We don't need queers

Ayanna Pressley says:

If you're a black voice and you don't agree with my black voice, don't come.
If you're a Muslim voice and you don't agree with my Muslim voice, don't come.
If you're a queer voice and you don't agree with my queer voice, don't come.

Imagine Trump saying at a rally ...

If you're a white voice and you don't agree with my white voice, don't come.
If you're a Christian and you don't agree with my Christian voice, don't come.
If you're a straight voice and you don't agree with my straight voice, don't come.

:lamo
Take off your orange colored Trump glasses for just a minute, and reread what Pressley said.

She did not say any others should agree with her. She only said that she wants people to run who will speak/stand up for the minority group they are part of. That’s it. Simple.

There's even more rightwing denial and projection is this thread than usual. It reeks of talibornagain hypocrisy.

"We don't need queers that don't want to be a queer voice," said black racist democrat Ayanna Pressley, to which Trump responded that if disgruntled Americans do not like America then let them go somewhere else.

Pressley essentially said that if you are a queer and you cannot support democrat narratives about queers then keep you mouth shut, we don't need you saying anything. She suggested that if you are brown or black and cannot support the democrat narratives related to browns and blacks then keep your mouth shut, we don't need you talking. Black racist democrats are extremely bigoted, narrow minded, racist leftists, and they don't mind telling people they want all other viewpoints silenced.

Rep. Ayanna Pressley: "We Don't Need Any More Brown Faces That Don't Want To Be A Brown Voice" | Video | RealClearPolitics

"Essentially said..." = "this is the worst possible representation of her words I can think of..."

Good job misrepresenting Pressley’s point, attempting to create an issue where there is none. Pressley was expressing her opinion, referring to folks who are considering running for office standing up for and actively supporting causes that can positively impact others who are also black or queer, etc.. Politicians routinely express their opinions on what they want to see in potential candidates for office.

A nothing burger.
She was telling blacks and queers that if they cannot support and promote the leftist racist commie agenda then they should shut the hell up.

There is a war in the Democratic Party between the centrist and progressive wings. The centrist wings are much more big-business friendly, accepting of plutocracy just at a slower pace than Republicans. Bernie refuses big money for his campaigns - he is at odds with the big problems with plutocracy more than traditional Democrats, and his policies are different in that way.

Again, what policy does Bernie support that the majority of the Democratic candidates do not also support?

Yes, I think he does. I don't agree with his ideals, but I think he's got the best intentions.

But then Bernie isn't really a democrat, and with Proportional Representation he'd have more of a chance.

If he isn't a Democrat, can you name 1 policy he supports that the majority of the other candidates don't also support? If anything the outsider on the stage appears to be Biden not Bernie.

I don't have a twitter account. I do watch the news, though.

I posted a link to her Twitter page. You don't need your own account. You can look through her page and tell me which 2 Tweets say what you claim she said.

I know you didn't lie, did you?

This is the Trumpian response to ANY issue. If it's racial issues, call the opposition "the real racists", if it's Trump propaganda, call everything else "fake news", if it's foreign policy, call the opposition America haters, if it's the economy, call the other guy a Communist.

And so on and so on.
When will the Left finally get around to focusing on offering ideas and solutions and ignoring the reality show?
Stop feeding the Trump trolls.

As much as many lefties despise righties, they have the absolute most contempt for any minority or woman that doesn’t go along with their approved politics or narrative. This very specific lack of tolerance really is something that is unique to the left.

OK, and Republicans have absolute contempt for RINOs or other moderates who aren't anti-abortion, or pro gun, or support lower taxes. They were purged from the party.

And the message in context is directed at liberals running for office, and if anyone wants to see it they can go here, starting about 1:30 (about 11 minutes left), was (and some quotes that I tried to pull out):

Our destinies and our freedoms are tied..
Now is not the time to be territorial about oppression or trauma...
We need to continue to resist and be mobilized together, and don't allow them to divide us..
I don't want to bring a chair to an old (status quo) table...
This is the time to shake the table...
All of you who have aspirations of running for office, if you are going to come to this table...for whatever lived experience you represent...if you are not prepared to come to that table and represent that voice, don't come...this is work and we [the women on that panel] do it every day.
And if you're worried about being marginalized and stereotyped, please don't even show up...

So to a roomful of liberal activists and potential office holders, the message is clear enough. Don't be content to be in the room, sitting at the table, but shake the table, do what you were sent there to do, which is represent the people who elected you. It's a completely expected motivational message in that setting. Don't be content with the status quo. Your voters send you to Congress to get stuff DONE on their behalf and work hard, every day, to get that done, as opposed to quietly sit in the corner and be thankful that you're in the room.

