What gave Obama the edge in this election?

Simply speaking, he was the slightly better candidate in this situation.

Now the far righties (not your average conservatives X Factor before you pounce on me ) will say he won only because of pandering to minorities or welfare recipients (which is something I knew they would do) instead of taking that all famous "personal Responsibility" for nominating a pretty weak Candidate (Not that they really had a choice although I would have voted for Jon Huntsman over Obama).

In the end Romney will go down as the Republican John Kerry of 2012. That's just the way it goes, got no ill will towards the guy but Obama was the better choice this year, the best of a bad bunch.

What gave Obama the edge in this election?
1. He was the incumbent. They are usually favored.

2. The economy is improving despite what some people say.

3. We're out of one war, getting out of another, bin Laden is dead and we got in and out of Libya.

4. Social issues. The country is getting more liberal on social issues and the strong rhetoric from the right on them probably turned a lot of people off.

5. Increasing taxes on the rich. Most people aren't rich and many people are hurting. Therefore, a lot of people either like the idea of taxing the rich or don't have a problem with it.

The Devil you know was generally viewed more favorable to the people who actually took initiative to turnout than the Devil they didn't.

The poll will only let me choose one option and I want to choose all but one.

Definitely, President Obama’s ability to connect with women, minorities, immigrants, and middle class people gave him an edge in this race. With his stance of deferred action, and some other policies that some conservatives vocally protested, led to much heat to Romney, who, in the youth’s eyes, opposed policies that many of them rank as Human Right issues. I do not think President Obama won on the economy, however, when it came to converting voters to his side; but I believe Romney never clarified his policies enough to differ from Bush and remove the negative stigmatism that he was an agent for the wealthy. If I can add two, more reasons: one, President Obama is an amazing speak giver, and he truly is a force when it comes to campaigning and bringing mass crowds. Two, the Democratic strategists recognized that the demographics of the United States of America had changed and still is changing to a minority majority, plus women are still about 51% of the entire world. Therefore, they won because of one thing: diversity.

Obama won because Romney showed up without a game plan. If you want to be a leader, you need some idea of where you're going. Romney's campaign turned out to be a road to nowhere as he did not present a single innovative idea. Thus, he came off as little more than a charming gas bag, and that is not nearly enough to unseat a popular incumbent.

Mitt Romney is lib masquerading as a conservative is what gave Obama an edge. The republicans were stupid in propping him up.If Propping up a RINO in 2008 didn't work then what made them thing propping up a bigger RINO in 2012 would work.

I think this above all else cost Romney the election. Now, this...

...are also valid reasons why Obama was re-elected and Romney loss, but one of the biggest reasons was he really didn't have a credible plan. He choose Paul Ryan for his budgetary acumen and that's great except it wasn't Romney's economic plan the people would be voting for. And by the time he presented the country with a plan of his own, he expected the nation to buy it without providing the details.

Two other reasons Romney loss are: 1) he didn't come across as a candidate who understood what the vast majority of people were going through; and 2) he seemed to endorse a more populist agenda than one that was pluristic (all inclusive of people from varios racial backgrounds). That alone hurt him bad!

He came across as lost, clueless and a little bit of a meanie. :thumbdown

More takers than payers... ?

And by that you mean those southern red states that take more federal money than they pay in?

Red States Are Welfare Queens - Business Insider

In the south, the red states, it is because we do have large majorities of takers and it drives us to vote red...."us" being the ones who work and vote. I would invite you to stand at the polling centers in June and just watch who votes which side...then follow them home. Yes, there are a lot of takers here...probably upwards of 30 to 40 percent if I had to guess. (didn't research it, just guessing) and they, for the most part, voted for Obama. We, the workers and earners, voted for Romney because we are sick and tired of it, as it stares us in the face all day long! If you lived in the South, you would understand exactly what I am saying. But I assure you that they "takers" in our states were not out voting for Romney.

Answer: In less than 30 words: Romney and his being a prisoner of the extreme right wing of the Republican Party. If the RP fails to change for the better they will become extinct like the Whig Party. Read your history books.

Yikes. I never thought you'd turn 'birther ' for the tax returns.

Yet that RINO won the nomination through the primary system. Go figure!

I love how the Right whines that Romney wasn't conservative enough, as though it was the lack of votes from the Far Right that doomed him.

He didn't win because most of the American people find the Far Right's message unpalatable. And the idea that a candidate like Santorum or Gingrich or Paul would have wider appeal simply flies in the face of reality.

yeah i'm sure its the DOD bases.. blue states dont carry those at all??

Nah, we in blue states have outlawed any military bases. It's why things like the Trident submarine base at Bangor, the Everett naval station, Fort Lewis, and McChord AFB in Washington are just figments of the imagination.

he requested 10 years worth from ryan, what was asked of him personally, has been pretty much standard for years. i'm sure he knew this going in, this wasnt his first rodeo......he knew going in that questions would be asked of his finances, if he had a problem with this, then he should not have ran for office. it is what it is, and when you decide to run for a high profile office, questions will be asked, and your personal life will be under a microscope.
