My husband gave me the collector's edition of the movie 'Snatch' - I keep it safe and sound.

My Nine Inch Nail's album "Pretty Hate Machine" isn't readily available for listening and downloading on various venues like Napster nor is it sold in stores much - so I keep my original version safe and sound and I listen to my uploaded copy instead.

My kid's art, though, is my beloved art collection - my walls are covered in it and I have boxes filled with it. I never throw any of it away.

My most prized movie would be "Hercules Returns" it took me ****ing ages to track it down to buy it, i eventually got it in a dingy basement shop in Fitzroy that i stumbled on accidentally.

edit: now that i think about it, my most prized album would be a CD entitled "Journey to the Stars" which i listened to as a kid (yes i'm young enough to have listened to CD's as a kid) it is a great story set to the first four suites of Gusatv Holsts' 'The Planets', it's what got me into classical music

Movie: Big Lebowski, just because I watch it all the time.

"Album": It's actually a cassette tape of Master of Puppets, which was the first tape I ever got when I was like 9 or 10.

Art: I don't have much art outside of my comic books, of those my original #1 Amazing Spider-man signed by Stan Lee is by far and away my most prized (and valuable) one.

I'll add a fourth category of my own, my most prized piece of sports memorabilia: Autographed picture of Walter Payton.

I don't have one since the internet has made this type of information easily accessible and there is no more need to preserve anything.

My most prized movies are "The Lord Of The Rings" series, extended versions with all the extras. I've owned them since the day each was released.

Since, as megaprogman points out, so much is available online, I don't preserve music, but I treasure and protect my Itunes library. I have it backed up on a separate hard drive at all times. But...I do have quite a collection of vinyl. I can't part with it and if I come across something vintage, I pick it up. :)

I too have kept all my kids' artworks. They are all well beyond that age and think I'm silly, but I can't get rid of any of it.

You didn't ask about books. I have an autographed first edition of "Interview With The Vampire" that I'm very attached to.

Ah! Books and Sports Memorabilia

Books - hmm - touch call.
I have so many and love them all. If I had to get rid of them all and keep only one it would probably be "Death in Grand Canyon" - it's about all the people who've died in/near the Grand Canyon. I don't treasure it purely for it's content, though - it's the only book I've ever bought while on a family vacation and it's the only book that I've read aloud to the kids and they liked.

So it has sentimental value, now. However twisted it sounds. :rofl

Sports Memorabilia - My Dad's Windy City softball, a Cincinnati Reds Champion shirt and mini baseball bat.

My Spawn #1 Autographed by Todd McFarlane

A copy of Vatican Assassins by Eric Jon Phelps simply because it took me months to even find one and when I did, I shelled out a mint for it.

A copy of Machiavelli's works that I have had since college though it would be worthless to anyone else.

LOL - I love Machiavelli!

That does jog my memory, though - I have my Dad's college-days book "Paridise Lost" by Milton. I've read it countless times. I love reading my Dad's notes. He met my Mom during college and so scribbled her name in it a lot.

Funny you should mention that...After Machiavelli comes second on my list of favorite authors...after John Milton. ;)

my wife is a fine artist (watercolor emphasis) and a craftsman (potter)
when we were still dating, almost 30 years ago, she created a beautiful drawing of a falcon, knowing my facination of raptors
it has been my most treasured physical possession since

AWE!

Now that does remind me of my husband's work.

When he was deployed he drew pictures of everyone in the family - very good. And he made me a lot of jewelry (at that time I had my jewelry business going) - his designs were amazing but I couldn't duplicate his work, it was too complicated for me.

My Spawn #1 Autographed by Todd McFarlane

Oddly, I don't have any signed Spawns, but I do have McFarlane's autograph on this issue:

It's the first Amazing Spider-man he drew.

My most prized album? WHAM! Make it Big. It's actually an album. ;) You know, one of those vinyl LP, two sided things? First album I ever bought for myself. It was 1984 and I was 12. My mom had a ****load of 45s. I'd love to get my hands on those if she still has them. A couple of them would quickly become my prized possessions if I do. LOL

All of my CDs are replaceable. Especially in the age of MP3s

Movies? Hmm... Probably either The Lost Boys VHS I have, or my full collection of X-Files seasons on DVD.

Artwork... I'm rather fond of a picture my niece drew a couple of years ago. I have it framed and hanging over my sink. Very Picasso-esque. A lady dancing doll that my father got me when he was in Thailand is an extremely prized possession. Other than that, I rather like the stone carvings purchased from a boy in Belize right outside of a Mayan ruin. (he was actually working on one of them when we first went onto the grounds and we bought a couple as we were leaving) And, a fantastically done woodwork carving picture thing that I got in India.

My very most prized possessions though were irreplaceable. I had a mojo bag that my dad had made for me filled with small trinkets and stuff given to me by friends over the years. A ring from a biker I met at a ski resort, some small rock crystals from the top of Mt Katahdin in Maine (the northernmost point of the Appalachian Trail) - given to me by a friend who climbed to its summit, some sand from a beach, some rocks from a river in Utah, just... very personal, very unique things that I collected and put into this mojo bag over the years. All given to me by friends. It hung from my rear-view mirror in my truck. When my truck was stolen, I was more upset at the prospect of losing that mojo bag than anything else. Everything else in the truck, and the truck itself, was replaceable. That bag, however, was not. I got the truck back (nearly totaled), but the mojo bag was gone. I still have no idea why anyone would have take that little bag. It was worthless to anyone but me. And to me, it was priceless. :(

there is a lot of fire in that amazing collection

thanks, it looks a lot better in proper light, rather than a camera flash

My 8 year old would be jealous. If he keeps going in his current trajectory, he might become a geologist.

I had a rock collection. Boxes of rocks collected from across the country while I was growing up. Everywhere we went (and we traveled a lot), I picked up rocks and put them in my collection.

My parents threw it away when I moved out :(

I keep a box of dirt taken from the farm I grew up on. I keep it under my bed. Josh tried to throw it out when we moved and I nearly took his head off for trying.

I know, it's a stupid attachment to a bunch of dirt but it makes me feel good to know I have about 3 pounds of home in a box under the bed when I go to sleep at night.

Album: Residents The Mole Show Picture disc.

Art: I have an original Jeff Dee illustration for one of the old D & D books he gave me.

Zap (underground comic book) number one, 35 cents issue.

My vinyl rock collection. I mean these are REAL records and I got whole Beatles collection and many others. From rock to soul. I love em!

My very fave piece of artwork is selfmade (2nd Grade), framed and hanging on my wall. It is priceless according to my mom:shock:
