Agreed- there aren't many American composers who write/wrote music (classical or orchestral type) I would spend money for, but Gershwin is an exception.

I agree, I would add to the list too, in my opinion, Cole Porter and some of the compositions of Jerome Kern! I also like Rogers and Hart very much. :)
