I already think she’s fair game, and will laugh at all manner of jokes about her.
If they are funny, I will laugh. People are treating her the way that Catholics treat Mary.
It’s unseemly.

Until there is some evidence of something to be concerned about, I am not going to be concerned. Where she is is none of my business, and if she chooses to be out of the public eye awhile, more power to her, I can hardly blame her. Speculating about something I have no knowledge of would be really ****ing stupid.
 
Just in case this is not yet brutally clear, we've got a lot bigger fish to fry than whether the First Lady is outside waving to the public with sufficient frequency. As far as we're aware, she doesn't help to craft US policy and has not played any direct part in the national moral crisis we find ourselves in today.

It's okay to ignore Melania and (generally speaking) any news story associated with her. At most, it's of academic interest to note that she hates her husband, but is that so newsworthy or even helpful at this late point in the game?

  • She fulfilled her duties in Easter Egg role
  • She has spoken at numerous Republican functions.

When does she start to get political in your eyes?

When was the last time in our history that a First Lady took on such consistently irrelevant roles? Seriously, it's okay to not pay attention to her.

The EU just determined that our economic sanctions against our allies are likely illegal. Is that not magnitudes greater in importance?

I mean, when a celebrity gets hospitalized, and she was one before. They get speculations about them dying almost instantly. Sometimes even fake death reports appear and the PR team has to clear it up. I don't know why Melania of all people is treated with such dignity. I highly doubt the same people would allow a different first lady to not appear in public for 22 days. I take it as people are scared to speculate and that the story is just not that big a deal yet what with The President's constant insert foot into mouth tweestorms and on-screen appearances. He takes all the air out of the room.
 
I don’t think there is any reason to treat her with kid gloves.

But I also don’t have much bad to say about her, so what do I know?
If anything I have compassion for the position she is in... being married to that thing. That is more than enough payback for any sins she has committed in life.

I mostly assume she wants to get as far away from him as she can. Just like all women in his life, excepting maybe Ivanka... and it would be inappropriate to comment on that relationship in such an uptight venue as a DP Melania thread.

I think everyone is missing the point of the thread. I asked when should we be worried about her. I just find it extremely odd. I have commented on the tariffs too. Why can't we discuss both things without measuring what's more important topic to discuss? I feel like ever since the Roseanne thing that is going to become a normal thing. "I don't like the topic you chose to discuss." "My topic is more important."

Of course they would. The British public isn't currently dealing with their own fascist crisis. Sweating the small stuff is the luxury of (relatively) peaceful times.

Remember: the public actually got embroiled in that one time when Obama put his feet on the Oval Office desk. Simpler times.
 
As likely as not she is probably trying to work through a major case of PTSD. We can only imagine the circle of hell she inhabits. And no easy way out with no end in sight. Doing wife without parole. She needs all the down time she can get.

She is a classy woman who has earned the right to be respected. I wish her the best.

I won’t worry about her even if she doesn’t make a public appearance rest of Trump’s term. She is a grown women with friends, family, money and the best body guards in the world. If she isn’t making public appearances it is almost certainly because that is the way she wants it.
