Yeah that stuff bothers me as well.
Actually that can be and is often dealt with discreetly, putting up a sign on your dive bar is an attempt to get attention.
i am inclined to believe the sign is intended to keep people such as yourself, away; those who believe it is ok to impose their kids' inappropriate behavior on other patrons
But I should be able to take my kids (if I had any) into any establishment providing food (in any form), and expect a smoke-free, kid-friendly, cheap, quality dining experience. Plus, while I hit on the waitresses, with tips from my (currently nonexistent) wife, I expect those said waitresses and the rest of the staff to ensure my kids don't get hurt... Physically or mentally, and I'm positive that they will incur great mental harm from being told to shut the **** up.You mean a bar? Really I don't know why this is so offensive. Not all restaurants have to be family restaurants.

I think it'll ruin my post, but do you think perhaps I should have added some note labeling it sarcasm?and when you walk in the door expect to hear some midget yell "Boss, de plane, de plane!!!!!"
or as I often tell my older kids... you can expect in one hand and **** in the other and see which one fills up faster.

Just checkin'nah, I think most people will get it ( I did, if that's what you are implying). I was just having a bit of fun with my reply. I just always add the  to mine just to be sure.
I wouldn't expect your kids would be a problem. I wasn't rude, just firm. And ready.
One time, years ago when I was much younger. I was out of town and eating in this joint when a family came in with a bunch of loud obnoxious brats who screamed and yelled the whole time. As I was leaving, and pretty confident that I would never be back at this joint again anyway, I lit up a cig, blew a big lungful of smoke right into their faces and said, "I'd just like to thank you for providing me with such an enjoyable dining experience". The manager was pissed and followed me into the parking lot yelling that I wasn't welcome back, but as I said..I wasn't ever going back anyway.
Yes, yes it was. Delightfully so. He was doing an a hole thing to some a holes who were beggin' for it. They were saying, with their actions "Please be an a hole to us we want it so bad!!!" It was very kind of him to accommodate them.Wow that was a really a hole thing to do.

I do believe that adults who have not yet learned how to be considerate do need to have it demonstrated to them in a very concrete way as to what their inconsiderate behavior looks like. I am certain they must have been made aware of their inconsideration at some point, and now its been demonstrated to them. Oscar performed a public service.Great so if some one is an a hole just be an hole back...that will get us real far as a society:roll:

LOL
Wish I could thank more than once.
Anyone exhibiting this kind of behavior to my children for any reason would find that the ability to leave the restaurant had been inhibited by their inability to actually ambulate any longer.
Way to go, man, I admire people who don't take that kind of nonsense quietly. One time, years ago when I was much younger. Really? But prior to the smoke incident: Would your children have been acting like Helen Keller before the intervention, while you calmly and completely ignored their antics?
Great so if some one is an a hole just be an hole back...that will get us real far as a society:roll:
No, as previously stated, I take the behavior of my children very seriously and am very conscious of their behavior in public, but the bottom line is that no one has the right to treat a child disrespectfully and anyone who crosses that line with my children will have stepped into a far bigger hole than they realize.
That being said, my parenting methods may not be the same as everyone else's and it is not their business to inform me how they think my children should be raised.
On a side note, I don't take my children any place that doesn't have a kid's menu.
