I don't want to do the 'amazon-way', but am looking for a new cooker and gadgets for cooking food, especially baking. Where do you go?

Home Depot. But avoid Samsung.

Well you are looking to buy new and I usually buy used cause I'm cheap and like to pretend to save the earth but I'll still give my two cents. I look at a places like habitat restore (if you have one in the area) or even on the internet. Some people don't think that's always the best idea but I've gotten multiple appliances that have served me very well and did not cost a lot. I don't need a "smart" anything or a newer appliance that doesn't last nearly as long as they used to.

I tend to search the internet for various product reviews. Once I decide exactly what I want to buy, I then search for places offering that specific product for sale.

Hmm, I guess you've had issues with Samsung. I feel I've had good luck with them but I will always check the reviews, jd power, and consumer reports. Things can change quickly in 1 year.
I don't know about their current appliances but I have a 1983 Sanyo Fridge still going strong.

We redid the kitchen about 5 years ago, and within a year, all 3 new Samsung kitchen appliances were having issues. The microwave plate is malformed, so it barely makes contact with the rotating wheel and is easily pushed off and difficult to realign. The clock also runs fast, about 5 minutes a week.

The stove/oven had electrical issues early on, so that the hot surface light is always on, and the burner on light will stay on unless you fiddle with the knobs. When you open and close the oven when it's on, it doesn't automatically reheat, you have to turn it off and reset the heat to what you want. The Samsung logo was also just stickers that came off after about a year of regular cleaning.

And the fridge has an issue a lot of their fridges have, which is ice buildup in the fridge leading to flooding in the produce compartments. I was able to fix it with YouTube videos and a $10 part from Amazon, but not before about 3 full de-ices before we could figure out the problem.

My wife has done extraordinary well with a local auction house.

We got our side by side stainless steel Frigidaire for under $200 with ice and water in the door. In nearly new shape.

Had it a couple of years now. Still going strong. If I’m buying new it’s Home Depot as I find they have the best prices in new for kitchen stuff. Lowe’s or Best Buy come in tied for second.

We bought a stackable Samsung clothes washer and dryer set (in 2021) and they work fine (so far). We also have Samsung flat screen TV in the living room which works fine (so far). We don’t have any Samsung kitchen appliances.

I got the stacking Samsung washer dryer too, and they're alright I agree. Also had lots of other Samsung products, mostly without complaint, just had terrible luck with their kitchen appliances. And based on what I found when trying to fix the fridge, they're widespread issues.

That’s a good reason to look at multiple product reviews before making a purchase.

FB marketplace, local closeout stores. If you're not in any kind of hurry, you can usually find some great deals.

Yes that would be some very good reasons to be leery of Samsung products.

Check out an appliance store in your area.

I bought a Samsung fridge frome Lowe's, and it was a nightmare.

I'm usually Depot, Lowes, or Best Buy. Whoever has the best price, but usually the same. Though some through Best Buy have been open box deals. New, but just display.

LG double oven range that was IIRC over 2500 list, out the door for less than 1500. Had it years without issue.
LG over range micro was almost 500, gave about 225 for it. Though after a few years, kept toasting capacitors. Threw another in and sent it on to my brother.
Has been some other open box as well.

And I have been hit or miss with Samsung as well.

Lowes and Home Depot. I buy for apartments so I'm looking at the no-frills cheaper industrial grade. Believe it or not, those are far more reliable than the $3000 fancy models for the modern kitchen. Also if you can find it, used 90s and 00s appliances are clearly the best bang for you buck from a functional standpoint.

Speaking of buying "used" I got a brand new kitchenaid mixer still in the box for half the cost looking local. It was still pricey but totally worth it.
Excellent. The wife likes to bake (and I like to eat them) a lot and comes from a whole family of bakers including aunts who made 6-10 pies a day as a ministry to neighbors.
She loves kitchenaid stuff.

Me too. I google and google and google best of category reviews. Once I'm ready to buy based on that search, I tend to like Lowes the best. The physical store rarely has the specific item I want but they can almost always order it in.

Anymore you don't GO anywhere....it's all on line.

I just went through this with a rice cooker. I found one at Home Depot, when there and discovered that story does not carry it, I have to order it on line.
**** that.

I bought used and saved $$$

Walmart also has a large inventory available online.

I have nothing but good things to say about Lowe's. We ordered our last refrigerator, and from the time of the order until it was installed, it's been a great experience. Their customer service is outstanding.

Home Depot, not so much. They used to be good but in the last few years, they don't seem to be able to get the big appliances they're advertising that are on sale. Bait and switch? We've had to do this twice. The last refrigerator we bought from them, was a nightmare. I swear someone must have returned it. When I told them to pick it up because it was scratched, it took them a month to come out and get it. A carpet we ordered from them was the wrong color. We said, well okay, it's close enough, go ahead and install it but then when they did it had a flaw from one end to another. After those two experiences, never again.

For small appliances, I usually shop on Amazon or Kohls.

I like shopping on Facebook marketplace if it’s something cheap. But if I pay more for it, I’ll go somewhere with a good return policy.
