What did you have for dinner?

I want to know when Belgian beer became THE beer. I mean it's good an all but it's like all anyone drinks anymore, that or local micros.

Whenever things are not valid shopping centers unless they are "Shoppe" or "Centres"

Whenever it was more important to look as if you were cultured by consuming European named products (like Olive Oil). No one in Italy uses ****ing Olive oil (well not as much as people want us to think)... however American companies will charge you hardcore for it) it's butter all the way there.

However, I have no found a better beer than Chimay.

No one here says they're the best. They are not an "elite" product, they are just common drink that normal people drink everyday. My grandpa has been drinking a chimay blue every day at 4 o'clock, for decades, and my other grandpa used to drink a respectable ammount of Rochefort with his friends.

It's the US marketters who say that they're the best (just like Irish whisky or French wine would be the best too). Same for chocolate or waffles.

But
1) Marketing
2) It's impossible to define "the best" pizza/beer/wine, because it's very subjective
3) Marketing

It's true that there is a very old tradition of brewery in Belgium, but we can also make awful beer (Carapils...) while other countries make great ones.

Oh and by the way, it's very easy to tell who is a tourist in a supermarket in Brussels: they are the ones who buy 5 or 6 different kinds of beer, cheap discount awful galettes (it's a cake that looks like a waffle, but it's a dry cookie, not a waffle!!) and cheap discount chocolate (the one that is made in France...)

?!? not the Italians I know! Even my spanish roommate does that!

Yeah. My wife's family is from Sicily and they are Olive Oil junkies. Pretty much everything is cooked in olive oil.

Including the homemade Arancini I had for dinner last night.

It was the neighbor's birthday yesterday and she went out and got incredibly drunk as 21 year old's tend to do. So today I made her apple banana pancakes and decorated them like the Bananpus pancake from the Denny's commercial. Put a cherry on the head for a hat, two candy eyes, died blue maple syrup, and little swedish fish around the plate.

I had some basil-mint gelatin with nectarines and plums.

I love swedish fish!

Lame, I haven't *cooked* in a while. Today I've eaten a can of lima beans, heated in a pot with cheese...

lol

I don't really do the whole decorating the plate thing but this was kind of fun and it substituted having to make her a real cake, which I cannot do. Baking is something I just can't handle.

Not to mention that bananapus is funny as hell...
