So a democrat caught with his pants down... a big so what.. or is he one of those rare family values democrats promoting abstinence and the sanctity of marriage as one of his core beliefs? If so.. freaking hypocrite!.. if not... again so what...

So if a Dem makes unwanted sexual advances, it's A-OK with PeteEU and TGN? For shame gentleman.
 
Wu is separated from his wife and the girl is 18, so its not a huge scandal if the sex was consensual. The real problem is the complete lack of evidence on what actually happened in regards to sexual assault. He was accused in 1976, but no legal action was taken. In the new accusation, it appears that once again there will be no charges. Sexual abuse is unfortunately one of the most difficult cases to handle, as victims have trouble reporting it and physical evidence provides little. On the other hand, its also unfair for the accused to be condemned without any proof.

The encounter took place in November so there isn't going to be forensic evidence left. Even if there was, DNA proves they had sex, it doesn't say whether it was consensual or not.
 

If not consensual, I hope he gets the full punishment. I kind of worry that when politicians do stuff like this, they get away with easier than normal people or just get a slap on the wrists.

Weird, usually it's the ultra conservative types who are defending any male against any rape accusation, saying that an accusation after the fact doesn't mean it was rape, etc.

"Late Friday, the 56-year-old Wu issued a one-sentence statement about The Oregonian's report: "This is very serious, and I have absolutely no desire to bring unwanted publicity, attention or stress to a young woman and her family."

Quoting anonymous sources, The Oregonian reported that Wu told senior aides that the sexual encounter last November with the young woman in California was consensual. The paper reported Facebook notes indicate she graduated from high school in 2010 and that she registered to vote in California last August.

The paper said the woman decided not to press charges because there were no witnesses and it would have been her word against Wu's.

The newspaper said its information came from multiple sources familiar with the allegation."

David Wu is my Congressman, he will definitively have a primary challenger in 2012. I will more than likely vote for the challenger, if WU wins, I will hold my nose and vote for him.
 
Wu has some very definite mental issues. He should have been forced out long ago.

Well, I was 35 when I met my wife, who was then 18 so I can't be all that critical about Wu.. She's young, yes, but as I discovered, you can't stop love when it bites you. The real test is once the lust phase wears off if it is really love, or just some old dude scoring with some unsuspecting teen? Only time will tell.. For me, we've been together 8 going on 9 years and two children together.. Seems like things are A-Ok..

I know this is irrelevant, but when I read the thread title, the first thing that popped into my mind was "Wu who?" I only mention it because it's one of the few times I've ever made myself lol, and shows how easily amused I am! :mrgreen:

So what? I'll tell you so what: it's a crime for an adult to engage in sexual activity--consesual, or not--with a minor.

And the girl happens to be 18 (at least they say her age cannot be verified, but she graduated from high school). So it's not certain if she is a minor, but probably not.
