "convicted". I'm guessing the fact that he has been charged so many times unsuccessfully must tell us something more about those gunning for him than about the man himself, no?

I forgot about the black hole incident. This guy really is developing a pattern of racial bias.

I took it to mean the sexual assault was dismissed by the judge.

Mullah as a reference of respect to it. It's used to address a male, or a teacher or educator in Islam. Is Price a muslim? It's definately not a slur... and to say it sounds like "moolie" is like saying "funky" sounds like "honky"... sounds like Price is a bit racist to me. I have never heard of the misuse of the word "mullah" in the United States - the Italian word is moulinyan... Either way, I think the Commissioner needs to find a new job. Public officials are called worse than that and commissioners have to be ready to handle it. He didn't.

So how many convictions? The wiki page doesn't say. You could be forgiven for thinking the wiki page contributor has it in the the guy; guilt by inference.

Oh but this guy has a great network set up. He's appointed people in positions of law enforcement, courts, budget offices, elections commissions and more. He's untouchable because he has friends in strategic places.

He'll become a political liability sooner or later --- I'm surprised it hasn't been sooner actually. At that point, no one will back him and he'll go from untouchable to persona non grata in seconds. He's probably too stupid to even realize it.

I see that a school was named after him in Kenya. Don't know if that has any meaning or maybe that's why the citizan called him that.

Oh well. The guy seems to be squeaky clean.

So... this guy wants people to not use words that sound like words that poss him off? Even if they have no linguistic or historical similarities? Anyone else remember the chaos over the word "niggardly"? Even though it has nothing to do with the word "black" in any language.

black-hole incident, nuff said, this guy is a douchebag of a commisioner and really should go to hell himself.

Imagine if any public figure who was white said "You're all black, go to hell."

He'd be crucified. There would be nothing else in the media for months.

All I can say is that I am sure glad I'm not white.

My attractive shade of pink serves me well once again.

So why isn't this on the front page of every newspaper and on every talking head show coast to coast, espousing how one particular political party is and always has been racists?

Oh... because a Democrat said it. 'Nuff said then.

WTF! He's just a gem, aint he.

Everyone's a Democratic love-child: Assault? Terroristic Threatening? KKK membership!
Is there anyone they WON'T take in? How bad of a person do you have ot be to get the axe from the Dems?

Oh yeah - you have to be fiscally conservative . .. oh wait! They take those too.

Just another loud-mouthed low-rent politician with a chip on his shoulder and a short fuse. They come in all colors. So do racists!

I shook my head and laughed at him when he got "offended" at the term black-hole in reference to the centeral collections agency in that area.

Now, I just wish people would vote him the F out of his position.

Funny thought just crossed my mind....I wonder just how many people would actually listen to this guy, or sharpton, wright, and jackson if there was an ability to actually set them on ignore like you can in forums for posters you don't like....I know, weird thought that is an impossibility. *shrugs* what can I say......

Ray Wiley Price is famous around here for looking for fights. On the other hand, I heard he was called a "Tribal Mullah" six times by the guy speaking to him. Shouldn't he have been addressed as Mr. Commissioner? Like I said, he's not a good target to taunt. It sounds to me like the fight he's always looking for was brought to him this time.

"Ain't"? Another over-achiever.
