WHat you cannot do is have law based on religion or religious tenets. All laws passed must have a secular purpose, per the SCOTUS, or they can be struck down as unconstitutional. The 1st amendment says that? Where? I see that the "Government" is not allowed to restrict my expression of my religion and my speech about it as well. So, if I'm in a government legislature branch, I can express my moral beliefs as part of my conscience. I can vote for a law in good faith as does the general public in states where they have ballot initiatives like propositions in California. So, my faith is okay to use as a reason to make or take away a law. If the people elect me to be their voice for making laws, I can even restrict sodomy as was done in the past. It is you that hates the fact I get to express my religion and have the freedom to speak my mind about this as well.
