Inspired by a random conversation in the pub what for you personally is the worst way to die?

I am not afraid of death but I am afraid of my death being news worthy because its either ridiculous or random.

Guy died in the street when 1000 degree jet fuel landed on him after a helicopter crash. Completely random, newsworthy and would easily be the worst way to die for me.

I think any kind of random death would be the worst with no time to say goodbye to loved ones. There's this show 1,000 ways to die that shows all kind of freak accidents that I would not want to happen to me.

Although the most depressing loss I suffered was the result of a similarly random loss, I have the a hard time believing a sudden random death could be worse in the experience of the victim as a slow, degenerating death.

A lot of people adapt to their decline as they age. What would seem horrible to you at 20, might not seem horrible to you at 75. Alzheimer would probably be one of my worst feared deaths, or at least a close second to being paralyzed at the neck.

yeh but your legacy is the death.

" Do you remember Bob from school?"
" Bob...is that the guy who got melted by jet fuel"?.

Plus I imagine it would be awful for your surviving family to have to explain that to people. Not matter how much you say it those reactions are always going to be the same.

I hear burning to death isn't that bad as all your nerves get burned off and you die of asphyxiation.

There was that Roman Emperor that had the bronze bull created... where a life-sized hollow bull made of bronze with a air tube out it's mouth was used to lock a person in and then a fire would be placed under the bull. The person trapped inside would slowly burn to death and gasp for fresh air and screams out the bulls mouth.... it is said bull was design to make the screams sound like a bulls grunt.

Well, the best way to die is quickly, so you don't feel anything. i would say the worst way to die is drowning, as it is a panic that sets in and you go crazy crazy, then i think you are alive for a while with your lungs full of water or something.

Burning to death is quicker, and your nerves 'overload' with sensations and stop functioning. it is 'irritation' of sorts, as that is how i think things burn - the fire irritates your skin until it shrivels and 'dissolves.' it is really gross i presume for a while after that, but, luckily, i don't think i will burn to death any time soon. i have tried to tempt fate to burn me with candles, and hold my finger over the candle for about half a second, not a 'quick stab' but rather a bluff or ante that has yet to be called by the 'candle.' i think this is because i had a dream where i rolled a random monster in the dungeons and dragons books, and got a fire elemental as my first one. then, i got something else, i cannot remember. it was a juggernaut of some kind, quite powerful, and, i know in some campaigns like dark sun, there were no gods, but rather elements.

There are many other ways to die, like from injury. imagine having a car accident, and having all your energy knocked out of you. ever fallen off a bike? remember how weak you felt and helpless? i once was hood jumping, and fell on my head, and it was really bad for a while - the vulnerability.

Okay, what i think is the worst way to die is from drinking too much water. i was trying to commit suicide, and drinking lots of water. it felt as if my cells were about to explode, but i was no way near finished the recommended amounts.

I think being impaled the way Vlad the Impaler did outside his castle would be horrible. In through the arse and out through the mouth. Slow, painful and horrible.

i always tell people theres worse ways to die, like being dragged by your feet behind a truck moving 5 mph for like 50 miles.of course i dont use that one too often cuz in texas draggin town is brought up,forget the towns actual name, but its known as the racist capital of texas, where a black man was dragged to death by a truck by 3 people,2 ended up getting the death penalty, while the third talked his way into life in prison.

dragging has to be the most painfull, being alive while youre being turned into ground beef cannot be fun, infact its so cruel i wouldnt wish it upon my worst enemies.

supposedly being crucified was the most painful execution ever devised. mentally, being buried alive would be the worst

Alone, without family and friends....

Being chained to a chair with my eyes stuck open and being forced to read Haymarket in any gun thread.

Since youre here does that mean youre dying now?

As for me, I think the brazen bull torture is the worst way to die. If there's one thing mankind has perfected since ancient times, its killing people in the worst ways possible.

He probably didn't even feel it. 3rd+ degree burns generally don't hurt because they destroy nerves so fast.

The man who crafted that bull was the first victim, too.

Worst way? Being burned at the stake. See Allan Eckerts 'The Frontiersman' for a full description.

most of those burned at the stake were garroted first and those who actually were burned usually died of asphyxiation. very painful but not days like those crucified

Having your skin peeled off while having salt vinegar trickled down on you.

Being gutted like they did a looooong time ago.

Having parts of your body cut off, knowing those effed up cannibals are coming back to do it again and again until you're dead.

Any of those would freak me out.

Anything slow and painful would suck.

Well, that all depends on who you are talking about. For the victim, the sudden, random death would be preferable, I'm sure, to a slow, degenerative death. But to the surviving family? Time to say goodbye would be priceless. My father suffered what I believe was a stroke. The hospital never said for sure what the official cause of death was. But he was without oxygen for 20 minutes, and was brought back, but by this time, his brain had been without oxygen for too long. He wasn't vegetative, but could no longer speak. He could look around, and see us, but that was about it. I made it there before he died, and told him how much I loved him. I hope he heard me.
