To be clear here, this is a Burqa:

Not to be confused with a Hijab:

Not going to put my vote in the poll for the simple fact that whether you're male or female on this issue is not relevant. Unless of course you want to imply misandry or misogynist.

But to answer the question, I've always been on the side of Rights and would be against any law banning such. That said, what people allow on their property is up to the owner of that property, not the government. So, if a business wishes to ban it so be it. That is their Right as it is their property. I can also see and would accept a ban in certain locales that are security sensitive or places which are often the targets of mass shooters for identification purposes. However, simply walking down the street, no, I wouldn't accept such a ban.

If it was evident that women who choose to become part of the porn industry do so because they have no other option as opposed to just wanting to make bigger money, liking the profession or having no problem with it - then you'd have a point, clearly. As it is though you actually do not.

If it wasn't clear enough my reply was specifically to the part of your comment that suggested it was their free choice which I found to be ignorant, that part remains wrong, absurd and yes quite delusional too. I am not claiming however that burqas should be banned as is the popular opinion in Western European countries, where by the way the claim is mainly made so to preserve the dominance of their own cultural identity more than for any other reason, leaders like Merkel and politicians in France say so themselves.

It was also the popular opinion of a certain Western European country to round up Jews. That's why constitutions exist, they protect people's rights. As for your statement that it's "obviously" the case that all people who wear burkas are being forced into it by their husbands... Well, I'm still waiting on the evidence. And even if that were the case, you might consider instituting a law to protect women from being forced to do things by their husbands, rather than just line-item veto a particular garment.

It's very childish to twist people's words into something you could attack like your claim I said not even one of the women who wears the awful thing is doing so by choice (Where the hell did I say that?) or the other claim that I said it should be banned by law (In the comment you're replying to the opposite was stated). Then again socialism itself is a childish ideology and so are people like Noam Chomsky so I guess we can just carry on.

So businesses can discriminate as they wish huh?

Private property and right to association. Yes. Just because we have anti-discrimination laws doesn't mean that I believe those laws to be not in violation of peoples Rights.

Yeah, that argument is brought up all the time in here. Mostly when a baker wants to refuse to make a 'gay' wedding cake or a lunch counter refusing service to a black man.

It has been decided in courts on ALL occasions that any business open to the general public can't discriminate based on race, religion, sexual orientation... well you know the litany... :peace

No, I wouldn't but I would also qualify that with if a person is wearing one, then revealing their face for identification purposes should be taken into consideration. You don't get to tell a police officer, banker, etc. that you can't show your face to ensure that it matches your ID that you can't because of your religion. If your religion means that much to you, then either live in a place where ID is not needed or only engage in activities where your identification is not critical.

I am happy that those women do not drive cars.

so 1 day of the year and whenever its cold out no ban

whats the point of this other then discrimination?

It is about stopping discrimination.

Show me where the constitution tells me that I have the right to take a piss?

Why? You said it was a RIGHT. I wanted to know where that right was given to you, and now you're demanding that I show you new rights I never mentioned? Wtf?

A surprising number of "small government" types support having the government dictate what clothing we wear.

Yes, I know the litany. Doesn't mean I have to agree with it. ;)

I am genuinely interested in what personal rights you believe anti-discrimination laws to violate. What social problems have the laws created or magnified? I have never studied the anti-discrimination laws, so this is purely educational for me to learn your opine.

Those who would trade freedom for security end up with what?

A burka should not be worn for the taking of ID photos, and a store-owner should have the right to refuse entry to anyone who wears a face covering (including burkas, balaclavas, Halloween masks, motorcycle helmets). But banning an item of clothing is just ridiculous, and a violation of freedom of expression and freedom of religion.

Clothing rules are nothing new.

and freedom of religion.

For the ten thousandth time, the burqa is not a religious garment. It's a cultural garment from a very distinct region of the world.

The burqa is no more Muslim than female circumcision is.

One that I feel no need to tolerate.

He stated it right in the post you quoted. Personal property rights and Right of Association. The concept is that if you are the owner of the business, then it is your right to decide who you will or will not do business with, for any reason. Now the same does not hold true for the employee, since the employee owns neither the business, nor the job. The employee's right is to either work for or not work for a given employer, as per their Right of Association.

Clothing rules are nothing new.

Neither is violating rights and freedoms in this country, but it doesn't mean that we shouldn't continue to strive to correct it when we do so.
