I'm on the left, and this year, I would not. It would be the same thing as shooting my country in the foot, or higher. And I'm not going to do that. Most elections/years, I would.

I would drive someone I knew regardless of who they were voting for.

I usually don’t make it a habit of giving strangers rides though I have picked up stranded people a couple times in the distant past. So I know I wouldn’t give a stranger a ride to the polling place regardless of who they were voting for.

There's only so much wording you can use in these things. I didn't really mean like picking up a complete stranger on the side of the road, more like someone in your area or workplace that was familiar to you so not a complete and total stranger. Maybe even some elderly person from your neighborhood, workplace, church, etc who you really didn't know but they either put up a note or asked you, someone you knew wasn't Jack The Ripper. Maybe a neighbor asked your wife to ask you about their Uncle Sam. Get it? Uncle Sam. LOL. Oh well, I guess that wasn't the best joke.

I've had some bad experiences picking up strangers on the road, not horrible, but ones where I really regretted it. I picked up this one couple once who needed a ride. I think their car was broken down and they spent the entire time telling me about some unscrupulous porn place they ran, sort of like one of those adult bookstores that had some action on the side. It was pretty creepy. Then there was another time I saw a broken down car on the highway with a guy next to it with his thumb out. I felt compelled to pick him up to help. Turns out he was an extremely weird drunk hitchhiker guy who purposely stood by a broken down car so and idiot like me would pick him up. He was VERY weird and drunk and he seemed to want to stay in my car and not get out anywhere.

I've had experiences on both sides of the spectrum: From picking up two people who had a broken down car and were obviously under the influence of something to picking up an elderly lady who needed to be a doctor appointment that was coincidentally very close to where I worked. Great experiences with a few outliers and I usually keep my firearm handy when picking up strangers .. until I can "feel" them out. :)

I did in 2016, and knew I was doing it. I live on a Street where I had a Clinton yard sign, and my three elderly neighbors all had Trump yard signs. I volunteered to drive my 90 year old neighbor because he wasn't allowed to drive anymore, and that turned into me driving all of them as a group activity. I was in my 20's and they were all late 80s or early 90s. While I knew I was taking several Trump voters to vote, in a Swing State mind you, I didn't care. Being neighborly is always the right thing to do.

Incidentally all of them have passed since then, with the oldest of the group at age 95 passing away just last month. One of the my new neighbors that occupies one of their old houses has a Biden bumper sticker, and the other has a rainbow flag on the front porch and a BLM car magnet. So I assume those residences will not be supporting Trump this go around... which continues to play into my mindset that as older voters die off, they aren't being replaced by more Conservatives.

Ah. Ok. In that case I would even if they were voting for the other guy.

Uncle Sam. Groan. :).

I personally do not vote and do not identify with any party which means there really is no such thing as "the other side" for me and also that I would not ever find myself in a situation where I am on my to vote to be able to pick up a stranger.

Only issue with driving a stranger is that they are strangers and not their voting-preference. If they paid me, I'd be prepared to drive them anywhere no matter reason. :)

This came up in another thread and made me want to post a poll. No one can see your vote so you can be honest.

Voting is our civic duty. I'd do it, even if I lived in a red state. Voter suppression is a right-wing tactic.

I wouldn’t drive a stranger anyway, that’s crazy.

I assumed the OP meant if you knew the person. I have several conservative friends. My days of picking up hitchhikers are over - too many bad experiences!

Voting is our duty as citizens of this nation.
Our? Duty? As citizens of this country?

These words make me shiver. I am not obliged to sacrifice my own freedom to line up by the ballot box. If I value something else higher, then that is what my duty is. There is no such thing as "our duty" and neither do I like to be minimised into a tribal category of "citizen" - I am I.

I do not say no to voting as a "voting tactic" (wtf?), I do it because I regard it as both useless and immoral. Only scenario in which I would ever consider voting would be if one of the candidates were Adolf Hitler himself. Then I would see it as my duty to stop him.

I would never prevent the opposition from voting, but damn if I'm going to help them do it.

This is why mail in voting exists.

I can walk to my polling place so the question isn't really germane to me.

I accidentally answered "I would."

I am on the right, and I would not drive a stranger anywhere, even if they averred that they were going to vote the same way I was going to.

To be honest, I don't think anyone is that hot. Take AOC for instance, I guess she isn't bad looking but I can't get past her being so disgusting. I would tell her that I was driving her to the polling station but I would play New York City cab driver until the polls closed.
As soon as she opened her mouth it would be a hige turnoff for me

Sure, they still have a right to vote.

That said, if the stranger was armed to the teeth wearing camo paint and a maga hat, I wouldn't let them in my car no matter what day it is.

Do you really know how someone will vote? I would take anyone who can’t get there on their own.

Would You Drive A Stranger To Vote For The Other Side?

I would have any year the last 50 years but NOT this year.

This is not a choice between Dem and GOP, this is a choice between good and evil. Decency and indecency.
Destruction and fixing.

This is the most important election in everyone alive's lifetime and nothing can be done morally or as an American to enable the possible reelection of this mad man.

but for tRump-virus, i would drive anyone. ditto for getting them to their voter registration site

however, this year's pandemic causes me to be unwilling to drive friends or strangers in my car

Voting is our civic duty. If you don't vote and are unhappy with the state of your nation - you have no right to complain.

Ah, how original and classy. :)

I have more right than voters to complain because I had no role in contributing to the mess I am complaining about. ;)

PS. I am prepared to sell my vote for a pizza or a Big Mac. I don't see it as worth as any more than that and I do not think anyone else values it much higher than that... Which just proves how useless it is.

Cool, well you do you, my friend, I'll do me.