The alternative message is, "Hey, you're just one person and can't get anything ACTUALLY done. You need to spend a decade or two working your way up in committee hierarchy, pander to your donors, and at some point you'll have some power to do some things, and in the meantime, keep your head down, don't rock the boat, defer to the old guard, and consider yourself lucky just to be present while others make all the decisions! Now go our there and run for office! IN A COUPLE DECADES YOU CAN DO SOME GOOD!!"

It's not a message of exclusion, because she's preaching to a choir of activists who ALL share her priorities, people who made an effort to hear from these women, but of courage, hard work, refusal to accept the status quo.

In my opinion the posts you’re making in this thread sure come off as bending over backwards to excuse the gutter identity politics that is the norm for this congresswoman. I’m curious about how you feel with the statements IIhan Omar has made since being elected, do you also excuse the clear anti-Semitism, bigotry and hate?

Staying with the gutter identity politics, I sure hope you’re not naive to the fact that the statements made by Pressly, Omar, Cortez and Tlaid aren’t practiced and orchestrated. We got a glimpse of the bigotry with ORC when see accused Pelosi or racism. This tactic has lost It’s sting with overuse but I’m sure this crew will play the bigoted hate and divisive course as long as possible.

She was telling blacks and queers that if they cannot support and promote the leftist racist commie agenda then they should shut the hell up.

She was speaking to an audience of liberals, or in your telling, those who by being there at that conference and in that audience, "support and promote the leftist racist commie agenda" and she was telling them if they're not going to be brave, do the hard work, if they're going to be content to sit quietly in a corner and defer to the big money crowd, go along with the status quo, stay home.

Would you be surprised if at a gun rights, 2A, NRA conference, and the speaker said to those who were all committed to the gun lobby agenda, "If you're not willing to support our gun rights agenda, don't come. We don't need anymore pro-gun faces who don't want to be a gun rights voice!"

No, that's exactly what you'd expect activists to tell other activists who share the same views on gun rights. Come and fight for gun rights, or don't come! What should a gun rights activist tell an audience of OTHER self-selected gun rights activists if not that?

She said that the ones who don't think her way should shut up, and if you agree with her, as you said you did, you think so, too.

Why are you pretending the audience doesn't matter? She was at a liberal conference of left wing activists and wannabe office holders. They are self selected and are at that conference, and in that specific panel, to hear those women, and presumably it's because they agree with their agenda and want to hear more from them, be inspired by them.

And she's telling an audience that the speakers correctly and rationally assume agree with the agenda of those 5 women on stage to not be content to be AT the table, but to shake the table, get things done, represent whatever voice it is that elected them, not the special interests. It's a message of hard work, and refusal to accept as a win your ability to be in the room while other people make decisions, and therefore of the status quo.

All she's trying to do is inspire people who she knows AGREE WITH HER to try to change the status quo, or in her terms, don't just sit at the table, shake it up, redefine the table itself. It's simply not an exclusionary message in that context. And that audience in that context applauded her message and that of all the other women, because by being there they self-selected as people who want to hear that message.

The only contortionists in this thread are those who are asserting words that were not spoken and intent that was not implied.

As for the Congresswomen; Omar has said several bigoted and plain stupid things that I find repugnant. AOC is a naive socialist (nuff said). I don’t know much about Tlaib or Pressley, but regarding what Pressley said that started this thread; no, I have no problem with it at all.

Wow, that's a dumb comment.

Quote someone grossly representing what she said, then make dumb conclusion based on that laughable misrepresentation of her comment! WIN!

Several people here have been playing the same stupid game.

Yep.

The democrats have no actual respect for any non-whites. Minorities are simply a playing piece for their politics. If you refuse to play their game, their bigotry starts to show.

Right, and gun banners are welcome at an NRA convention. Last time they had one, I'm pretty sure they had all kinds of gun banners give talks on the virtues of gun control, and were welcomed with open arms by the NRA crowd! Right? That did happen I'm assuming....

So at Netroots Nation, how DARE liberal activists at a conference of liberal activists speak to liberal activist priorities!!! FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS!!!!

Ok, so you tell us what you read into that clear and unambiguous statement. What is a "brah"?

Brah was a way of saying bro, but now it's only used ironically.

As for that quote, it reads an awful lot to me like, if you're brown, you'd better represent brown. If you're gay, you'd better represent gay. Otherwise, don't apply.
