Why did you post this thread here without a poll? You can find some answers in the form specifically made for this topic.

Lol it takes a minute or so to add the poll. ;)

See above.

BTW I'm not looking for answers personally, that wasn't the point of the thread. I know what my answer is.

Now that I see it, I know this poll could not be more biased. There are zero opinions for realistic fact supporters. Even "we are just lucky" is a political right-win fallacy because politics do not work that way. It needs equal numbers of Republican and Democrat answers, an Other choice, and multiple check boxes. Otherwise, your poll is a waste of browser storage space and your time spent here.

Because deaths per cases is a meaningless stat but one that Trumpelievers can twist into a positive. The US tests more so identifies more cases which loads that stat. Deaths per capita is an accurate measure.

You catch on easily.

Regardless, our deaths per cases is very low.

And Jake Tapper needs to lay off the "We have 5% of the world's population but 20% of the deaths." He knows darn well that the entire Southern Hemisphere was experiencing summer at the time to pandemic hit.

? Why is it meaningless ?
It may be a significant measure of treatments.

Luck has nothing to do with it...but all the rest of your choices apply as well as the resistance of the American people to the Chicken Little "The Sky Is Falling" nonsense from the Trump hating media. In most areas of our country, people didn't panic. They are simply dealing with it.

Here are some possible reasons:

1. US is undercounting deaths. Last estimates I've seen (based on overall increase in deaths vs what would be expected normally this year) suggest about 30k undercount which puts us at 3.5%.

2. European strain is deadlier than Asian strain. US has both (Western coast got Asian strain while Eastern coast got European one). E.g. South Korea has less than 2%. Australia 2.5%. Both less than US.

3. Europe (as well as much of the rest of the world) has older people living with younger people a lot more often than in US.

4. US got hit later than Europe. We knew more about management of covid than Europe. (Not by too much but still a contributing factor)

5. We are NOW testing more people who are less likely to die. We did not used to when it mattered more, but perhaps we do now.

6. A lot of cases in US arrived as part of the SECOND wave in the summer. It's possible the virus mutated further to be less deadly. Who knows...

If we had the highest rate in the world you'd be crowing. The case fatal rate is one of the prime measures health experts us. It addresses the quality of healthcare we provide, for one thing. Case fatality rate and the companion infection fatal rates are used by professionals.

This is a meaningless statistic. What actually matters is deaths per capita in a country, in which America is doing far worse than any developed country.

If Norway has 1000 cases and 80 deaths, they'd have an 8% death rate, and if America had 5 million cases and 200,000 deaths, your statistic makes America look better despite having a MUCH larger percentage of their population die from the pandemic.

For instance you were about 8 times more likely to die as an American than a German during this pandemic despite both countries having a similar infection survival rate.

7. Trumps leadership

I think it's hilarious that when it's a seemingly bad statistic you guys will claim Trump had nothing to do with it and it isn't his job to lead at all, but when the statistic is seemingly good you try to give him credit.

So if it really is Trump's leadership, that's fine. Then it's also his fault we have the highest infection rate and highest deaths per capita in the developed world.

If you're not looking for answers then your poll is simply crap placed here to troll.

7. Trump's leadership

What leadership? Donald Trump publicly stated he takes no responsibility for the virus and did nothing except tell people lies while refusing to wear a mask.

Do you realize what you just said?

Trump has been saying this for months, Democrats do nothing but scoff at it.

I’ve been tested twice (both negative).. Am I immune from contracting COVID now? Testing without the follow up steps of contact tracing and quarantine does little to prevent the virus from continuing to spread.

Nonsensical IMO.

1. you cannot compare a densely populated country like the Netherlands to the US (for example)

2. you do know what Italy and other countries from that list as almost done with their first waves and the US is still knees deep in their wave. We are trying to prevent a second wave, not trying to minimize the first wave.

Meaningless numbers for Trump’s cover.
The U.S. has 4% of the worlds population and 25% of the worlds COVID 19 cases.
These are meaningful numbers that reflect Trump’s total failure as a leader.

Ah, now I see why this was posted:

Trump told Woodward: ‘Nothing more could have been done’ on coronavirus response - MarketWatch

He’s busted, dude. We walked in on him cheating and no matter how many times ya’ll throw up your hands and screech “It’s not what it looks like,” it’s flailing.

And how could it work anyway? Really. The same party that runs on responsibility and leadership and wartime presidents is telling Americans that if we are faced with a great external danger, Donald Trump cannot keep us safe.

It has to do with testing. When the Corona virus first came to light, only the sickest people would be tested. Doctors only used the limited testing to help target therapies for the most needy and terminal. Testing only for the very sickest resulted in a higher ratio of death per test.

As testing became more available and anyone could get a test, even if you were only paranoid due to fake news, left wing propaganda and the over reactions of left wing mayors and governors in the death states. This caused more healthy people, with psychosomatic symptoms, to get tested, thereby lowering the death average. Imaginary symptoms will not test positive. The paranoia was thick.

This extra testing also caused more people to test positive for the disease. Unlike earlier testing, where the only the most sick were tested, now the semi-sick and barely sick, also showed up in the statistics, also making the death rate go down for corona cases.

The data collection that showed more cases, due to more testing, was initially subject to spin by fake news. Now the medical community can spin it the other way' lower death rates, just before the election. If Democrats want to live by the sword of spin, they will die by the sword of spin. One can sense the defensiveness that the new spin is causing, with Trump about to release new anecdotes.

The Democrats did not allow a good tragedy to got to waste. The buzzards did circle right away, but it did not last longer enough to be fully effective for the election. They may have to lie instead of spin, going forward.

Because much of America is sparsely populated.

New York is densely populated and so is New Jersey. The virus did a lot of damage in those places.

Wyoming barely has any COVID deaths at all? Why? Few people live in Wyoming so the virus has a hard time finding new hosts to feed on.
