Why did Trump not put his hand on the bible when he was sworn in?

Why did Trump not put his hand on the bible when he was sworn in?

  • He really is not religious

  • He's afraid he'll burn in hell for what he's about to do

  • He does not want to TRUELY swear an oath to the Constitution

  • He did not know he was suppose to!

OK... colour me naive. I guess I watch too much TV courtroom drama.

No Bible in sight the times I swore an oath of enlistment, either.

I'm not saying that oaths aren't sworn on a Bible at times...but it can't be a requirement. That wouldn't be constitutional.

He has dementia/Alzheimers. Reagan did the same thing, but he had a wife that actually loved him and made sure he followed protocol. Melenia does not give a crap about Trump.

All Trump does is refuse to pay contractors for their work.
He also was unable to make a profit on a casino in Atlantic City, has filed bankruptcy hundreds of times, and had many failed businesses because he is a ****ing moron.
Right.

Now you've gone from bibles to contracts.

Okay.

You sure are hung up on deodorant.

Tell me, can you name another president who builds skyscrapers?

Building skyscrapers is presidential? It doesn’t matter what job a president had in civilian life. What matters is how they govern. Trump is terrible at governing. And the latest things he has done involve building nothing but his brand.

more liberal hate

Vice President JD Vance first took the oath of office from Supreme Court Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Vance placed his hand on a Bible his wife, Usha Vance, was holding.
Then, Roberts stepped up to administer the presidential oath to Trump. Roberts moved quickly, and Trump stepped forward. Roberts instructed Trump to raise his right hand while Melania Trump was still standing near her seat. He did not wait for her to reach Trump’s side before starting.
Trump started repeating the oath as Melania came up next to him with the Bibles. Trump kept his eyes on Roberts and did not acknowledge the Bibles, He kept his left hand at his side as he repeated the 35-word oath. We have asked the Trump team for comment on this story and will update if we hear back.
Although presidents and other government officials have historically sworn the oath on a Bible, the U.S. Constitution doesn’t require it.

Every new US presdident in my lifetime has sworn the Oath of Allegiance at the Inauguration with his right hand in the affirmation position and his left hand on a Holy Bible.

Republicans and Democrats alike. All followed the same formula and honored tradition.

Except Donald Trump that is. He'll sell Bibles to his cult minions, but won't utilize one in his inauguration program.

He had his little wine and little cracker before he came out, so he was already cleansed.

Yep, Trump is historic in that respect. ;)

Tell me, can you name another president who builds skyscrapers?
Can you name another builder who purposely skips 10 floor numbers, so he can claim his building is taller?

Right.

Now you've gone from bibles to contracts.

Okay.
And the common thread is that worthless **** Trump.
I never discussed contracts.
Do try and keep up.

LOL!!

Now you can't even keep track of the nonsense you are spouting. Don't believe me? Go back and read your own post.

Bye.

Show me where I discussed contracts.
I’ll wait.

Makes me wonder if someone can decline to put their hand on the bible when testifying in court?
Yes, they can. Swearing on the Bible in court is optional. The other option is to swear to tell the truth under threat of perjury.

Other.

Trump doesn't care all that much about taking part in useless traditions just for the sake of traditions.

With our diverse and varied religions, focusing on the bible makes it a useless tradition.

Of course, if Biden hadn't out his hand on the bible when he was sworn in, you would have been apoplectic with rage.

Nonsense.

Based on my comments, you should know that I don't place any importance on a book.

Based on your comments, you also don’t place much importance on character of a candidate for president or his disregard for the constitution.

He wasn't selling it.

Okay, If I were a proud adulterer and a fraud committing gluton full of envy, avarice, lust, and wrath. I wouldn't want to touch a Bible either.

Can't justify calling out sloth even though he'd rather tweet nonsense and go golfing instead of work.

Honestly I think Trump forgot he was supposed to. I know some people will look deeper into this. But Trump isn't particularly religious.

Other. Trump had/has no intention of honoring the oath of office he was taking, so there was no way he was putting his hand on the Bible. His plan is not to faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, nor will he, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

He would set the Constitution on fire and watch it burn to ashes if he could. Not putting his hand on the Bible will be his excuse when claiming the oath of office doesn’t apply to him.
