Would you like to see Sarah Palin appointed as Sec. of the VA?

Would you support Palin for Sec of the VA?

I don't see her as qualified to run something as big and complicated as the VA. Alaska is a geographically large state, but it contains less than a million people and, "Pretty nearly 50% of Alaska’s 735,132 occupants live inside of the Anchorage metropolitan range".

POPULATION OF ALASKA 2016

The VA is much bigger in comparison:

How big is the Veterans Health Administration?

- 150 VA Hospitals

- 820 VA Community-Based Outpatient Clinics

- 300 VA Vet Centers, which offer counseling, suicide prevention and other services

Who do these hospitals serve?

- 5.69 million patients in 2013

- 8.92 million people enrolled in VA health care system

- 6.69 million life insurance policies supervised and administered by the VA

- 3.84 million veterans receiving VA disability compensation

- 2.03 million active VA home loan participants

- 1.09 million VA education beneficiaries

- 310,000 veterans receiving VA pensions

- 70,000 VA vocational rehabilitation trainees

The VA By the Numbers: How Big Is It and Who Uses It? - NBC News

That information is 3 years old, but it's illustrative for the purpose of comparison.

She resigned as governor before her term was up showing she didn't have the stick-to-it drive for that job. Why would she stick to running the VA when it would be much more difficult?

She lacked knowledge in governmental and foreign affairs to be VP. And though she resigned as governor, it was clearly not to "study up" on the things she didn't know to return for another go running for office. She seems more interested in being in the public eye for the last 8 years. So I have no faith she would "study up" on what needs to be done to straighten out the VA.

Palin has a track record of opposing corruption in government both prior to becoming governor of Alaska and during her term. That includes working to eradicate corrupt politicians in her own party. I don't know whether she'd do a good job or not but I have no reason to believe that she would be dishonest in the position or resort to self dealing.

My objection is or will be not that she is corrupt but rather that she is in no way qualified. Hell, Luther, you and I are more qualified than Palin. I can't speak for you but in my case it if I became Sec. of the VA the entire nation would be outraged in a short time. Sumbtiches would be steady trying to end any memory of me, permanently.

Sorting the VA is a massive challenge. Look at the people who have tried, all more qualified than Palin.

Trump has been a huge critic of the VA. Good on him for that. I want him to follow through by appointing the most qualified person he can find and I want Trump to give that person every ounce of support he/she needs.

Whether you voted for or against Trump, you have to admit he has ONLY appointed highly accomplished people with proven track records to his administration. If anything, Palin will do something in constituent relations, media surrogate, etc. I'd be completely shocked if he gives her an actual position of authority in any department, let alone one where she has absolutely no credentials. But I've been wrong before.

Palin said she resigned to avoid the lawsuits and investigations that were flooding in from a national political level as a result of her new found fame/power from running for VP. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resignation_of_Sarah_Palin
She decided it wasn't fair to her state to spend enormous amounts of money to defend her against people who were trying to drown her politically. Her answer to this dilemma was to resign and have Sean Parnell take over, since that would take the financial pressure off of her state and leave the governing in the hands of someone who would do what she would've done anyway. Once she resigned, she helped lead the voting effort in one of the most lopsided midterm victories in U.S. history. Remember, this was a big year for Tea Party candidates and Palin was their biggest cheerleader. From a practical standpoint, Palin's resignation was a net plus for the Republicans and for Alaska, which was her intention all along.

As far as not being smart enough, I thought she held up pretty well against Biden in the debate. The Couric interview doesn't really bother me because I think she was irritated with Couric and also because none of the questions she failed to answer meant anything to me. I wouldn't expect someone who just recently realized they were going to be in national politics know everything, but I would expect them to learn in time. Then there were other so called gotcha moments, like the "Bush Doctrine" question. The Bush Doctrine isn't a formal term brought into existence by legislation, it's a term coined by a political pundit that means different things to different people. It's really ridiculous on Charlie Gibson's part to ask her if she agreed with it. He was probably trying to make a name for himself off of Palin like Couric and Tina Fey already had. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bush_Doctrine

Rumor is that Half-Gov. Sarah Palin is being considered by Trump for Secretary of Veteran's Affairs. No, I don't like her. No, I don't think she is in any freaking way qualified.

As a disabled veteran who once used the Phoenix VA. I now use the VA in Tucson. It's worth the drive - and I switched before the fit hit the shan because of much of what has been determined to be a disaster. I cannot believe that Trump would have the cheek to politicize the VA. Ain't no swamp draining by putting someone as unqualified as Palin in charge. It would just be politicizing an already screwed up behemoth and turning it into a world class cluster****.

I know many veterans, I've been active on vet boards. One thing I can say with certainty. I have never, ever, ever, heard anyone say, "What we need is someone to appoint Sarah Palin to tackle the problems at the VA." Never, never, has any vet that I know even hinted such a thing.

I hope the rumors are wrong. What say you?

Palin doesn't have the snap.

My pick would be Chuck Hagel. But, I don't believe he would accept the job.

I don't know. Sarah has always seemed pretty worthless to me. I never thought of Sarah as secretary of anything. What are her qualifications? Can she type fast? Can she take dictation? Can she make coffee?

Refresh my memory wasn't she involved in corruption in alaska and money wasting and a possible embezzlement or a scandal(s) that involved filtering money. It's an honest question because I can't remember or was it just political BS?

Regardless at this point I don't think Plain is capable of being a reliable government official. I don't see her being able to NOT stray from duties and involve herself in other things like self promotion/propaganda for herself. A decade ago maybe? But not now. Just my opinion.

Yep just looked it up, guilty of ethics violation and there's also questions about money handling procedure errors and costly oversights. So now thats even more reasons she shouldn't be considered.

Just looking through the first page of this thread shows me that the usual Palin-hating suspects have chapped asses. That's good to see.

But I agree with others here who say that Palin brings very good qualities to the table. If Trump does end up selecting her, I think we can all expect to see improvement in that Department.

Greetings, JC, :2wave:

Good job of defending Palin! You mentioned several items I had forgotten about how she was treated back then - and I wondered why, this many years later, that the mere mention of her name is good for
pages of screaming vitriol! Yikes!

Hi Pg *hug*

I really liked Palin a lot and defended her constantly at Politico. I feel like almost all of the hatred is envy and fear, and still do. Palin has gone off the rails a little over the past few years, but I still feel like she can handle this job.

Read your thread. It's all there.

All I care about Sarah Palin is how good she looked for her age (I have not seen her in a while - so I am not sure any longer).

Almost everything that came out of her mouth was silly to me.

I already refuse to use the VA because I don't like the service. But that is a luxury not all vets can afford. I cannot think of a single thing Palin brings to the table that will help the VA. He just wants to give her something because she supported him during the election. Give her an ambassadorship is some cushy place, then. But put someone who actually knows what they are doing in the VA.

The VA is good, as is?

She's not even qualified to be a television commentator anymore. Have you seen her try to speak publicly lately? Can you say, "train wreck"?

It would also provide a source of amusement as the usual whiners would be in full chernobyl mode no matter what SP would do

Risky, I want someone with the knowledge and experience and guts to clean up the VA. I have no idea who that would be--since you're keeping up on other boards, could you offer some names?

I'm thinking of a name - something like "Ritt Momney".....

I don't hate her. I feel sorry for her. She turned her back on the people of Alaska who elected her to be governor in order lose a presidential election and then to pursue a failing television career. She can barely put words together anymore. Conclusion: She's not qualified to run anything.

She resigned her governorship eight months after the election. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resignation_of_Sarah_Palin

If Trump needs to put her in his cabinet, then Secretary of the Interior would be more in line with her experience. I want a wounded Vet in the VA job.
